Who should the Jets target this offseason?

The New York Jets are very prodigious in their main area of strength, the defensive line, but are built like swiss cheese elsewhere.

The top 5 positions the Jets need to address this offseason are:
Cornerback
Free Safety
Offensive Guard
Offensive Tackle
Outside Linebacker

While the Jets are most needy at cornerback, drafting one would result in a long period of waiting for him to develop. If the Jets want to win now, they need to address their secondary issues via free agency, then draft some late-round prospects for insurance.

The Jets should address their offensive line problems both in free agency and early on in the draft, as they don't have much talent or depth on the line. To have a good offense, there must be open holes for the running backs to slip through and time for the quarterback to go through his progressions.

The outside linebacker position can be solely addressed via draft due to the immaculate strength of the Jets' defensive line. The draftee would have time to develop in a strong front 7. A great prospect for the Jets to draft in the first round is Vic Beasley, who can be a great willy linebacker in the NFL, especially if the Jets change to a 4-3 sceme.

While the Jets don't have great quarterback play, the best thing they can do is develop Geno Smith and build a great team around him. He has played just two seasons as a New York Jet, and has faced nothing but complaints. Build a great rush attack and complete defense and if Geno Smith can just be a good game manager at least, the Jets will be a winning team.

To address the Jets' biggest free agency need, they should target Sam Shields at Cornerback, if he is available, as their top priority.

What are your thoughts on the Jets' possible offseason moves?

I will wait to see who we hire as coach because that is big in who we target IMO........alot of coordinators like to bring on players they know.

I'm hoping the Jets sign Dan Quinn, as all signs point to them doing, so they can have a 4-3 defense. Kendrick Ellis would then get the meaningful playing time that he deserves.

We definitely need a CB and I'm hoping they pick Quandre Diggs at some point in the draft. He's a legit corner.

IMO the worst thing the Jets can do is waste any more time on Smith. They need to bring in 2 QB's to compete with him. A vet,( Matt Moore?), and a draft pick.

Smith shouldn't even be guaranteed a roster spot, if he wins one, or even wins the starting job, so be it, but he gets no more free rides.

Definitely- that guy is going to be great! I'd like to see him at left corner. His only knock is his size, but this guy is exactly what we need to spark our defense and create momentum with takeaways!

It's only been two years and he has already thrown for a perfect 158.3 passer rating. If at 5 years, he hasn't become a good quarterback, that is when you give up, but I know he is no Andrew Luck. He can be great if everything clicks, but we don't need him to be great to win a championship. I'm in no rush for the Jets to win the Superbowl. If they rush it, they will make the mistake of giving up too early on theit prospects, be too thin in depth all over the roster, and will probably end up getting into salary cap troubles. If we wait and build a great team, we will have something special.

Andrew Luck??? He's not even a Curtis Painter, Tim Hasselbeck or Charlie Whitehurst. They are/were half decent emergency backups

G-No is a backup the garbage truck and take to the dumpster

I understand where you're coming from here but he had only had 2 years to develop. After his third, we will see what direction he is headed for. If there is no improvement next year, he is surely a backup. Definitely give him competition, though. Honestly, I think the new staff might want their own hand-picked quarterback.

Matt Simms will also be there to compete with whoever comes in. Clearly someone at the organization still wants him there.

don't need to rush it to turn a team around

after kotite who was 4-28 in his tenure here

parcells came in and was 9-7 the very next year after a 1-15 record the year before

in year two he was 12-4 and that is because he changed the culture of the jets and got rid of people that shouldn't have been starting or if he was stuck with them he was not afraid to try alternate people.

yes geno can remain on the roster and practice like everyone else but to think we should try developing him any more than matt simms is redoncoulus.

Very true- and I never said not to give Sims a chance. In fact, they should be unbiased with their decision. If Geno is better than Matt, he should win the job. Sims can be a starter, but hasn't been given a truly fair chance. Geno Smith has been given more than a fair chance. Letting them compete, while drafting someone like Brett Hundley or a late rounder would be optimal. But whoever they choose, they have to stick with. Too much change is never a good thing.
