Why So Many Tight End Prospects?

Why are there so many tight end prospects when in the past you would be lucky if there was one decent one in a draft year?
Is it:
1) Colleges are recognizing the value of a pass catcher at tight end
2) Receivers who can run are getting bigger
3) College receivers recognize it is a path to the NFL for the guys without real quickness and blazing speed so they start buking up
4) something else?

it is not just so many tight end prospects it is so many types of tight ends...

meat & potato guys that block and catch
vertical threats - self explanatory
possession options
red zone threats
then there those blockers with bricks for hands
