I am tossing this out as a shot-in-the-dark possibility. Both the Jets and Giants want to upgrade their secondaries. What if...

Step 1: Jets sign Honey Badger
Step 2: Jets package Marcus Maye, the #6 overall pick, and one of their second rounders to the Giants to move up to #2 and take the QB of their choice?

This way, the Jets have Adams and Mathieu at safety. Maye upgrades the Giants' secondary. The Jets can draft their QB. And in all likelihood, the Giants will land Nelson at #6 after Barkley and the run on QBs.

I know there are way too many moving parts to this, but to me, it makes an awful lot of sense.

Absolutely. The Jets would come out big winners with Honey Badger and their young QB in this draft, probably Rosen or Darnold.

And the Giants get a good young FS, and probably Nelson to beef up the interior OL. They win, too. But they’d be passing on Saquon Barkley, and I’m not sure they’d actually do that. He and Nelson are the only real slam dunks in this draft.

Nice trade proposal, though. It’s way more realistic than some of the far fetched stuff I read sometimes!

Speculation is that Crabtree will be released because of his 7 million dollar price tag.

He’s 30, but still a pretty good player. We could use another receiver.

I would do that trade in a heartbeat especially if Darnold was the QB. I would do it even for Barkley, but the world would crucify the Jets if they traded up for a RB when they always need a QB.

Dolphins release Pouncey. The guys on WFAN want the Jets to go after him even though we signed the other center.

I don't think anyone here has mentioned that brady's blindside protector Nate Solder has moved on to protect Eli instead. Tired of getting yelled at so he will be protecting Eli who is a much nicer guy. so sad for poor tom. Of course word from NE is that Donte Scarnechia will quickly find a young replacement and train him to be just as good before the start of training camp. That's what scarnecchia is known for and he's done it for what seems like a million years so they are probably correct.

Also, not sure anyone mentioned that one of the 2 Wes Welker clones has left the portal too. Danny Amendola gone to the Dolphins back to the place where Welker came from.

HA! I read some of the comments. It seems like a lot of Jets fans want to give up nothing, but get something.

My whole point is that signing Honey Badger only works if you pair him with Adams. That leaves Maye the odd man out. That's why he becomes expendable.

As for the Jets Nation thing, I don't know if I've ever been on it, so I have no idea if someone there borrowed this idea, or if it was just two Jets fans independently having the same brainstorm.

If we signed Mathieu, he will cost a lot. By keeping Maye, Adams, Mathieu it would greatly enhance our secondary especially when teams need to pass.
I really don't see the Giants making that trade.

no I got ya, thought it was a good thing to get our forum out there to interact with other Jets fans...

if we bring Mathieu, doesn't necessarily place Buster Skrine out the door because the Honey Badger can cover outside receivers... If we re-sign Mo Claiborne then with the Honey Badger at nickel puts Skrine on the outside looking in...

the premise of bringing in a JACK type DB means he becomes the X factor with Maye & Adams at Safety, TJ & ? at Corner.. Mathieu can play alongside Williamson (newly signed) kicking Lee to OLB/ER with his speed... So many options with him on the field as an addition without moving on from anyone currently on the roster...

but to move up for one of these QBs is stupid if you ask me, they all have their own baggage there is no clear cut franchise guy...

so far with the free agency moves opens the door for us not only NOT to take a QB with the 6th pick buying us time to wait til next year (I know everyone wants someone this year) but also makes us a FA destination by giving Bridgewater a second chance to do what he has the potential to do...

we got the center, they will roll with the other four for at least the next year... we have the insurance of McCown who was already named the starter heading into training camp doesn't guarantee he is the day one starter, Teddy is going to get every chance to take the job, guarantee it with the type of contract he signed...

our backfield has short and long term conditions with it... the Jets basically have an escape clause with Crowell after one year, Bilal Powell entering contract year...

so with the 6th pick take BPA or trade back looks to be play here... Nelson/Fitzpatrick/Barkley or trade back...

I can understand that. If none of the QBs really make you want to move up to get them, then absolutely keep what you have, see what falls to you, and go from there. No sense in robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Cut Skrine, sign the Honey Badger, and we have a ridiculous secondary

Lets be frank, Skrine is probably the most overrated player on the team now that Wilkerson is gone.

Someone should give him Elvis Patterson's old nickname; TOAST, cause all he does is get burned.

In todays NFL your Nickel is essentially a starter, so whatever the Honey Badger is paid, and I know he is making a killing, at 25 he is worth every penny.

That said, IMO if we cut Skrine and ink the Honey Badger, we can make a pretty good argument that we have the best backfield in the league, or damn close.

And the oldest players in the bunch, Johnson and Claiborne, both just turned 28 in January and February. The other three are 25 or younger.

This is how the elite franchises operate. If they have a chance to go from GOOD to GREAT in a unit by adding one more piece, they strike like a sitting cobra.

And here's the thing, WE HAVE THE MONEY, its just a matter of, do we have the foresight and the will?
