ESPN -- The New York Jets will be down three defensive starters, possibly a fourth, when they face the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night.

The fourth could be defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, who apparently aggravated his troublesome ankle and is listed as questionable. Ruled out are safety Calvin Pryor (concussion) and defensive tackle Steve McCLendon (hamstring). Linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin (ankle) is doubtful, but he won't play.

The good news for the Jets (3-8) is center Nick Mangold is expected to play after missing four games with an ankle injury. He practiced fully for the third straight day. This has been a frustrating year for the longest-tenured Jet, who has sat out as many games this year as he did in his first 10 seasons.

Wide receiver Brandon Marshall, bothered by knee and ankle injuries, practiced fully after missing two games and is cleared to play.
The Wilkerson development is most troubling for the Jets. On Wednesday, coach Todd Bowles said he expected a strong finish from Wilkerson, saying, "He's feeling a lot better now, so I expect to see a lot better Mo."

Bowles wasn't available on Saturday. Practice was closed to the media.

Wilkerson practiced fully on Thursday and Friday, but he sat out Saturday. It's usually an ominous sign when a player is trending in the wrong direction two days before a game.

Because of his ankle, Wilkerson didn't play in the Week 7 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. He's 11 months removed from surgery to repair a fractured fibula, but there have been complications. He recently said it stems from a tendon in his ankle area.

If Wilkerson doesn't play, the Jets will be down two starters on the defensive line. The only other linemen on the roster are Leonard Williams, Sheldon Richardson, Anthony Johnson and Deon Simon. Mauldin plays as a down lineman in the nickel package. Look for Simon, Josh Martin and Mike Catapano to have increased roles.

Rontez Miles will start for Pryor at safety. Wide receiver Jalin Marshall(concussion) also was declared out.

The way Wilkerson is playing it makes zero difference if he is playing or not. Wilkerson got his money & is a Millionaire & doesnt need or doesnt have the heart or drive to play hard any more. I hope Jets GM takes a look at Patriots & cuts or trades players like Wilkerson that wants big money. Pats only pays SKILLED position at QB & the rest gets ave pay. No one bigger than teams on Pats & it works.

Should have traded Richardson this season. Signing him is signing another Wilkerson ,like hitting the lottery & retire.

Very disappointed in Wilkerson, lways thought he was a classy guy. Lets just hope this season was do to lingering affects from his surgery and he will bounce back next season.

There is no market for him... He is more vaulable playing then the 6th rd pick the Cowboys wanted to part with

I read that their offer was more like a 3rd and 6th or 7th.

I never saw a single report on what the Cowboys were willing to give up, I was just assuming it was a late pick. Jets wanted a #1 in 2017 or 2018 and Stephen Jones said in interview he wasn't giving any of his high draft picks up it would have to be something later in the draft which to me says 6th maybe 5th at best

I think the Cowboys will regret not giving up a higher pick, whatever it was. Their defense and chances to go far in the playoffs would have been considerably enhanced with the addition of Sheldon.

Wilkerson should of entered the season on the PUP list, as for his off the field issues it was one time on his birthday not a big deal as the media made it out to be... As for trading Mo after this season not going to happen his new contract has too many guarantees in the first two years to do so, he is here until next off season...

If he was not 100% this season explains a lot but like Fitzpatrick he is not the only player the cause for the horrendous performance we have witnessed... If and when he is nearly 100%, probably next season we could see a reemergence to his productive old self...

Who gives a shit if he plays or not? The guy has been such a no show all season you hardly even notice he's a part of this team. Honestly, does anyone care about this??? Really, my feeling is truth be told that most fans hope the Jets lose out so change will be made. The majority of fans feel change is necessary at this point.............
