Will Mac draft a TE?

I've heard fans claiming that the TE is never utilized in Chan Gailey's offense. Quite frankly, I think it's nonsense. Chan not using the TE spot last season is a function of a lack of talent at the spot. Just my opinion, but I do not believe Jace Amaro will ever give Chan confidence. He drops the ball way too much and can't block his way out of a wet paper bag.

There isn't a lot of talent at TE in this draft. I guess the guy from Ohio St. is pretty good and grades out to be approximately a 3rd rounder or so. Do you think Mac would want to target this guy for drafting? Or better yet, will mac draft a TE at all? Maybe he pushes this need off until next offseason? Or picks up another JAG through FA to limp through the season much the same way they did last?

But do you TE is a guy that Mac plans on drafting given the opportunity?

we have six tight ends on the roster...
Chan Gailey utilizes H-Backs over Tight Ends, Full Backs in his system -- we have that guy on our roster right now in Quincy Enunwa...

as for Amaro, like I said many times i think the Jets are shopping him quietly...

and no I don't think they will draft a tight end unless they draft a H-Back on day 3...

I agree! Look the Cards have done very well getting some FA TE that can block & some that can catch. even some that can do both. A good GM will get us a TE but lets not draft one. As far as Jace??? I also agree this is not the place for Jace

I tend to agree. If the system doesn't predicate a pass catching TE, you don't need to draft one until day 3... Or wait to UDFAs. How many plays will be run with a TE on the field as a target? I think we had only a handful of catches last year from that spot. Don't dump resources into an irrelevant position in this offence.

A LOT more than you think if the Jets had a decent TE. As far as I am concerned, Chan Gailey's offense is nothing but a joke that will NEVER win the SB without a TE. Any team that has designs on winning the SB MUST have a real live TE, not just an H back or some glorified, big WR. They need the guy that can block and catch passes and force defenses to consider how to stop him.

I've been looking at the tweener guys - big WR who could be more of an H back

Duarte of UCLA?
Cajuste of Stanford?

later in the draft, if Gailey likes them.....

yup - I think we will want any such tweeners to be capable blockers - at least capable of EITHER run blocking or pass protection if not both

We're taking Tyler Higbee, 3rd or 4th RD, book it :global (39):

He looks like a nice prospect, but can he had a little more weight? 6' 6" means he has the height certainly, but could he put on say 10 or 20 pounds successfully?

Do you target this type of guy, or do you look more closely at Enunwa, who fills this role from the current roster?

I really like Enunwa - I'd take another guy like him

Amaro is not dissimilar. He's a bit bigger. Enunwa is between prototype WR and prototype TE, a bit closer to the WR side. Amaro is between prototype WR and prototype TE, a bit closer to the TE side.
