Against 3 rd string , roster bubble players. He should have been ahead of Hack and gotten the first team reps in preseason, but both Petty and Hack were way behind McCown in camp. So much so that with all the reps, neither could catch him.
First I was responding to the sarcastic quote of "even after his preseason, OKAY". Petty had the best stats by far. Who he played against isn't his responsibility. He did a great job in preseason. Most of the reps went to Hack in practice, not Petty.
There was no catching McCown in preseason, because there was no competition. McCown was the anointed starter from day one. They paid him almost $8,000,000. No body else was interested except the Raiders who offered him less than 2.
The 5 wins were meaningless. It knocked them out of contention for a possible REAL starting QB, and has set them on a path to 6-10 to 8-8 for the foreseeable future. Probably with McCown as starter again. Bowles learned nothing from the party with Fitz.
Petty may bomb in the next 3 weeks against 3 teams that are looking like division winner's. The time to start him was in September.
Total waste of a season. And more then likely next season unless Bowles is fired
