What does a successful season look like to you?

Jets never win the off-season.
Historically they overpay for under performing Names. Big splash to sell tickets and the less knowledgeable fans buy in completely, unaware of the train wreck that's guaranteed to follow. Remember Leveon Bell and the post that followed, "he instantly upgrades the entire offense " " he doesn't need a good o line " " he's a threat to score every time he touches the ball" all posted here.
Rodgers. "He instantly makes us a Super Bowl contender" " we now have the best QB in the Division " he was the worst...
"He probably retires after this season, going out a Super Bowl winner. He won't stick around after" "we're now a top 3 offense in the league"
Woody is the biggest problem. The fan base is the second biggest problem.
This team begins a rebuild every 3 years and Woody short circuits it every time with the type of moves listed above.
It's too early to really grade Mougey and to an extent Glenn.
Last year was all about cleaning the mess left behind by the last regime, clearing $150 million in cap and getting rid of those low character players with high price tags.
It's year two. I love the off season moves. Great FA signings that most fans are mocking. Davis is up in age but has not slowed, coming off his best season. Provides veteran leadership and quality play, same with Fitzpatrick and even Tim Patrick who may not play much but his veteran presence will help the young receivers and his role could really expand if/when there's a WR injury. The D line is much improved, Dunbar should really make an impact.
I don't think W-L record is going to be the determining factor in the seasons success. I'll take 5 wins and 12 close losses over 7 wins and 8-10 blowout losses.
Is the team competitive every week? Do they show up prepared to play every game? Do they keep playing hard every play in the final games? That's the true measure of this teams improvement and success.
Hopefully that's what happens, if not it's going to be the typical fire everyone demands, banners and billboards. New first time FO and coach. 2nd and 3rd year players learning their 2nd or third schemes. Players who don't fit the scheme and Woody blowing the Cap space on names not talent once again. The roster is vastly improved on paper and set up to add premium talent next off season via the draft and free agency.
Fans should be hoping for success this season, setting up next season and beyond. Unfortunately, reading the post here and on other sites, many seem to be hoping for failure.

It seems like each year, "we win the off-season" only to be gut punched by another year of disappointment on the field. Of course, the ultimate success is to put another Lombardi in the trophy case, but if that's not going to happen, I'd like to hear what a successful season would look like to you. I'd be happy with:

1.) a winning record.
2.) a winning record in the AFC EAST
3.) A TOP 10 offense and top 15 defense.
4.) Making the tournament
5.) very least, being fun to watch as the team nobody wants to face if they have bigger aspirations at their fingertips.
#5 is subjective, so if we achieved 2 of the remaining 4, I'd call it a good year.
Love to get involved with a topic like this. I’m agreeing with everything you’re saying but I’m not quite sure how realistic are we being here? We are talking about a Jets team spear headed by Geno Smith. A QB that has proven once or twice that he can be a reliable piece to a team. However, he’s been in the league for damn near 15 years now and he’s only proven that once or twice, with the Seahawks. Correct me if I’m wrong on that, please!

So as much as what you’re saying sounds great, I don’t think it’s likely. At most, I’d say I can agree and see #5. A Jets team that if they can stay fairly healthy, will give teams nightmares on the field and a hell of a fight. I think that’s the best we can hope for from your list, if I’m being honest! Here’s my list and hopes, to say the least:

1. The Jets are a team that fights and stands for something every game. Win or lose, they give the fans and organization something to be proud of each game and at the end of this year.

2. The Jets will most likely have a losing record, I’d say 6-11 or 7-10 at best but they show that they will be a team to be reckoned with the next year.

(1 and 2 will obviously show that Aaron Glenn is the right HC to lead this team to championship glory) I’m hoping anyway!

3. The Oline and Dline shows they are a powerhouse unit in the making.

4. The playmakers show they are ready and the players that can make it happen with the right QB.

5. Lastly and most importantly, Cade Klubnik gets the start at some point, I’d say around mid-season or three-quarters in at worst and he proves the job is now his and he can be our franchise QB. He shows us all that there is no need to draft any other QB for the next 15-20 years.

Imagine the Jets having those three first round draft picks next year and not needing the draft a QB or even worse, trade up for one. They can go BPA or after specific needs.

If #5 is true, then the curse is broken. That would by great beyond our imaginations

Geno is younger than Stafford and considerably younger than Rodgers, who some here are still pining for. If Reich can make it work he could be the QB for several years, perhaps including a SB run; remember Seattle won a SB with Sam 'Seeing Ghosts' Darnold. It would be a great story if our fourth round QB immediately developed into the second coming of Joe Montana, but we should remember that they likely wanted Allar and had to move quickly for Klubnik after the run on QBs in the third round.

Frank is the key. Wouldn't it be fascinating to see route concepts that have our talented group running in swaths of open fields? Geno has enough talent to hit them for big plays. We're so used to seeing our QBs under fire and WR's surrounded by defenders, we've forgotten what an offense looks like wearing green & white.

I was super excited for Seeing Ghosts Sammy to win the SB. 1st Jet drafted QB since Namath to play in a SB. Zach should have been a multitude of picks to surround Sammy with a team. Maybe he could have worn green and white in the game if we did the right thing with Zach's #2 overall.

I wouldn't call the O spear-headed by Geno. I'd say that falls into Breece's lap and on the OLine's shoulders. Geno needs to pick up a few first downs per game. Even in the Raider dumpster fire, he managed to have a decent season.

I would say at least doubling the win total. I have them at 7 or 8 wins, though I would be OK with 6 if they showed development. More than win total, though, the culture change needs to start to come to fruition. The roster needs to be set up to allow for a young QB to succeed. That means the diversity of weapons need to step up and the OL needs to continue to develop. That is what will allow for long-term success.
At this point, I think I agree. Being fun to watch and seeing a team fighting to win would be successful to me. 7 to 8 wins might happen accidentally as they stumbled into a few toss-up wins.
