Why the love for Devin Smith? Here is why!!

Right, and just like your post, smith stopped there. As a wr, when you notice oh shit, that's getting intercepted, you should attempt to fight in any possible way. Get a hand in, tackle, flail your hands like a sissy, anything except just shrugging your shoulders and becoming a spectator.

I'm not murdering the kid, is his first game and he should be proud for coming back from broken ribs and catching some balls. But if I'm his coach, I'm suggesting he contest the next under thrown ball.

Be patient, the kid will learn. Anyway he doesn't seem like a physical kind of receiver, more of a speed shifty guy.

I couldn't have emphasized any more in my posts how I am not worried about him, other than watching the play something stuck out to me regarding effort. I just hope it's not a habit that continues.
I like Devin smith, I'm glad he's on our team, I think he has a promising future. Just making an observation and a statement.

I'm not mocking the pick, I just know he's not quite ready to play in an NFL game. At least he was not last weekend. I have no doubt of his athletic ability, I have no doubt of his desire, I have no doubt the Jets made a good choice in the 2nd round.

I just doubt he's ready to play. Here's why:

He had broken ribs for most of training camp. So obviously he didn't get a ton of reps. He also probably didn't get DEMONSTRATIVE time with the WR coach.

Against the Eagles, the guy was covered up like a glove. Whatever he was taught, went in one and out the other. He clearly did NOT follow the coaching on how to get separation. There wasn't any. He made very ordinary cornerbacks look like Darrelle Revis in that game.

And I'm not saying he should be held out of multiple games. He's healthy, so lets use him. The Jets just need to make sure he is given coaching, EXTRA coaching every day this week as far as I am concerned, to learn how to get separation in the pro game. He hasn't demonstrated that he can get any separation in the pro game. Until he learns, he should NOT be playing because he isn't doing the offense any good.

I don't know about him not fighting for the ball it was way under thrown and at the knees of the CB... I don't think Smith could have done anything to fight for that terrible pass..

the ball was thrown to the inside which usually results in an int or incompletion...because that is where the defender usually is.

Yes but they were in stride and the defender had inside position 1 step behind smith. The ball came in forward of the defenders body perfectly in position to stick a hand in had smith been aware.

Big shocker, another pass to smith almost intercepted. Easy catch had he been paying attention

Fitz can't hit Smith to save his life... Their timing is so off... Smith has been open several times.

He and Fitz are definitely not in sync, but that will come, remember basically didn't practice this whole offseason and Geno was the starter when he did.
Didn't like his complaining (rightfully so) before the play was over though. Tackle then make your arguments. Rookie mistake though, I'm sure he will be told this by the coaches until he is tired of hearing it.

Smith had a shaky game today.

His lack of reps were showing. Seems like he was seldom where he was supposed to be.

Plus the way he reacted to the pic. Yes, he was interfered with, but you have to go make the tackle, then complain.

I thought Smith was outworked for position on that pick. Smith will learn the ball is coming to a spot he needs to be in position for and not just running under the ball. Good to see him being involved and Fitz throwing the ball to him.

I have actually been impressed with Smith.

I think Smith has been pretty bad so far. Blows my mind how he seems the field over Kerley, who has proven to be effective and is a gamer.

I would absolutely let Smith play (you don't just keep that speed on the bench all game) but limit his reps in game until he shows in practice that him and fitz are on the same page

Fitz couldn't hit Smith? lol cmon the homerism is terrible

I actually noticed that a bit, but I wasn't sure whose fault it was. I think they will be good to go after some more practice. I really like Kerley b/c he's a gamer, but think Smith could be legit!

He has two good receivers in Decker and Marshall to lean on for guidance. I hope he's open to it. This offense is only going to get better. Hindsight makes me feel like Fitz should've gotten the reps at the start of camp. But after four games things should begin to settle.

I wouldn't say homerism.... I did say their timing is off. But the fact is the QB has to play to the WR's speed and timing and Fitz doesn't have it down yet. Now with that said on some of thos dig and in routes Smith does need to learn to sit down sometimes. But we drafted smith to hit him on the run not at a standstill.. Just my opinion.... Fitz needs to get with Smith and they need to get their timing down. Fitz has to hit him in stride on those routes.

I posted below a few times. Devin Smith is doing exactly what the scouts said his issues are. Also, sulking behind a pick in your 2nd pro game, doesn't really play into the notion of him being able to pick up his game. I hope I am wrong, but the fact that people are blaming Fitzpatrick is ridiculous

WEAKNESSES Lacks natural, soft hands. Will double catch and corral throws into body. Tries to catch, turn and run before securing the throw. Shows a lack of patience in his routes. Game too heavily reliant upon speed. Must learn to be effective when deep ball is restricted by defense. Thin hips and frame. Play strength is below average. Can be frustrated by physical corners. Gets jostled and distracted when bodied hard down the field. Desire lacking as run blocker. Often taken off field and replaced when Buckeyes wanted to run out of "11" personnel.

WEAKNESSES: Lean body type with wiry muscle tone...field fast with light feet, but looks mechanical when asked to move laterally...doesn't set up defenders in his routes and lacks diverse stem releases...wild footwork in his patterns and lacks control in his movements, making him most effective in a straight-line - unpolished as an underneath target and struggles to sink and separate in his breaks.

Inconsistent hands and drops too many easy throws with streaky focus...tracks the ball well, but late to adjust and attack if the ball doesn't hit him in stride...will get pushed around and too easily re-routed and knocked off his path...averaged only 2.2 catches per game as a senior and his limitations kept him from being an every-down receiver.

What does his scouting report have anything to do with Fitz and him not being on the same page with the timing of their routes and throws...

Botttom line he was open 3 times and Fitz missed him 3 times... Wasn't a bad route... Wasn't a dropped pass... Wasn't a lack of physically fighting for the ball.... It was a missed time throw... All I want is for Fitz and him to get their timing down. So thanks for his scouting report, one in which we have all read several times, but this has nothing to do with his perceived shortcomings by the scouts. He was open Fitz missed him... Timing is off... They haven't worked much together with Fitz missing OTA's and Smith missing most of training camp due to injuries.

Sorry but either you are missing the argument here or we are both speaking different languages.
