I wanted Trevor until he was lost to us. I jumped on the Zach train.......until I saw Justin this week-end.
Now i saw Mel Kiper on ESPN who says the Jets will keep Darnold and build around him. Some guy who played a little football, Frank Gore said the Jets should keep Darnold and build around him.
Can I be for all of the above?

In the short time I've posted here, I find you to be a terrific poster. I am however a bit confused.
If you feel Kiper's expertise is college football, he is saying, "stay with Sam", he is leaning towards keeping the veteran.

Thank you for the kind comment.
I said it because I believe his expertise stops when players are drafted.
He has no perspective about their ability, or development, once they join an NFL team. He rated Darnold highly, so he still thinks he has the ability to perform at the next level, and views him through that lens. I'm saying he doesn't follow-up and re-evaluate, so he doesn't have facts/ observations to see what we have seen.

Darnold is what happens when you try to squeeze a round peg into a square hole. Gase was too rigid in his ways not to play into Darnold's strengths, thus the significant regression. The big question that needs to be answered is what if an HC/OC can do for Darnold that others did for Allen, Mayfield and Jackson - not to mention Tannehill. I don't know the answer whether its' too late for #14 or he needs a different environment. I think that Douglas needs to continue to fortify the offense up front and at the skill positions before throwing the baby out with the bath water.
As far as Kiper is concerned, I agree that his track record is spotty at best but he wasn't the only one who thought Darnold had the goods. In fact, several experts were saying that he had the highest ceiling of any of the QBs in his class as recently as this summer. Gase fucked Darnold, plain and simple, and its up to JD and his next HC to see if he is salvageable.

Darnold's game is like dining at Outback. Wherever you go and eat at Outback, it's exactly the same in NY, Florida, or Arizona. It's ok, it'll do, it won't wow you, and it'll deliver exactly what you expect. You want it to be more, but that's just not what it is.

Darnold has to really put in the effort this offseason to change his footwork otherwise it won't matter where hes playing. He has to see how his work out partner improved this season while he regressed.

And maybe he needs glasses so he see whats going on around his receivers and avoid throwing those interceptions.
