Prior to this season every one and I mean everyone outside the locker room from fans (most of you here), media had this team winning maybe two games to zero... I am not saying there wasn't optimistic feelings that there could be some what a competitive nature set in with the new coaches... But after this team was stripped from certain player(s), the pessimistic Jets fans emerged...

Yet this team had a strong draft, that almost everyone mocked taking two safeties back to back... Yes we took two receivers after that, got a sleeper running back, tight end with upside, a project edge rusher and two developmental corners... So basically this team was written off before the season start... Injuries are always problematic in a rebuilding roster, yes rebuilding but competitive... We lost some say a highly motored individual in Donahue who looked good in preseason... He could of the missing piece on defense that could of helped this season...

Offensively two receivers, and a running back whom are rookies aren't the only rookie on the offense, John Morton the offensive coordinator is also a rookie so there will be growing pains... The plan was to utilize a veteran quarterback to continue the development of our young receiving corps., in Robby Anderson, Charone Peake, Jalin Marshall from last season... Jalin Marshall hasn't returned to the active roster after his suspension and Charone Peake out for the season with an ankle injury makes his future involvement lower than likely... So Robby Anderson having a stellar sophomore campaign... After Anderson, veteran Jermaine Kearse is clearly the number two, neither rookie has been a part of the offense in full this year and probably won't be until next year...

This team in a whole was a project this year with a youth movement to develop the potential, while getting rid of some self centered veteran players that were on the roster last year... They wanted competitiveness and they got that... But in the end this team is still young, without the killer instinct... That instinct will come as they continue to grow this roster...

My complaint is everyone sold out on this team before the season but now are pissed that this team was competitive but unable to finish... My understanding and my appreciation is the core group of young talent entering this season showing the future is bright... Robby Anderson, Darron Lee took the next step... A few rookies showed the potential is there in Jamal Adams, Marcus Maye, Elijah McGuire... And acquiring players like Austin Seferian Jenkins, Jermaine Kearse, Eric Tomlinson, David Baas, reacquiring Demario Davis shows this team can and will improve...

The return next year of Quincy Enunwa, Dylan Donahue, and maybe Lorenzo Mauldin could improve some aspects of this roster... Do we have a quarterback on our roster, many say no and probably so but that will be looked at after this year... Bryce Petty has promise, Hackenberg shows some ability but this is not a concern at the moment... The only reason is for them to have any success is to have an offense that will help them succeed and prior to this season we had potential but no security to surround either of those young signal callers... But now, with the emergence of RA, ASJ, and our triple head at RB shows that any QB under center could succeed... Add in Q on offense the skill position will be better than good moving forward... The only problem is if this offensive line can play better than they are, as of today... Expect one or two moves this upcoming off season on the offensive line but not what most hope for... They are really high Jonathan Harrison moving forward especially they expect Wesley Johnson to be signed away in free agency... They will like delve into free agency to see if they can sign a left tackle moving Beachum to right side... Most will be upset saying why don't we draft, but they will like Shell a late day three developmental prospect is what they will do yet again unless they get someone falling into their lap which is highly unlikely but one never knows...

For those hoping for a QB don't be surprised if we don't take one with our first round selection... We could be inline to draft someone like Saquon Barkley if he decides to move on to this stage... A duo of Barkley and McGuire could be special, this would allow them to take a shot with Hackenberg or Petty at the helm... Corner is a concern, after this season do not see us re-signing Claiborne and expect to move on from Buster Skrine either release or trade... With our new blood at safety they will look to complete the secondary with Roberts and Burris in the mix... If and big if they do not retain Demario Davis they will look to draft his replacement... It will definitely be an interesting off season but the roster turnover was a complete success... With that, I fully expect Todd Bowles and this coaching staff back next year to continue the development of this roster because they have exceeded expectations of what was to be a win-less season...

All I can say is that our QB throws the best bomb in 30 years for the Jets but he is a loser. That being said he may be the best thing for this team now....but no ring on his finger. The NFL can change so much in one year...Jets are on the way up. I knew we were better when we picked up Kearse. This has been a good year so far in my book

Why do you think we won't resign some of the guys you say? Demario, Claiborne? They have been great and it would be nice to bring some of them back for continuity on defense. If we go into next season with the only signed CBs being Burris and Roberts, I will kick Maccagnan's ass. (Not counting the developmental rookies).

I can't disagree with anything you said other than what I posted above. If we end up with Barkley, i would be ecstatic. Still need a QB but no young QB can be successful unless we have the tools around them. Building a solid line and getting a running game should be top priority for this offseason.

Demario took a paycut to stay with the team meaning this team may not value him as an intricate part of the future and may low bid to walk... As for Claiborne he has been good but his injury status is hard to give him a competitive contract knowing he is one step away from being put on injured reserve, even tho he stated this team is perfect for his skill set another team will out bid the Jets he will walk... Just the nature of the beast...

Understand it isn't just Juston Burris and Darryl Roberts on the roster... Two rookies this year one on the Non Football Injury List in Jeremy Clark, and ex-WR turned Corner Derrick Jones... They both have the length not to mention Xavier Coleman who showed immense potential will return from injured reserve... The potential and development of Rashard Robinson could also push those other two out the door (Claiborne, Skrine)...

We've seen first hand what it's like to go into the season and annoying starters based off potential or flashes. I'm talking about the year Milliner came in as a number 1 cb. I pray the Jets get some proven guys out there and let the rookies battle it out. Idc for Clairborne. I just want someone that can play at his level.

I also forgot to mention that we are in dire need of a pass rusher. Anyone available in free agency or the draft we can target?

There is two corners right now that could enter and be competitive from the get go is in another LSU Tiger Donte Jackson or Kevin Tolliver II, right now both are ranked as a 4th round prospects... Jackson would be that corner to play the nickel in our defense but Tolliver II has the height and length that TB loves, just saying...

As for edge rusher I think Dylan Donahue for the short term future is that guy... Not what everyone expects what an edge rusher should be but the piece that will sew up this front seven... Not saying we won't draft someone there are a couple of early round options while some sleepers in day three could be gotten this year...

Arden Key from oddly enough LSU is arguably the top edge rusher in this draft... Lorenzo Carter from Georgia (Round 2)... Like I said if we go after Demario Davis replacement this cat out of Georgia as well should be our top option in Roquon Smith a hybrid option to play both inside or outside linebacker...

As for free agents, there a few options that we could take a flyer on like Ezekiel Ansah, Malcolm Butler, Trumaine Johnson, Tahir Whitehead, Jeremiah Attaochu, Aaron Lynch, Kyle Fuller, DeMarcus Lawrence, Marcus Smith just a few options at both DE/OLB, and CB...

well said.
I can't believe the negativity from the fan base this season. For a young inexperienced roster , this team has played hard and has been competitive. The coaching staff has done a great job with the talent they have.
I think some fans were hoping for a winless season. McCown was the right choice this season. The young guys have been developing and even fringe Players like ASJ have shown growth.
I agree Clairborne is going to likely get overpaid but we should try to extend some players such as ASJ , Damario Davis , Ealy . We have the money and they are quality, you players.
A corner I think would be a great fit for this D is McFadden from FSU. His stock is down but he has not been thrown at nearly as much as last year.
I agree with you about the QB situation too. I don't know that the FO has given up on Hack and Petty and I can't see Mac giving up multiple picks to move up unless he is absolutely sold on one of the QBs in the draft. They all have warts, and questions. None are Luck , Winston, Mariota or even Wentz type prospects. Too many fans are still buying last year's pre draft hype of this class and Darnold especially..
I could see Mac make a push for a guy like Cousins should he become a FA though.
This team is looking good for year one of the rebuild, there are some very nice pices in place for the future. It's going to take a couple more seasons but so far, so good.

And Lee Grosscup threw two 70+ yd TD passes in one game (his first?) for the NY Titans. Just sayin', but thanks for the flashback.

I think fans want to see if Petty or Hack can play. The rest of the team's progression has be nice to see. I knew OL was a train wreck and there has to be a complete overhaul if they are going to be successful. They have no shot at the playoffs because unfortunately the games are 4 quarters long. At this point I either want to see Petty or I want McCown to play 3 quarters and then bench his sorry ass for the 4th. There isn't anyone on this roster that would do worse than McCown when it matters. The best part about this season is I can say hey the Jets don't suck. However they are just mediocre and they have been that way every season except for 5 or 6 in the last 50 years. And please don't break the bank for Cousins.

I can't remember, gmf1369, if it was on this forum or the Jets forum that dumped us that I said that I was all for this rebuild, including sending those vets packing who weren't carrying their own weight. The only one I felt bad about was Nick Mangold but I understood why he was let go. I knew there would be growing pains and tried to convey that to everyone. All I asked for was to see consistent improvement and in my mind I believe that we are seeing that. I never thought tanking to get a high draft pick made much sense. If the young players aren't giving their best effort to win then they aren't going to learn how to win. I'll admit that getting a franchise QB with our first pick would be great but my first priority would be a team that gives full effort for 4 quarters and really is capable of winning. This team with a few adjustments is now that team or at least will be when they get really hungry. As much as it hurts some of us to admit it McCown had a lot to do with the development we have seen so far. Having a vet under center, even though he has faults, has allowed this young team to grow and that is why the rumor mill says he might get resigned. I hope that either Hack or Petty is our guy. I would like to find out as much as everyone else does but truth be told neither of them has the experience to lead this bunch of guys through their growing period. I'm expecting the Jets to use their early draft picks to shore up the "O" line and add some strength to the defensive backfield and then address the QB position. Just a guess on my part but then at this early stage of the game we are all guessing. We got more in this one season than I expected in 2 or 3. Your post was right on.

here is one thing that keeps escaping the media and so called experts is Aaron Rodgers sat a few year before taking over the reigns in Green Bay... Tho Petty is 26 he is just entering his prime and if healthy could play for a decade making him a viable candidate to be the team's franchise QB for the next decade... But I expect it is all about Hackenberg as long as he takes the next step regardless if he is ready they have Petty as a bridge for one more season, next year... So basically Hackenberg has the rest of this season and next season to get his shit together, then the following year is his year to put it all together, yes in his contract year but if he pans out then we have a 24 year old then taking the reigns for at least 10 years... this also opens the door not to draft a QB this upcoming draft, even tho so many are lobbying to do so...

do we draft someone, sure but unlike the all seeing media that has gotten everything wrong every turn they type we really DO NOT know if this front office and coaching staff has really given up on either or both of these two... have to say tho, the way Petty looked in preseason and his chemistry he built with Robby Anderson, Quincy Enunwa, Bilal Powell, Charone Peake, Jalin Marshall and a few others... Of those both Q. and RA are locks to be on the roster next year... Yes I strongly believe the Jets could deal BP, expect them to release Forte and one of these two will not retain on the Psquad {Peake, Marshall}...

look at it like this, during the Panthers game the commentator talked about being at Jets practice and was surprised how vocal and in your face loud Todd Bowles is with his players, but everyone outside the facility sees a mild manor laid back coach that says little and is requite to reveal any information... it is night and day from our previous coaching staff in Rex, and fans are still hung over from his bravado and openness to the media and fans... in a way we got a similar version of Bill Belli, and for me it is a breathe of fresh air... and the main reason he should be brought back is the players RESPECT him and play hard for him...

If the above statement is true then Bowles should be back. And other then not building an oline yet (which is huge) I can't count out Mac yet either...

For me, what I hoped to get from this season was one of these top QB's while at the same time seeing a young team that plays hard and won't quit. looks like we might miss out on my first wish but I'll take the second as long as someone realizes we need an oline next season for whoever plays QB

If the front office and coaching staff manage to get this team to the level they are working towards, and it looks to me as they are making good headway, it may turn out that in a way you get both of your wishes. If our "O" line gets to the point where they can protect our QB, give him time to operate, and put forth a running game that will take some of the pressure off him, we may have that QB on our roster already. Petty didn't look that bad when he had help from his "O" line and with experience might just turn out to be good. As far as Hackenberg goes he still has, as gmf1369 pointed out, time to get his act together while we build a quality offense and defense. We just need to remind ourselves that when this rebuild started we knew it was going to take more than 1 season to get it done. We don't really know what the coaches think of these two QBs. We only hear what the reporters and outsider experts tell us. The teams good play so far this season, a surprise to most of us, has opened our eyes to what could be and has also made us a bit eager. I personally think that the coaching staff and front office are getting results and therefore have my support so far. It's difficult to remain patient because we have already been patient for a long, long time, but I believe that I see a light at the end of the tunnel so I'm going to trust in the FO and Coaches for awhile longer.

I would believe in this rebuild if Mac showed some kind of direction or consistency in his tenure. You say that this is year one of the rebuild but we should be in our third year. Mac blew it by not sticking to a rebuild plan the first two years. I think Mac is not a worthy GM.

no when he came here this team had talent and plenty of bloated contracts, maybe should of went into rebuild mode after the first year but remember we went 10-6, so trying to continue that success they restocked for the second year after that was a total failure they scrapped trying to win and now and start what was needed for a long time a total rebuild from ground up and being this the first year of that rebuild they have done a better than expected job...

Mac has done everything correctly to this point, and in his short tenure has done more positive things than Tannebaum did in his entire stay here...

I have to agree with you on Mac dropping the ball in getting this rebuild started, sort of. It really should have started way back when he came on board. I can't say why he dragged his feet a little in that respect. Maybe his hands were tied by that great and football knowledge minded guy, what's his name,................oh I remember, Woody Johnson. I don't think we can fairly lay it all on Mac because the ownership attitude was different at the time that he took the reins so it will take time to unravel the mindset that Woody instilled in the front office. I can't really say for sure, but at least it finally has started and for the most part, and I think you and I and most of the guys on here agree, it seems to be headed in the right direction and all we as fans have the ability to do is hope and pray that the forward progress continues and doesn't take forever. After all, some of us are old farts and don't have forever even though we like like to think we do.
