I was surprised to read that Blaine Gabbert QB is the smartest player in the NFL based on his 42 score in the Wonderlic Test.

I was also surprised that Offensive Lineman are the smartest players based on position. I no longer feel like a dummy being a LT (blindside) & DT in H.S. before switching to TE in College !

I thought the word on the street that the jets had on their team the top two highest wonderlic scorers. Fitzpatrick and McElroy

I don't feel like a high score is a good indicator but definitely can't hurt.

Low score for a QB however is a big red flag. One exception though I think Marino had a low score. Must of been all that pot he smoked.

For the most part the test isn't worth much.

Actually Fitz had 41 and then McElroy & Eric Decker were next. I had no idea the Blaine Gabbert was that smart ?
I think it was Vince Young QB who scored a 2 ?

Wonderlic ain't much of a test, I gotta say.
I aced it 3X running and still haven't gotten less than a 49 on any attempt. (HYATT™ has taken sample tests a number of times over the past decade.)

The fact most of these guys score in the 20s to 30s proves they spent a lot more time in school playing football than cracking books.
A score of 20 is intended to indicate average intelligence (corresponding to an intelligence quotient of 100).

Personally, HYATT™ believes the Wonderlic doesn't prove or measure a damn thing other than whether or not the tested persons have had a decent exposure to education at some point in their young lives.

I read somewhere that Fitz's score was a 48, Geno was a 26 or 28. Believe it or not the 26/28 was not that much worse than many of the QBs in the league. A little dated but here you go:

1.Blaine Gabbert - 42, 2.Alex Smith - 40, 3.Eli Manning - 39, 4.Matt Flynn - 38, 5.Colin Kaepernick - 38, 6.Matt Stafford - 38, 7.Andrew Luck - 37, 8.Tony Romo - 37, 9.Sam Bradford - 36, 10.Christian Ponder - 35, 11.Aaron Rodgers - 35, 12.Ryan Tannehill - 34, 13.Tom Brady - 33, 14.Matt Ryan - 32, 15.Matt Schaub - 31, 16.Phillip Rivers - 30, 17.Andy Dalton - 29, 18.Nick Foles - 29, 19.Drew Brees - 28, 20.Kevin Kolb/ EJ Manuel - 28, 21.Peyton Manning - 28, 22.Mark Sanchez - 28, 23.Russell Wilson - 28, 24.Joe Flacco - 27 25.Josh Freeman - 27, 26.Brandon Weeden - 27, 27.Jay Cutler - 26, 28.Carson Palmer - 26, 29.Ben Roethlisberger - 25, 30.RGIII - 24, 31.Cam Newton - 21, 32.Jake Locker - 20

I think your last sentence encapsulates it all very accurately.

From Fitz Wikipedia. TIFWIW

As is the case for most incoming NFL rookies, Fitzpatrick took the Wonderlic Test. Fitzpatrick supposedly recorded a 50 on the test in nine minutes, signifying a perfect score.[4] According to a The Wall Street Journal report that appeared in the September 30, 2005, edition, Fitzpatrick scored a 48 on the exam, not a 50—still considered an exceptionally high score, but the claim that he completed the test in nine minutes is accurate. While his actual score is unknown, he has acknowledged that he left at least one question blank.[5] As the Wonderlic score is the number of correct answers to 50 questions, the best he could have scored would be a 49. To date, Fitzpatrick has the highest Wonderlic Test score ever achieved among NFL quarterbacks.

The only player to earn a verified perfect score on the Wonderlic test was also a Harvard graduate: wide receiver/punter Pat McInally, who played his entire career with the Cincinnati Bengals.[6]
