Report: Jets, Sheldon Richardson show mutual interest in return
The Seattle Seahawks will have some hard decisions to make this offseason and for now, they can't stop to think about any of those decisions publicly but that holdup could all change by next Sunday, if they lose to the Dallas Cowboys and officially get booted from playoff contention; however one of their pending free agents may already have designs to go elsewhere.
According to the New York Daily News Manish Mehta, the New York Jets and defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson have mutual interest in him returning to the Big Apple in 2018.
Depending on what Richardson commands on the open market, he may price himself out of the Seahawks market with limited 2018 funds and tight Jimmy Graham, left guard Luke Joeckel and wide receiver Paul Richardson also hitting free agenc but going back to the Jets would strike a very particular blow to the Seahawks. Obviously, they traded a 2018 second-round pick and hometown hero Jermaine Kearse to acquire Richardson.
And while Kearse has had a renaissance year away from Seattle; Richardson hasn't provided the counting stats production everyone thought (37 tackles, 1 sack); although, he has made life easier for pass rushers and run stoppers around him and had his hand in several turnovers. Still, trading away a pick and player only to watch him return to the place you traded him to would be the ultimate 2017 move gone awry for Seattle.
On the flip side, the Seahawks would recoup a compensatory pick if Richardson leaves in free agency; so that mitigates some of the damage of the trade. Richardson himself was non-committal about his future during the only time the subject was broached this season in a week 14 press conference.
"We'll let the future happen and that's where I'll be," he said.
That would be a real blow to Seattle, giving up Kearse,a second rounder, for a possible compensatory pick in 2019.....
Please keep in mind that this comes from Manish. So there is not much credibility to anything he says.....
