I voted for Geno because I'm pretty sure he will start the 2015 season as the starter.
Whether or not he finishes the season as the starter is the much harder question to answer.
I hope he does, because if the QB is playing well this team is making the playoffs, but he's 50/50 at best.

I voted for Fitzpatrick. I believe he gives the Jets their best chance at winning. He's not adequate but he's the best on this current roster. Hopefully, all of the good that the defense and running game will do, will not be counteracted by our QB. The CS wants Fitz to protect the ball at all times, do a lot of handing off, and only take what the defense is giving him when he is forced to throw. That's the plan that the Jets have in 2015 to be successful.

actually you will be surprised but fitz has a beautiful and accurate deep ball. Gailey will have him take some chances downfield esp now with devin smith on the roster.

i assume the question was for week 1, so i voted geno. but if the question was for who finishes the season as the starter, i probably would have gone with fitz.
i think geno will get the benefit of the doubt to start the season, although i am not optimistic he will seize this opportunity. given fitz's injury, i'm not sure he will do enough to win the job outright, unless geno really stinks up camp and pre-season. so i think geno starts game 1. how long he remains the starter will be up to him.

I agree the nod should go to Geno if the competition is even remotely close.
If that's the case, let's pray they both played equally WELL, instead of both stinking up the joint . . .
The vote is for what QB plays the most games. If Fitz Starts OR Is Pulled For An INEFFeCTIVE Geno...I don't see our olive being able to protect him and I don't think he'll last more than 6 games played this season. I suspect out RT to still get beat like a drum and Fitz and his injury history not being a good mix. I don't think Petty gets reps till the last game or 2, so Gen by default.

In 10 seasons as a qb, fitzpatrick has made it through 16 games twice...and not in awhile.
also, he always been a bad loser. His record in games played is 33-50...last year was the first time a team was .500 in games he has played. No team has ever had a winning record in a season in games he has played...ever.

If by Week 12 the season has gone off the rails because both QB's (Geno & Fitz) spit the bit, I see no reason why we can't get Petty some game experience in the last month even if he's not completely ready. By that point he should be far enough along not to embarrass himself, and it would be good for him to get a feel for the speed of the NFL game over the final four games, it would serve him well going into next year when he figures to make a push to become the starter.
I hope we still have something to play for down the stretch and that won't be necessary, but if the season is lost I think it would be good for Petty to get some live action, and you give him a basic package, nothing too complicated, keep it simple and just give him a chance to adjust to the speed of the game.
I can't argue with this but the bold part is what I am most concerned about.

If the season goes sour because of QB play I think the Jets will be looking for a 1st round talent next draft...and so will many here.
Maybe...but for a guy who doesn't know how to take snaps, doesn't recognize coverages or defensive formations, let alone anything that resembles an offensive playbook that contains more than a handful of plays (and those few plays were like designed handoffs...they told him throw to player x)...you're asking a lot...

If Petty and his flash card system can transition to taking tests without the answers, great. But I think it's more likely if we struggle with these 2 QBs, we will be hot after the QBs in next year's draft from pro style offenses...it's the first time in awhile we will have QBs this good in a draft class...likely since Luck and Wilson and I'd debate as prospects this class grades as high or higher than that one (as college prospects, not as pro outcomes...though this may be deeper than that class at QB).

Jets did it when they had Jaws guy, 2nd round pick Clemens already on the roster. It took only one season for Carolina to dump 2nd round pick Clausen in favor of Cam. The Chargers took Rivers with Bree's already flashing he could be really good.
