Report: Jets, Sheldon Richardson show mutual interest in return

The Seattle Seahawks will have some hard decisions to make this offseason and for now, they can't stop to think about any of those decisions publicly but that holdup could all change by next Sunday, if they lose to the Dallas Cowboys and officially get booted from playoff contention; however one of their pending free agents may already have designs to go elsewhere.
According to the New York Daily News Manish Mehta, the New York Jets and defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson have mutual interest in him returning to the Big Apple in 2018.

Depending on what Richardson commands on the open market, he may price himself out of the Seahawks market with limited 2018 funds and tight Jimmy Graham, left guard Luke Joeckel and wide receiver Paul Richardson also hitting free agenc but going back to the Jets would strike a very particular blow to the Seahawks. Obviously, they traded a 2018 second-round pick and hometown hero Jermaine Kearse to acquire Richardson.
And while Kearse has had a renaissance year away from Seattle; Richardson hasn't provided the counting stats production everyone thought (37 tackles, 1 sack); although, he has made life easier for pass rushers and run stoppers around him and had his hand in several turnovers. Still, trading away a pick and player only to watch him return to the place you traded him to would be the ultimate 2017 move gone awry for Seattle.

On the flip side, the Seahawks would recoup a compensatory pick if Richardson leaves in free agency; so that mitigates some of the damage of the trade. Richardson himself was non-committal about his future during the only time the subject was broached this season in a week 14 press conference.

"We'll let the future happen and that's where I'll be," he said.

That would be a real blow to Seattle, giving up Kearse,a second rounder, for a possible compensatory pick in 2019.....

Please keep in mind that this comes from Manish. So there is not much credibility to anything he says.....

Considering his attitude and his detrimental impact on the locker room, would the Jets really go down this route again?

Then again, do Mo's issues continuing after Sheldon was dealt suggest Mo was the bad influence, and not Sheldon? (*Obviously keeping in mind his awful decision a couple offseasons ago.)

Sheldon wants to win, we know that and he is an outspoken individual that keeps it real the only problem is he needs to know when not to speak about things otherwise his talent is unmatched...

This organization will weigh all their options but I highly doubt his return, especially with all the talent available this off season...

Players that would fill the Kony Ealy role is out there, like Aaron Lynch (49ers), Marcus Smith III (Seahawks), DeMarcus Lawrence (Cowboys), Carun Reid (IND), and DaQuon Jones (Ten) -- knowing this front office Smith from Seattle is at the top of their list... Lynch is a close second just because both play in NFC West very familiar to HC Bowles... Who knows we can get both...

Mclendon isn't done yet as he showed he is a viable option, remember we do have Deon Simon... We will only need depth behind Leo, which places Richardson out of the running since he is a starter in this league... One player who could fill this option is Miami Dolphin Terrence Fede a NY Native...

So to reiterate no I don't think Sheldon will return just because there are too many options out there for the team to continue to move forward... [h=1][/h]

prototypical jets...

Not that this article means anything, but its alarming how the first few things we hear are we want an ex D lineman back as opposed to rumblings about improving the ...offense? Can't wait for us to re sign Sheldon and draft a converted D lineman in round 1!

He is talented, or at least he was, but he didn't overwhelm in Seattle, Why I don't know. I believe that he is capable of being a difference maker but then there are other options available to the Jets as well. What impact would he have on the locker room ? That's a big question ? Does he really want to come back or is someone just assuming that he does just because he will be a free agent at season end. If he came back would he be giving full effort all the time or coasting ? There are a lot of questions that pop up when you consider bringing him back. I have reservations myself, not because of his skill set so much but because I don't know what we can count on effort and attitude wise.

you have to wonder who said what and why...

maybe RIchardson was hoping to be long term with us, but his actions spoke louder...

"IF" he came back is it because he sees how Mo, got paid and is coasting now...

or does he really miss the organization and wants to be one of the reasons this team takes the next step <--- even so, I would say NO -- this team can not risk the future on what ifs...

If he comes back he isn't getting a big contract.. No one is gonna pay the contract that he was on track to get after his first 2 years and what his 2nd ccontract should have been. He is in the 1 year show me contract tier of free agents

I don't know what Mehta's deal is with Richardson, maybe he was his only source on the team and lost him. Richardson hasn't done much since he went to Seattle. I know Bowles really likes him, but he underperformed when he was here, and by all accounts was a problem in the locker room. I say thanks but no thanks. Richardson can be replaced and he has been.

I just know that even the possibility of him coming back makes me very uneasy. We can't know what he is thinking. Maybe he thinks he has no where else to go after a poor showing this past season and is trying to con the Jets into putting him on the payroll. Maybe he thinks the Jets are in trouble and he can get a big deal. Maybe he has turned 180 degrees and would put in the effort and maybe he's not really interested in coming back at all. I can't help it. I have concerns and really get an uneasy feeling about it.

We all know Richardson had problems off the field, but none for 2 years now. He never took plays off and his effort on the field has never been an issue. He wasn't a locker room cancer, in fact he finally took up for his teammates after Marshall was berating guys like Enunwa and other young players all season. The guys who split the locker room we're Marshall, Decker,Fitz and Mangold. It started in OTAs with their no shows and public campaign for Fitz., and continued when Fitz was benched. Richardson finally called him out after months of his underperforming and blaming every one else.
I seriously doubt the Jets are looking into bringing him back and I don't think it would be the best option. There will be cheaper options but I don't get the false narratives about him not giving effort or being a locker room cancer while the real cancer, Marshall gets praise. People we're suggesting that Richardson was a bad influence on Mo for missing meetings and being late, yet this was happening with Mo before Richardson arrived and is still going on with him gone. Maybe Mo was the bad influence???

I seriously doubt it? Quite frankly I think this article is a lot of fluff nonsense. Lets be honest here....... He pretty much wore out his welcome in NY. So do the Jets really want the risk associated with such a powder keg? Not to mention he really hasn't produced for a while now? Maybe it's lack of intensity or preparation that is killing him on game day, but he's simply not the flashy player he once was.

Todd Bowles is also garbage, so seeing Wilkerson / Richardsons play dip the last few years since Rex left shouldnt be a shock to most people. I would be fed up to playing in this gimmick system for this coach but guys like sheldon and mo crossed the line. You still are paid to be a professional. I hope sheldon and Mo are both far away from the jets next year

You and I are in lock step with this? How many times must it be brought up that this flunky gets constantly outcoached in the 2nd half? How many times have his lack of ability to make 2nd half adjustments come back to bite the team in the ass?

Honestly, if we are card stacking Toilet against Bellichick, is there any debate at all? Toilet is a damn amateur in comparison. I don't care about the Jets winning 5 more games than people thought they would. They're still 5-11 and that SUCKS. It's time to get the real deal in town. Enough of this idiot that everyone thinks should be given the benefit of the doubt just because he's black. ANY other HC that had screwed up as many times as Toilet has would have been fired by now..........

It's really strange but the nonsense articles that we usually see in the off-season when there is really no football news are popping up on every team right now. Are the beat writers as disinterested in the game as fans seem to be?
