Beat Writers, Social Media have determined Zach Wilson is being taken by the New York Jets yet no acknowledgment has been made by the team on who they prefer... Trey Lance & Justin Fields fit better into what LaFleur's concept is being projected to be, but everyone else think the 24th overall ranked prospect should be the second selection in this draft...

So for the fun of it select who you think is the QB in this poll and give your reasons why he should be the guy...

I picked Zach. I know there are some reasons not to be excited about him but the one thing that keeps peaking my interest is his accuracy. That is something that can be improved but if you don’t have it to start, you never really will. Things like reading defenses and footwork can be taught but accuracy is a huge key to me.
Especially in a west coast offense where YAC is huge. If the receivers can catch the ball in stride and not lose their momentum while performing an acrobatic catch, it will be so much smoother.

ZW as well because of the accuracy cited above plus his ability to improvise, quick release, strong arm and most importantly his reputed preparation and film study fervor.

ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. believes the Jets would be better served taking Justin Fields because of the level of competition Wilson faced, his injury history and Fields’ more consistent production.

“I’ve been consistent with Justin all along,” Kiper told the Rich Eisen Show this week. “The way he performed like a champion against Trevor [Lawrence] in that semifinal game, I think cemented it for me… I did stick with Fields for that reason.”

Fields threw for 385 yards and six touchdowns in a monstrous win over Lawrence and Clemson to advance to the College Football Playoff title game this past season – all after he took a debilitating shot to the ribs that almost took him out of the game.

Kiper’s major criticisms with Wilson revolve around his injury history and a soft schedule.

“Undeniable arm talent,” Kiper said. “The year he had… was phenomenal. Now granted, it was against an inferior schedule.”

Wilson finished the 2020 season with 3,692 yards, 33 touchdowns and just three interceptions.

“So he had some talent around him, but I just think that Joe Douglas fell in love with the talent and said, ‘OK, I love this kid. I can reset the clock. Sam Darnold, I liked but I can move him on, get some draft picks,'” Kiper said. “If they weren’t picking second and in a position to draft Zach Wilson, he would’ve stuck with Sam Darnold and not moved on. So obviously for him, it was Trevor Lawrence or Zach Wilson and nobody else.”

Kiper also said that if he was running the Jets he would have kept Darnold and drafted someone like Kyle Pitts or another pass-catcher second overall or traded out of the pick.

“I think Joe Douglas just fell in love with Zach Wilson,” Kiper said, “and that’s the bottom line on that.”

Douglas hasn’t categorically said whether Wilson will be the pick for the Jets, but all signs continue to point to Wilson being the team’s next quarterback. New York really can’t go wrong with Fields or Wilson, but Wilson appears poised to assume the Jets’ starting quarterback mantle.

Since Kiper picks Fields, I definitely pick Wilson. Kiper knows college football very well, but does not know pro schemes nor how players will fit into them. And he has demonstrated this for years. His picks are on raw talent and measurables, but not on the speed or complexity of the pro game. That may be OK for a defensive tackle, but not enough to rate a quarterback.

Kipers take on Russel Wilson
Kiper: “I think he’ll have a Seneca Wallace-type career where you can bring him off the bench and he’ll add a spark.”

Kiper: “Just an average fifth-round pick, in my opinion.” Richard Sherman

More on Mel
Promised in 2010 to retire in eight years if Jimmy Clausen wasn’t a successful NFL QB

Said 1998 2nd overall pick Ryan Leaf’s attitude would be an “asset” in NFL

Predicted Ricky Stanzi would have the best career of the QB Class of 2011

Said 1999 3rd overall pick Akili Smith would be a “great” NFL player

Said 1990 7th overall pick Andre Ware would be an “excellent” NFL quarterback

Had NFL draft bust Dan McGwire and Hall of Famer Brett Favre rated evenly as QB prospects before the 1991 draft

1995—John Walsh: Kiper had rated the BYU quarterback a first round pick. Never played a game

Kiper referred to the selection as "a waste of a pick." Hasselbeck

The more I research Kiper’s picks the more I find he’s so off on QBs it’s scary

I’m glad he’s not on Zach to the Jets
Now let’s hope JD is!

You know what not so funny about your Kiper rant? At the end of his comments, he says the jets won't go wrong with either Wilson or Fields but he prefers fields. His reasons are valid but so what, if we discredit him his preference will go away . If he really goes suck at what he does then his saying that the Jets choosing Wilson isn't that big of a deal just not what he would do should be just as concerning .
The fact that it doesn't makes the whole argument null and void .

We're all assuming its going to be Zach Wilson. I would not be surprised come Draft night if Douglas chose someone else.

We already know what most Jet fans want . The issue is what happens if they don't get what they want or worse, if they do and it blows up in their faces .
Whoever gets pick at 2 will get my support as a Jet fan and i will try and ignore the fact that i didn't like or that i liked the player if things go south . .

The only way it isn’t Wilson is if JD get an absolute haul for #2, and has a deal in place for Jimmy G. Personally I don’t think that’s happening....but ya never know... Personally, even Jimmy G is an upgrade over Darnold
