The True Test

Even some of the experts have been giving some respect to the Jets. If they beat the Browns which I believe is really important for their confidence. They know they are the better team and should win this game. It will be a big boost going into the Pats game.

Well, the Browns aren't going to beat the Jets. The fact is, they CAN'T beat the Jets.

But the Jets can beat themselves? The Cleveland Browns are an 0-4 team with a turnover prone QB. He averages giving up two charity turnovers per week. Just about everything that you can do poorly the Cleveland Browns own the stat on. So this isn't about the Cleveland Browns suddenly over night becoming this good team that can actually exploit weaknesses.

This is ALL about whether the Jets can play like we KNOW (Now. We didn't for the first two games) they can? If they do, they walk out of Cleveland with a victory.........

Well I hope they do. I want to care about Pats week. If they lose, I'm back on the lose for a pick train. The one thing about this year is this may be the year to catch the Pats. We just don't have the team to do it I don't think.

We'll see........And I agree there's never been a better year to really do a number on the Patsies.......

I want them to play hard and show improvement, as players and as a team. If they do that, I don't care about the scoreboard.

Last year, too often they phoned it in. Not this year. This team may not be talented enough to beat everyone, but they have been playing very hard.

Totally agreed. What has made this team fun is the effort they are showing and the enthusiasm they display. I believe that begins with Jamal Adams and continues with Maye, Ealy, Powell and others. Also, it's clear that Mac absolutely nailed this year's draft. Kudos to Mainejet for seeing this before most of us did. McGuire may be the steal of the draft. Dylan Donohue can play and it's a shame he got hurt. Over the second half of the season I think/hope Stewart will emerge too. Picking up Sefarian-Jenkins and Ealy were strokes of genius.

If we play with the same focus and grit, Bowles deserves to come back, regardless of # of wins. Given the number of pieces that are falling into place and with $90+mm and an extra second rounder (for Sheldon - haha!) there will be a lot of expectations for next year. That would make this year a GREAT success.

Maye is actually a very good player, but I think he's been helped tremendously by having Jamal Adams calling the defense? Jamal Adams has it between the ears besides being a good Safety athletically speaking. Maye is a good athlete, but I don't believe he'd be as effective without Adams around?

And I'm also sort of frustrated (not angry), that Chad Hansen hasn't been more involved with the offense? I think this kid has a lot of talent. He could easily right there with Robbie Anderson fighting for the number 3 WR spot? By this time next year, I figure Enunwa will be our number 1 and Ardarius Stewart will be the number 2. That's my take anyway.

And yes, as much as I am very cautious in saying so, I must admit Toilet has been great with this team over the last two. I just really hope it continues and he can illustrate to Jets nation that he's a good HC, one worth holding on to?

I thought Toilet was fried about half way through 2015........

Adams is much better than Maye, but I'm giving Mac credit for putting the two of them together. And his enthusiasm is as contagious as Adams'. I don't think Pryor or Gilchrist would be doing as well as Maye is. Besides, when was the last time ANY second round pick contributed ANYTHING to this team. I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth. I think we'll be seeing a new #1 WR next year either through the draft or free agency. That would make Enunwa, Stewart, Anderson, ASJ that much better. I like what Bowles is doing with Stewart. He's keeping him on the sidelines until his blocking gets better. Picking up Kearse and Kerley were two additional good pickups by Mac. Hansen hasn't been completely healthy but I'm hoping he contributes by the end of the year.

well unless you're comfortable with bowles as a lame duck, that means an extension.. '18 is the last year on his deal..

personally, i need to see real improvement with in game decision making.. i don't want the guy here long term if he's destined to get out coached/make WTF decisions on the sidelines..

oh & enough with playing favorites with the depth chart..

The way they have been playing deserves our gratitude. Playing with heart and enthusiasm is something this team hasn't done in a long time. My hats off to these guys as long as they continue to show effort. Truth is that even if they lose a game they are gaining experience and that is a key element to developing a competitive team. I am enjoying watching this team play finally.

Bowles has to get better at time management. The delay of game at the end of the first half was really bad. However, the Jags ran at will in the beginning of the game and Bowles made adjustments to slow that down considerably and for that he deserves credit. The defense is not great but he's doing a good job with what he has. I like the way the DL is filling gaps and letting the LB make plays. And they're not overplaying and biting on so many plays like they had been. If he, like the team, continues to improve, he deserves to stay.

OK, that's fair enough..

the schedule is about to get dramatically tougher, (at least on paper) how much improvement are you looking for?? because again, if he stays, inevitably he will then be extended.. & if so, how long of an extension would you be good with??

Look, There's no reason to think we can't win many if not all of those games? That may sound crazy, but these last two games showed me a few things:

1) Now, more than ever, any team can beat any team on any given Sunday

2) The Jets are a better team than they have been getting credit for being.

3) All of the mistakes they have made thus far, excessive penalties, porous run defense, etc., these are all very fixable problems? It's the problem of probably the strongest area of the team. The DL is very talented and they should be able to correct these issues if they apply themselves.

So yes this is definitely a gauntlet of sorts. But it's a gauntlet where I don't believe the team has ever had such a clear view of what's in front of them and one that they should have every confidence they can win........

MaineJet?? Is this really you??

Quite honestly I think watching Adams and Maye on the field together is like watching rookie versions of Polamalu and ed reed - accept on the same team on the field at the same time. Adams is the athletic hit hard freak like troy and Maye is the ball hawk like reed. In another year or two the middle of our defense will be deadly.

I have never been a fan of bowles....but hes starting to change my mind. He revamped his coaching staff well, he regained the locker room and has these youngsters believing...and his team is taking risks on the field on both sides of the ball. If they keep playing their hearts out and we keep seeing improvements it demonstrates growth as a HC. Remember he was just a DC prior to this. A rookie with small potential. This is the year to show us he has grown into a HC. If he does that I will be ok with giving him another 2 years.

Can't be good. World may be getting hit by a meteor.

Crazy - This is the most positive I have seen a Jets forum in ......7 years. Maybe more positive then 2010. Its funny since we were supposed to be tanking. Now win or lose we have something no Jets fan has had since Namath...hope for the future.

I've got to be honest...I have no idea what will happen in Cleveland. On paper, if you're looking at our records, we have a real shot tomorrow. But we know what usually happens when we get too optimistic for our own good.

Like a lot of us, I was preparing for the worst at the start of the season. We were ranked 32nd in the NFL Power Rankings. Rock bottom.

As it turns out, we've won more games after four weeks than many predicted for the whole season. That was why Brandon Marshall moved to the Giants...to be guaranteed playoff football.

I wonder how that's working out?

So, stay disciplined, improve our run defense, and we could be heading for Foxboro with the same record as those 16-0 at the start of the season Pats.

Winning is fun!!

As cliched as it may be, it's really not about wins and loses. It's about how hard these guys play and how prepared they are. If the games look like the Raiders games, that ain't gonna cut it. If they play the way they did against the Phins and still lose to teams like Denver, NE and KC, that's acceptable. They have more talent. Way more talent. I think we can beat the Browns, Bills, Chargers and maybe the Bucs or the Saints. If they continue to play as hard as they have over the last two weeks, I'm happy to add two years to Bowles's contract.

As far as Mac is concerned, I think he first 1.5 years need to be written off. Since then he has started to build a solid core and with $90mm in cap space and an extra second round pick (now that the second round curse has been broken!) expectations will be high next year. I think he gets his QB in round 1 even if it's between picks 6-12. Remember in the last 3 seasons alone, Deshaun Watson was pick #12, Derek Carr #36, Teddy Bridgewater #32, Russell Wilson #75, Zak Prescott #135, and on and on.

Did TB loosen up the reins on the D, meaning he is not calling all the plays anymore.
