Petty ‘Trending Upwards’ as He Preps for Saints

You do realize if Petty is any good, Bowles should be fired immediately. If Petty shows he has potential in these last three games - we should of been playing him the entire year.

So you think a coach fighting for his coaching career should've gone with Petty all year, even after his preseason, OKAY

Should Belichick have been fired for not starting Brady? Or let's go more recent. We're you advocating for Garrett to be fired when Dak played well last year? Should the Vikings fire Zimmer because Keenum is playing well? Did Parcels suck as HC of the Giants because he had Hostetler as backup? The list can go on and on.
Bowles is not a very good HC. There is plenty to complain about with him, but Petty has underwhelmed, and couldn't beat out the 39 year old JAG. He's a likeable kid, will the light suddenly come on for him? Possibly, but it would be a surprise to everyone if it does. There are much more valid arguments for Bowles to be fired.

That may be a part of the organizational philosophy. Have a veteran leader playing QB to build up the supporting cast, so the supporting cast will be in place to help a young QB.

You do know logical reasoning is not allowed on an Jets discussion board don't you?:global (14):

Huh. Petty had, by far , the best pre season of the 3 Jets QB's. 32-48 66.7. 426 yards, 3 TD's 1int. 106.7 QB rating.
if it was actually an open competition, as Bowles said it was, Petty wins hands down. It wasn't a fair competition. Bowles put his personal preference for old QB's above the teams future.

Don't know how he is going to do tomorrow, but he should have been the starter from day one. This whole season was Fitz part II.

Against 3 rd string , roster bubble players. He should have been ahead of Hack and gotten the first team reps in preseason, but both Petty and Hack were way behind McCown in camp. So much so that with all the reps, neither could catch him.

First I was responding to the sarcastic quote of "even after his preseason, OKAY". Petty had the best stats by far. Who he played against isn't his responsibility. He did a great job in preseason. Most of the reps went to Hack in practice, not Petty.

There was no catching McCown in preseason, because there was no competition. McCown was the anointed starter from day one. They paid him almost $8,000,000. No body else was interested except the Raiders who offered him less than 2.

The 5 wins were meaningless. It knocked them out of contention for a possible REAL starting QB, and has set them on a path to 6-10 to 8-8 for the foreseeable future. Probably with McCown as starter again. Bowles learned nothing from the party with Fitz.

Petty may bomb in the next 3 weeks against 3 teams that are looking like division winner's. The time to start him was in September.

Total waste of a season. And more then likely next season unless Bowles is fired

I disagree, McCown had an advantage in knowing the WCO. Petty and Hack had plenty of first team reps in Camp but McCown was simply better. Hack and Petty were given the preseason games to show something. To surpass McCown on the depth chart and failed.
I get 5 wins are meaningless. So would 12 wins or 15 without a Superbowl. But the team was never playing to lose.
Tell me. Who is the Real starting QB they missed on in the upcoming draft? Who is this surfire FQB ? I assume he will lead the Browns to the Superbowl since they are the tank Kings and will surely get the Real QB you covet.
And since we are on the QB subject, what FA would you have signed last off-season? Who outperformed McCown? I can list all who were paid much more and didn't play nearly as well as he did.

what about the woody johnson era leads you to believe this absolute leap of faith you're making?? bowles of all people?? maccagnan?? mccown being the de facto starter (again) in '18??

& all these "young players" mccown has helped develop, is a tired, empty talking point..

as if any of us here could definitively forecasted what petty would, or would not have done with the kids as this seasons starter.. if the kids actually had a change to get on the field, of course..

Good heavens, really? It was merely a theory.

I know, I know. Same Ol' Jets. They would never do anything smart.

Look bottom line is you have 2 rookie quarterbacks that couldnt take the field in 2 and 3 years because journey men backups were better. Either you need to blame the GM for picking them or the coaching for not developing them. You cant have it both ways. Are you trying to say that no one in the organization is responsible for not having the ability to start a rookie at QB in 3 years?????

I got a better one, name me on other team in the NFL without a franchise quarterback that has spent two picks on quarterbacks in this amount of time and not started them to at least see what they have in a real game?

Hopefully the Petty love fest and fiasco is over with now and we can move onto Hack playing the last so games. So we can get past the Hack fiasco also. Some of us, namely me need to see for a fact that he sucks that bad in game action. Lol!!!

If he was trending upwards going into the Saints game? I can only imagine where he actually started? I cringe to even think how BAD it was? The fact is, Petty showed that he wasn't even decent depth yesterday. He's not even good enough to be another teams 3rd string QB. That's how bad this kid is. I'm done with the experiments with the bargain basement shopping Mac is doing? Enough BS. Draft a real QB once and for all. A guy that can actually be good enough to step on the field and then we can see if he can develop. Petty and Hack suck so bad that they should longer be allowed to play for the NFL. In fact, I believe that what will ultimately happen with both of them. After the Jets fire them, and that will probably happen this off season? At least Petty is gone. I think both of them may get tryouts but they will ultimately be out of the league forever? their playing days are over. they are not NFL talent. Just two more fine examples of players who peaked in College........

Couldn't agree more. Petty is stealing money more than Wilkerson is. At least Wilkerson was good at one time.
