Would you trade George Fant?

Would you trade George Fant? He has had a very good year at LT, but Becton is coming back next year to be our LT. Fant playing RT has not played nearly as well. His trade value is very high. Maybe a late #1 or #2 round pick. We can still pick a young top 10 RT, RG, or Center and the pickings are still good in the 2nd round.

Becton can't be trusted.

there has been rumblings over a possible fissure between the coaches and the front office over this.
the crux of the article i read was that JD needs him to stick because it would mean a whiff on the 2020 1st and 2nd round picks if he doesn't pan out; with the coaches frustrated by not being able to get/keep either on the field.

potentially dicey situations there.

Let’s say I agree, you wouldn’t take the 1st for Fant if it were offered?

do you think a 1st would be offered by the 2022 draft? you never know...KC used their 31st for Brown from the Ravens to replace Fisher; it could happen.

but i would think that offer would be made by a team who lost their LT in training camp or OTA's to give us a 2023 1st...yes, i would do that.

George Fant surprised me this year. I was disgusted with him @ RT last year as he ranked and rated dead last 64th/64th amongst all starting OTs last year. But this year. He played much better. He played really good. And has at least earned my respect and fan appreciation. I'd like to bring him back on a team friendly deal.
Regarding this and the better overall level of play on the OL, how much is this due to the scheme and the new OL coach?

i would bet a hefty amount on those factors as well as AVT & The Doctor being next to the tackles instead of GVR & Lewis.

A cuppa things to keep in mind when evaluating the situation - Fant does not grade out well as a run blocker. He is ranked 49 out of 60 qualified Tackles in that category.

the other less obvious consideration is he did not face many tough tests this season - though to be fair - in the games he did he held up well.

No but JD is a shark so anything is possible.

For a 1st round pick? I'd pack his bags myself and drive him to LaGuardia Airport myself.

For a 2nd round pick? I'd help pack his bags and drop him off at the south end of the Van Wyck Expressway @ JFK airport.

In all actual reality. He's not worth a 1st or 2nd round pick. It's probably very rare to turn an undrafted FA (2016) into anything of major profit.

I'm already a fan of drafting Evan Neal #4 overall @ RT and having Mekhi Becton return @ LT next year so of course I'd even accept a 4th/5th round pick for George Fant.

In all actual reality, I prefer him (as well as Morgan Moses) coming off off the bench as quality backups and stronger depth.

The problem here is that Fant has proven to be a far better left tackle than he is a right tackle. With Becton and Edoga holding down the left side, Fant becomes expendable and more so if the team takes a tackle in the first.

I don't think Fant would get a 1st. I definitely don't think Becton is a lock to be in shape and healthy next season. I just don't think you can trade the backup for Becton with Becton not being able to stay healthy. Fant might actually be the better player.

smart play right now is to leave Fant at LT...move Becton to RT as he would be an upgrade over Moses Brown....and you definitely draft a Tackle.

I believe KC knew that outcome from the start - they were motivated to dump the remaining salary. I don't think the Jets benefit from having Brown on the roster. This was just a win-win for both sides

Still doesn’t change the fact that we got an excellent upgrade at RG. even if only for a short time . At the very least the Jets now have an option in free agency to think about knowing that the Doc is a fit .
