Who do you want as OC? Looks like its gonna be one of these 2.

Looks like it is coming down to

A. George Godsey
B. John Morton

Honestly I like the pedigree of both of these guys.
Godsey - comes from the Offensive tree of Charlie Weiss via B. O'Brien. He has experience working with QB's and as an OC calling plays.. He is familiar with Hack and has been said the guy that heavily recruited him. Probably increases Hacks chance of a faster development.

Morton - Is a little bit of a wild card. He has experience with Jim Harbaugh and with Sean Payton. So he has been around a lot of great offensive minds. Both have worked wonders with QB's in the NFL... Harbaugh with both Alex Smith and Colin Keapernick and Payotn with Romo (QB coach in Dal) and Drew Brees. I think a little bit more of a risk than Godsey but he might be ready to take what he has learned and jump to the next level... Some guys just need a chance.

I would take either one but I am leaning towards Godsey for 3 reasons
1. He has experience as an OC
2. He is familiar with Hack
3. He is younger (sounds shallow but that's how I am thinking)

Godsey is who I would like, for the reasons you posted. I think his work would help Hack hopefully approach his ceiling. Also, Godsey is a proven playcaller who was hamstrung by the awful Osweiler signing.

I agree with this also. He had a decent year in 2015 with 4 different very pedestrian QBs. The Osweiler signing almost took down O'Brien, and someone had to be the sacrificial lamb. I hope he is the right guy and it happens quick, because there are a lot of decisions to be made on the offensive side of the ball. If he could fix and properly groom Hack, it would be huge for this organization.

Why not hire both?

Godsey as QB coach since he's familiar with Hackenberg and Morton as OC

I honestly like that Morton has a great background with excellent coaches on the offensive side of the ball. Could be a hidden offensive innovator.

I honestly feel Mac will stack this Offense the right way starting out with the OLine first so that it allows Hackenberg and the new OC to develop properly.

I really hope we can bolster the line with young promising F.A and select Dalvin Cook as our RB.

Talk about placing your young QB in an environment to blossom.

lol...when i first saw the name, i just assumed morton was the former WR who played for the lions and others. turns out it's a different guy (johnie morton vs john morton).

i'd be ok with either one of them. btw, morton was an offensive coordinator for 3 years at USC (under pete carroll and then lane kiffin). i do like that morton has coached with carroll, harbaugh and most recently sean payton, so i may lean towards him.

not sure where people are getting that godsey has worked with hack. he never coached at penn st; his college coaching was at central florida. bill o'brien was his OC when he played at georgia tech, and then they coached together at NE and of course houston.

Rumor is Godsey was a player at Georgia Tech when O'Brien was a coach there.. They formed a great relationship. Godsey pushed O'Brien into recruiting Hackenberg to Penn St.... Why? IDK I guess he saw a lot of potential in Hack that fit O'Briens Offense

I was thinking the Detroit Lions' WR also. I'm also guilty of making the incorrect connection of Godsey working with Hack. I read that Godsey was instrumental in Hack going to PSU to play for O'Brien, and assumed that he was an assistant to O'Brien there. Apparently, Godsey stayed at NE while O'Brien went to PSU and ultimately left NE when OB took the Texans' job.

yeah, i've seen these mentions that godsey pushed o'brien to recruit hackenberg. not sure what the backstory on that is. hack was one of the top QB prospects in the country, so pretty much every coach would have been interested in him

don't be so sure, this is a D draft and we need a shut down corner so don't be surprised if we select on.

I would... deep draft at CB and S as well as OL. Problem with the OL this year is no one is top 10 caliber but loads of talent in the 2nd and 3rd RD.
not a college football guy but did hear that much..

i hope we don't reach at 6, we obviously are in no position to whiff on a top 10 pick..

I would love to trade down into the 20's and get an extra 3rd round pick I'd go Rd1 - CB RD2 - TE Rd3 OL and OL

how optimistic are you we can find a trading partner??

who might fall to 6 that might be enticing enough for a trade??
