With a projected salary cap space of $48 Million, Joe Douglas and the Jets are in good situation to add some solid free agents while projecting the 9 draft selections could cost roughly $20 Million making the free agent purse less attractive during free agency to sign and improve the roster with those key free agents.

General manager Joe Douglas has done a good job cleaning up the cap mess that former GM Mike Maccagnan left the Jets in. Gone are awful contracts for the likes of Trumaine Johnson and Le'Veon Bell. For the most part, Douglas has played it safe on the free-agent market. As a result, the Jets still have their fair share of financial flexibility entering the offseason.

These are the likely candidates to become cap casualties this off season:

1. Connor McGovern
He's a good player, but with a $10.33 million cap hit, the Jets could look to create some additional cap space. McGovern's contract has just $1.33 million in dead cap meaning the Jets could save $9 million by releasing him. There is some speculation that the Jets may have received a trade offer for CM, but in the end $9 million is still $9 million off the cap.

2. Ryan Griffin
Griffin is set to hold a cap hit of $3.28 million in 2021, but with $0 in guaranteed money remaining on his deal, the Jets should have no trouble cutting ties.

3. Greg Van Roten
Another player with $0 in guaranteed money who seems destined to be released in the offseason is veteran offensive guard Greg Van Roten. Signed as a free agent prior to the 2020 season, Van Roten started 13 games in his first season and returned as the starting right guard in 2021.

4. Sheldon Rankins
Rankins is set to have a cap hit of roughly $6.19 million next season, but the Jets could move on with just $750,000 in dead cap. Releasing him would save the team $5.44 million in cap space — cap space that could be allocated elsewhere. There has been some talk of a possible restructuring but talks have abruptly went quiet so a simple release looks evident.

In total the releasing of these four players will open up an additional $21.22 million for Joe Douglas and the Jets to play with.

I not sure his value he was horrible last year but a team could restructure his contract where it allows them to restructure his entire 2022 salary into a signing bonus where the cap hit will be minimal say $750,000.

he did have a bad season, but i want to see him back with us this year. i have a feeling that he knows he laid an egg, and he takes it personally. i might be in the minority, but as much as i dogged him last year, i feel like he is going to be a difference maker!
