What do we do at WR?

We haven't been this deep with young wide receivers in a while. Do we cut Thompkins? I don't see us sneaking any of the young guys (Peake, Marshall or Anderson) onto the practice squad.

Totally agree about the young guns, try to pass any of them thru waivers for the PS and you will watch them ball for somebody else's team.

That said, I absolutely cut Thompkins if its me. Too me Thompkins is your classic HTFG (Hold the Fort Guy), good enough to play in the NFL until you can upgrade your talent at WR, but once you do, its time to say goodbye.

Its also important to note that Thompkins is not a kid, he's a 28 year old journeyman, so there's no upside and he is not the future, what you see is what you get.

There's NO WAY I'm losing any of those three so I can hang on to Thompkins. IMO that would be a colossal mistake.

Thompkins can't catch!!
If he could we would have stole that Buffalo game at the end and made the playoffs in dramatic fashion.

I still haven't forgiven him for NOT making that play.

It wasn't an easy play, but IMO its a play you have to make. He had a chance to put his team in the playoffs.

I had given up on that game when he dropped that ball. It made the loss worse because he could have made the catch even though the safety made a good play.

Anderson looked very good last night against fellow 3's, but he has a smoothness about him that made it look easy.

Jets would be smart after our starting three to keep those three rookies, unfortunately Ross who has looked good will be the only cut that will hurt...

Anderson played well last night, and with the live reps he would receive occasionally behind BMarsh he will develop nicely...

Peake has shown up and proves he was a steal of a pick in the 7th, like Anderson he would do well occasionally getting reps behind Decker...

Jalin Marshall has the most upside of the three, and could develop into a nasty option in the slot along being a dominate return guy...

as for Devin Smith he will remain on the PUP at the start of the season but when it is time for his return unless there is an season injury he could be shelved for the season... two years and nothing from him, has limited to no time in either off seasons he has been here for so the development at this point is barely nothing... he needs to have a full off season without injury to progress his skill set, running fast is not a skill just an advantage, and being that his current injury he is healing from is a leg injury doesn't bode well for his overall skill set...

if we can muster up an additional roster spot by either not keeping the full back, or considering Enunwa a tight end then we should keep Ross, he can give us depth in the slot along with another return guy...

after these five, there is no need for anyone else... maybe Chandler Worthy to the psquad...

I don't know. Jalin Marshall drops the ball way too much. Not all of them were his fault, you have to give the defense credit, but he does need to get better hands.

For me that's really the sticking point and big decision for the CS. Charone Peake and Robbie Anderson are making the team, as they should. The one that is susceptible to possibly being cut that we saw play last night IMO is Jalin Marshall. But even then that's a hard cut to make because Marshall seems to add another dimension on special teams.

If I am making the decision, as hard a cut as it would be to make, I would cut Kenbrell Thompkins and take the chance on the young UDFA that needs a little work on securing the football but gives you versatility.

What do we do, .... count our blessings and help these three develop....
Keep them all on the 53! Better than keeping 4 QB's

For whatever reason Jalin seems to make the difficult catches but misses some of the easier ones. They should check his eyes.

I hope they keep the 3 rookies but im not so sure they are thst brave. Who has the best chance of sticking on the practice squad? Perhaps that player sticks until devin smith is ready to go.

Agreed. Jalin's return skills are very encouraging. Love his breakaway speed. But I've noticed that he's dropped a few very catchable balls. The Jets dropped way too may balls last night, including both Marshall's, Peake, and Amaro. That stuff has to change.

I'd personally keep Jalin as a returner/depth WR and Robby Anderson based on last night. Enunwa is a lock. I'd probably risk going Peake over Devin Smith.

I like all three but keeping them all on the roster at the expense of Tompkins is very risky. I don't think the brain trust would be willing to have three unproved rookies backing up non-youngsters like Marshall and Decker. Got to have some experience to step in if needed.

i get what you're saying..

but you might as well just cut one of the kids & be done with it, because none of them would get pass waivers..

my solution/compromise (if the jets have the same concern as you) would be carry 7 WRs & 3 QBs..

if the kids show they can, play you cut tompkins during the the season & perhaps activate devin smith.. or put & leave him on IR all season..

I think the Jets have to keep all three, it has been a long time since the Jets had a fleet of young WRs this fleet-of-foot, and they all look really promising. I don't think any of the three would make it through to the practice squad. Marshall has made a real impact on special teams, including the coverage squads. I also loved the play where he caught the ball a few yards shy of the first down but kept fighting and broke away to get the first down, that really showed something about his determination and toughness. If the offensive line comes together, this offense could be really, really potent.

Thompkins sucks or at the very best he is average!! He drops passes as well and is much older. Go with the youth and let them get better. Peake/Marshall/Anderson probably won't make much of an impact anyway, but they need to be on the team.
