Yeah, I saw that. It would have been great, but it was a luxury, not a necessity. The secondary is already stout.
Stout is not GREAT.

We had a chance to take that unit from Stout to GREAT, and its upsetting that we couldn't blow 1 Years/7Million out of the water for this playmaker.

Thats the problem with this organization and always has been, always satisfied with GOOD, forever missing an opportunity to be GREAT.

I agree I’m not understanding it either. You want to build through the draft and acquire young talent to build this team. A 25 yr old probowl DB hits the market, you have the most cap money and you lose out on signing him. It doesn’t make sense to me. Plus the player already knows the defense system. Don’t get it.

The problem is, in a salary cap league, if you load up to be great in one area, you often are bad in another because you don't have the resources.

It’s obvious where I stood. I thought it would be a great signing. And seeing that he was had for 1/7? Wow.

But there are other factors that go into it. Did Mathieu even give us an opportunity to sign him? Did the Jets have the same philosophy of the fans regarding scheme? As Sack pointed out, just because we have money left, doesn’t mean we’re going to throw it around like confetti. The Jets may find another player or two who shakes loose from a team in the coming months that fills a bigger need on this team, and we would have to pay him.

No point banging our our heads on the table about the Honey Badger. Movin’ on....

A great secondary doesn't mean a great defense. The 'whole of the parts' theory must apply. We saw last year that one weak link on the offensive line made the entire unit terrible. Don't get me wrong, I don't see any downside by switching out Mathieu for Skrine for .5mm but we need to see Mac's plan for the rest of the team. At this point, we need another DL even after signing Pennel (which was a good signing). We need an OLB desperately. Without that we could have 4 Revis's in his prime and they will still get picked apart.

Who will the QB (whomever that is!) throw the ball to? Sorry but Q, Stewart, Hansen and Leggett are not going to keep defensive coordinators up at night. Let's also acknowledge that if (when?) Mac trades up to get his QB, that will leave us with only 2 picks in the first 3 rounds the first one being #49 this year and no first round pick next year. Lot's of holes to fill.

Mac is going to need that cap space.

Mathieu would have been a good signing, but......maybe he just didn't want to come to the Jets, maybe because Mac did his research and discovered that one of the reasons that the Birds thought he should have been willing to take a cut was because his many injuries were beginning to effect his game play, not that he wasn't still a great player, but he was slowing down. His best season was 2015 and his play has been declining since then so maybe they were thinking Revis 2.0. Maybe Mac thought addressing other position of needs was more important. Maybe some day he'll tell us why he passed on him. I doubt it but we'll get by and he's made mostly good moves so far so I'm going to trust him awhile longer.

Vinny Curry or Jonathan Hankins anyone? They would be two nice signings that would shore up holes in our Defense.

Hankins could be a good fit. He might be the best we've had in the middle since Snacks.

I just read an interesting article about the Bridgewater signing. It said that he passed his physical with no problems and as a result his contract was changed from 5 Mil to 6 Mil. Has anyone else seen or heard anything to that effect ? I don't have a problem with that it just makes me wonder if I should read anything into it.

Jets CEO isn’t meddling in quarterback search

848751396-e1514982200900.jpg

When Browns owner Jimmy Haslam turned up at Southern Cal quarterback Sam Darnold‘s pro day workout yesterday, it sparked reasonable concerns about his level of involvement in a process his team hasn’t previously gotten right under his leadership.

At least the Jets don’t have to worry about that as they search for the same kind of answer at the position.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Jets CEO and chairman Christopher Johnson is not accompanying the team’s football decision-makers as they make the rounds of private workouts with the top four quarterbacks in the draft — Darnold, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, and Baker Mayfield.

The Jets have already traded up to the third overall selection, where they should be able to land a quarterback — or the top player at another position.

Johnson, who took the reins of the team from his brother after Woody Johnson was named ambassador to the United Kingdom, apparently had scheduling issues which prevented him from making the trips. And if he isn’t going to make all of them, it’s better not to turn up at any, since it would be interpreted as interest or a preference.

By Haslam making himself visible yesterday — he was seen chatting with Darnold’s family in the stands — it helps create the impression that the Browns may have a preference for Darnold, whether that’s the case or not.

The Jets have fallen into this trap before. Woody Johnson attended the team’s predraft workout and dinner with quarterback Mark Sanchez in 2009, accompanying coach Rex Ryan and General Manager Mike Tannenbaum, before they traded up to take Sanchez fifth overall.

Giants traded Jason Pierre Paul to the Buc's. Might they take Chubb with 2nd overall pick.

the word is GIants are converting to a 3-4 defense, made JPP expendable... Chubb is a 43 DE, so probably not...

they got a good deal from TB, JPP & 4th for a 3rd & 4th pick...

wonder if there will be another trades by the Giants...

Marcus Davenport could be in play here for the Giants but he is slated to be drafted in the teens making a trade down from No. 2 pick more possible...
