I would not at any chance..its tough enough to get a kid with right coaching on the correct path to be a viable QB..but then you have to play DR PHIL also and monitor and guide him and make sure he is on the right track....Uh HO sorry ...get out of here..tell it walking...not worth the time of day for a NFL team in the first round...., which the last thing they need is to strike out here...

I voted definitely. He has all the physical tools and the position is too important and too long been underwhelming to not look past some off the field issues.

I totally agree he has all tools....and sometimes you have to take a chance..but I dont think this guy is the guy you take a chance on....if the front office has the conviction to do..no holds barred regardless if the stupid fans get upset if it doesnt work..then go for it....and of course I will root every Sunday in Metlife for him

If I have a gun to my head, I'd MUCH rather have to explain why I took a chance on a franchise QB who didn't work out than why I passed on a future Marino/Rothlesberger . . .

Even if Heisman QB's became franchise QB's at the same rate as non-Heisman QB's, there is about an 80% chance he would not become a franchise QB. Of course, since not a single Heisman QB drafted during the SB era, going on 50 years now, has become a franchise QB, chances are Winston's chances of failing to become a franchise QB are probably much greater than 80%. Still, my gut reaction would be to leave the decision up to the draft team. But with a gun to my head, I choose to go with the almost sure bet: Absolutely do not draft him.

With all due respect, this makes no sense. Because he was voted to win a trophy, his chances of being successful decrease? And if he didn't win the trophy, he chances increase?

This is the best prospect since Luck. You snatch him up, in a second

It's not the trophy, per se, but the effect the trophy has, on those doing the drafting, and possibly even on the player. How else to explain that not one Heisman winner in the SB era has become a franchise QB? As an example of the influence the trophy has on those making the decisions, the Bucs' owners have stated their top pick this year will be influenced by "community relations." What does that have to do with football? As for the effects on the player, I wouldn't be surprised if some guys who win it think they're so good because of it that they don't need to put in the effort to learn the pro game. Any way you slice it, it has to at least give you pause that no Heisman QB during the SB era has become a franchise QB.

we are just fans not coaches but if a fan base is divided 50/50 on a player I don't see that as good.

a true franchise QB would have close to 100 percent confidence IMO.

obv you can never have 100 percent because even namath had doubters who didn't like his long hair or moustaches. He didn't have the clean cut buzzed military hair like earl morral or johnny U.

But he was about as close to 100 percent you can get that we have had.

you should do this poll with mariotta and see what the fan base thinks

You take him!! You attach him to Bowles hip and you room him with D'Brick or Wilkerson and you begin the process of mentoring a 21 yr. old kid to be mature and responsible.

You don't pass on talent like that unless there is proof he is guilty. I'm a "GRACE" guy.

you assuming he has the maturity to be able to do this from what i have seen and heard I don't think he would even do this if he was told.

you can't be with the kid 24 hours a day it only takes a few hours where his immaturity would kick in and he doing something he can't take back.

So for that reason I don't touch him.

Bo Jackson said he tried talking to a athlete about being smart forgot which one but Bo said the guy didn't care to hear what bo said.

Fact is the youth of today don't revere the old-timers who have been their and done it, so I think it is more likely than not that winston fits into the category of not listening.

i've said for a while i'm very leery of him being thrust into the spotlight, especially in the NY media fishbowl.

but if he is sitting there at 6, yes, i take him.

If there is a similar poll done on Mariota, I suggest getting rid of the "gun to your head" part. I recognize the draft team knows more than me, and even though history says there is a strong possibility any QB will not become a franchise guy in the NFL, my initial impulse was to go with "not sure," letting the draft team make the decision, hopefully for football-only reasons. But if my brains will be blown out if the guy doesn't become the Jets' franchise QB, I gotta go with the strong odds. So I went with absolutely not.

No need to apologize. I wasn't offended or anything about the wording. But the point of my post was that the wording did cause me to make a different poll selection than what I would have gone with otherwise.
