Why is everyone freaking out?

Most of us (myself included) wanted Mac gone, and now he's gone.

Gase, like most HC's, wants a GM he knows, someone who shares the same football philosophy, exactly as it should be.

Now it sounds like Gase is going to get his man, be it Douglas, Kelly or Newmark. Douglas is clearly the front-runner and I suspect Kelly is second.

Okay, the timing wasn't great, I'll grant you that, but that aside we are getting everything we wanted, so why is this forum having a collective breakdown?

The media has their own agenda, they're always going to portray the Jets as clowns.

I don't take my marching orders from the media. Mac had a pretty atrocious track-record in the draft and I'm glad he's gone.

I'm also glad Gase is going to get a GM he knows, is friendly with, and most importantly who shares the same football philosophy.

Not mad at the money thrown to Bell, or Mosley because teams always pay more in free agency to lock up players with proven success...

Like most said they should of moved Lee during the draft, but they hanged on to him for what to score less value?

This organization has been a joke from Woody now to Chris both glorified fans with no knowledge on how to own and run a team... Who is to blame from the top down, starts with the clueless owners that trust all the wrong people to help them continue to be the laughing stock in the league...

I give Mac credit for landing Sam Darnold who like Leonard Williams fell into his lap... Darron Lee was Todd Bowles pick... Because the former GM aka NFL Scouting Director wasn't able to pull the trigger in negotiations to make trades we landed top talent... But looking at his draft all the players he struck out on while passing up real talent boggles the mind...

Yes, he got lucky with RA, Edwards and all those day three options and some rookie free agents but his lack of NOT focusing on need like across the O Line is still a problem that could destroy the longevity of our NOW franchise QB Sam D. ...

Not to mention our current HC/GM/President/Scouting Director Gase is known for getting his QBs killed, so it will be an interesting shit show this season...

It’s the timing of it all. This man handles your entire off season pretty much and you fired him after that??? It’s just the timing of it all that makes this so crazy. I’m still stunned by this pretty much.

I once again I will say that I’m not in mourning over this but I’m not crying tears of joy either. Mac was a pretty decent GM IMO and the Jets better get this right because if they don’t they will regret this for years to come.

There is plenty to legitimately criticize Mac about, but you make it hard to take you seriously, when you claim that every successful move of his was just "he got lucky." At least give credit where it is due for the good moves he made, even if they were too few and far between.

The irony is, even outlets that were usually super-critical of Mac, the NY Post for example, believe that this was a very strong draft for him, and an impressive group of UDFA signings. So the timing is a real head-scratcher. Well, it has happened, and if they do make good hires to replace Mac and Heimer... then perhaps it will have been a good move.

Yes he traded up to get one of the three top QBs in the draft to ensure he got one... Mayfield was his target and Darnold slipped by the Giants and Browns, which in turn let Darnold fall into his lap..

What successful deal did he do that we need to praise for?

• Signing Trumaine Johnson who has yet stepped up and played anything for us?
• Now the issue that they over paid for LeVeon Bell, which I don't think so but okay?
• That he overpaid CJ Mosley, basically saying here is a blank check, just sign?
• How bout that future of an offensive line, a group position that he was slated to be smart about oh wait we have no development at this group?
• Didn't he draft these players no longer in the NFL: Hackenberg, Devin Smith, Ardarius Stewart, Chad Hansen, Lorenzo Mauldin, Dylan Donahue not sure about Deon Simon but damn in the past 4 years to have a half dozen players of 28 total draft selections no longer in the NFL is a head scratcher...

I don't care what the papers say, and the timing is what bothers me... Now it seems that management married Gase to this GM yet again but Gase had other plans... No matter whom is hired Gase will have the ultimate say, will it be good or bad doesn't matter at this point... Gase is running this team from President, VP, Scouting, GM, HC and might as well be owner because they have no clue what they are doing... We should of just hired Jim Harbaraugh or Nick Saban and gave them full control, because this looks like it will only end bad and for the fans will get what they always wanted Johnson & Johnson run out of town and the team sold to a new owner but that means all these current players' careers are a waste...

This draft could be good, good be really bad... Couldn't trade down to stock pile more picks because his negotiation skills are pathetic... And Q Williams was his target or did he fall into his lap? You tell me! Took a risk with our 3rd round pick... Drafted an oft-injured corner, okay pray he gets healthy and could be something but another risk... The rest of the draft time will tell but what may be is just that another What If!

was it a dick move by gase?? i would say so.. but gase clearly figured out what only about 5 guys who follow the team still haven't.. much like coach bowles, maccagnan was in & remained in over his head..

IMO Macc did not coordinate the drafting of players with Gase. Idzik was the same way with Ryan. Ryan wanted us to move up for OBJ. He wanted us to sign Revis when he got released by TB. Idzik refused. Both Macc and Idzik were GM's who or wouldn't work with there Coaches during Draft time. I am happy that he's gone. Now maybe we get a GM who works with his Coach and have some common sense in working on trades.

The trend nowadays seems to be pairing a new coach with a new promising QB. In other words, getting to start with his guy. I’m starting to believe that coaches and GM’s and maybe even the QB should come as a package. They get brought in together, and they get fired/released together if it doesn’t work after 5 years (or sooner if it’s a complete train derailment).

Gase strikes me as the ultimate Alpha Male. Get out of my way and give me what I want. That was never going to work with Maccagnan’s less abrasive personality.

without opining on the rest of the post, darnold did not fall in his lap. there have been stories how the jets knew the giants weren't taking a QB and were locked on barkley. so trading up to 3 meant they were getting one of darnold or mayfield. now maybe they expected darnold to go 1 and they would have gotten mayfield. while i admittedly was skeptical of mayfield before the draft, looks like i was wrong and either one of darnold or mayfield would have justified the trade-up

^^^I agree here. Darnold luckily got past the Giants who made a GIANT mistake. He didn’t really fall into his lap since he made the trade to move up. Leo, Adams and Q fell in his lap and were no brainer picks at the time. The rest of his drafts were garbage outside of Herndon. I wanted Darnold for almost two years after watching him in the Rose Bowl. He is the only QB that I really wanted and Mac made it happen. I thank him for that, but he ruined this team. If he was rebuilding he should have started with OL and by the time Darnold arrives it would have need stellar. Nope. He made moves to make headlines instead of building a team. There is not one fan that can make a good case for keeping Mac. Maybe bad timing but was 100% the right move. I don’t know how Gase will turn out as a HC, but I love him for getting rid of Mac.

Who is freaking out besides the Media? Look, anyone who thought Mikey as GM did a fantastic job Drafting and buying Players have a right to be upset. Everyone who knew Mikey was Horrible at Drafts and Free Agency should be glad. Media has said for years about how poor our GM done in Drafts and ESPN even laughing at our GM about Vikes LB staying. So now the Extra -Sensitive puss -Net work is upset Jets fired their poor GM? HUH? Only 1 bad thing was happening here and that was not firing him with Bowles. I think the reason is Johnson was worried about not knowing enough Football People and kept our GM to help him. Now after Gase showed Johnson how inept Mikey was it was easier to make the decision to let the GM go. So Im happy he is gone even though I dislike anyone being fired but he couldnt do the Job right. Gase pissed me off about opinions on overpaying LB-RB. Gase as a Coach needs to keep his comments on paying players to himself. Gase has to have Players to have his back and play hard and Players with Big Contracts guaranteed dont have to play hard IF they dont want to as we have seen from CB Johnson last season. So Gase nneds to Shut it on Paying Players,. Yeah its too late and Yeah Mikey screwed up in Draft and Free Agency and yeah GM embarrassed Jets again being used to get more money from other teams by Vikes QB-LB and Suh, but its over I hope. Now get a Center and pass rusher that Mikey should have Addressed in Draft and Free Agency. LB Allen gets more sacks then Williams against Pats. No DT-DE gets through the middle of Pats O Line to sack Brady in 2o years and Mikeys Dumb ideas and continued drafting DT and DE with 1st pick was silly.
