Former Jets C Nick Mangold is still feeling the impact of his release and is not sure he will return to the NFL, he said during SNY's "Jet Stream" podcast.

Speaking of his son, Mangold said his departure from the Jets was "difficult emotion to deal with. You have the pain of being cut, but you see the joy in his eyes."

Mangold, who made the pro bowl seven times in eight seasons, was released by the Jets in the off-season after 11 years with the team. He has not joined another team since then and has been plagued by a lingering injury. "Maybe there's more to (my career), maybe there isn't," Mangold said.

Mangold played at least 14 games in all but one of his 11 seasons. But his 2016 campaign, which lasted just eight games, was cut short due to an ankle injury.

Losing Nick was a bitter pill to swallow as he was a dedicated workhorse for the team. I'm guessing he was cut both because his ankle injury was still giving him problems and he turns 34 this year which doesn't fit well with the younger team idea. I have no doubt he will join the ring of honor group and the Hall of Fame gang both some day and deservedly so.

Players like him are rare - I like the part where he said he didnt want to take anyones money because he knew his ankle wasnt right and he is not that type of player.....compare that to wilkerson who happily took his money with a bad leg and attitude.

I agree look at Geno, He took the Giants money even though he knew his jaw was not right

Nick was always one of my favorites and it's really killing me not seeing him out there. However, I must say, Wesley Johnson is doing an admirable job replacing him thus far? He's surprised the hell out of me. I honestly believed this OL would be 2007 all over again? It's pretty good although we are only through a quarter of the season. I think Mangold should take some pride in that. He had a hand in bringing Johnson up to snuff.
