What is the chance Demario Davis makes the active 53?

None of Davis' $3.7 million salary is guaranteed, meaning the Jets can cut him before the season with no cap hit whatsoever. If Davis makes the team, it won't be at $3.7 million. That's too much money for a backup. More than likely the Jets really want to keep him around, they'd ask him to take a pay cut.

Davis could be a solid situational presence in case something happens to Harris, who at 33 isn't getting any younger. He also will provide competition for Lee, who still hasn't reached his potential. Maybe Bowles will use them in a three-linebacker rotation to keep everybody fresh. If the Jets are impressed by Davis, 28, maybe they re-sign him to replace Harris in 2018.

The bottom line is this could go in a number of different directions. It's called flexibility, and that's a good thing. There's also a comfort level because this coaching staff knows the player's strengths and weaknesses. They also know he's a solid guy in the locker room.

At the end of the day saying moving Pryor to open up cap space was the goal, then taking back someone who has clearly a higher cap number doesn't bode well for his chances to make the active roster well at his current cap number that is.

Looking at the numbers inside, the competition if there is truly one is bleak at best. The team just re-signed Julian Stanford who is more than likely Darron Lee's backup. Bringing back Bruce Carter who last year was David Harris' backup, has me scratching my head in this deal to acquire Demario. Fully expect Connor Harris to push for a roster spot but inevitably end up on the practice squad. So do we really have room for Demario? Or was this just an attempt to rid Pryor while taking nothing in return (non-guaranteed contract)?

Hi gmf! I actually thought Davis was getting better playing, didnt you? He looked like he had bulked up & was finally understanding his position & was playing better with added speed. I rather have Davis than Pryor who I thought had bust written all over him. Its hard to Draft a Safety in top 15 for me. How many game changing Safeties has that kind of impact in NFL? Not many. Lets hope Jets top Pick is that game changer & can keep his weight off not getting pudgy & slow. Every time Jets Draft oddly I can only hope their crazy high risk pick works out. Didnt work with Pryor. Maybe Davis (Jets pick from a couple years ago) will be that explosive sleeper pick & super star? 2nd Gastineau on outside? I can only hope since Coples was a Bust

I really like the trade. If nothing else it's addition by subtraction. Just getting Pryor off the team is a net plus. I like Davis and think he can be serviceable and I don't think his $3.5mm is too much to take on. If he improves even slightly, he can be Harris's replacement in 2018 if nothing better comes along. Unless Mac plans on a big pickup between now and the start of the season, they have enough cap space.

He's always been a tackling machine so I find it hard to think he would not make the roster? Although, his poor coverage skills on the wheel route will likely be front and center this season. That's the reason why they let him go in the first place.

It really doesn't make much sense to me? The GM and HC CHOSE to let DD go because he was poor in coverage. Now after one season away, they suddenly want him back? I tend to think there's a lot of incompetence in the CS, if they changed their minds so soon after making a final decision on Davis? There had to be other players available that would at least help the Jets at the LB spot? Like I said, DD is a good player. He just sucks in Toilet's schemes... Which seems to be rather common given how bad Toilet and Rogers have been with this defense.......

Maybe his role will be completely different, more along the lines of David Harris' responsibilities instead of the ILB who is primarily the coverage guy.

I believe he makes 53 especially if Lee is in trouble for going after a woman. Look like the Jets got lucky with DD trade. He can step right in and know the defense if Lee is suspended.

that maybe but he really did blow at covering wheel routes... remember Philly game couple years ago. Anyway, he will make the team and probably replace harris who is slower than me for crap sake...
