Bowles should take note

Elias, MaineJet is harmless. Just blowing off steam. We all at one time or another make dumb remarks that later on we regret.

Elias is right where someone may not attack you or it does not bother you it may bother others. We are not in attack mode on here

I dont care about the other coaches. I care about who coaches the Jets and I think an upgrade is warranted. He's our coach and I will support him but his conservative playcalling is an issue. The league has passed him by. You need to be pass happy and aggressive.

I can see your point but I don't see many upgrades from the other 30 coaches to TB. Maybe BA might have gone for some of those plays but he is retired. from what I saw from most playoff coaches this year......not much out there

I fundamentally agree that Bowles needs to up his game - but he needs players. We can say that 2106 was a failure, and it was. Now Bowles owns a lot of that, but not all of it. He also deserves credit for the strides the team made last year. And, the younger talent is starting to develop nicely. This year's draft and FA are very important for this organization. They have money to spend. There are young, talented players out there in free agency at positions of need, so we won't necessarily be bringing in players that are past their primes. And we have a number of draft picks in good slots each round. This roster can be dramatically improved this offseason. It starts with the QB obviously.

In terms of the offensive play calling, scheme, pass vs. run, etc., yes it is a "passing league." But the best offenses in the league can still run the ball very effectively. The Eagles ran the ball very well this year. So did the Patriots, the Rams, and even the Saints, perhaps the most pass happy team in the NFL had a tremendous running game. In my opinion, you need a balanced offense, with aggressive play calling. There is a line between being aggressive and foolish. And really depends on the flow of the game and your opponent.

With the Patriots, kicking field goals when you are in the red zone is a problem. You need to score TDs. You might need to go for it on 4th down more often in 4th short situations to keep the ball out of Brady's hands - something Philly did really well. Rex had the same philosophy. This is where Bowles can improve - coaching to win the game, not trying not to lose it.

I also agree that I thought Morton did a pretty credible job last year. We were running in part at least the Saints offense, which is not a bad scheme to replicate. Hopefully Bates will be a great play caller and we will finally have a permanent offensive coordinator here. He's well respected around the league apparently for his acumen, and is considered a great QB coach. So we'll see what happens.

To sum up - critical year for Bowles and Mac in FA and the draft. And I agree that this team needs to take the next step, win more games and make it to the playoffs. If they can do that, then the foundation has been laid and this team can consistently compete over the next 4-5 years. They're not that far off. They just need to make all the right moves this offseason, and Bowles needs to grow a little more as a HC. I am optimistic that he can. As I said, Parcells thinks highly of him, and so does Arians. That's good enough for me.

I agree. Most of the time we don't like what we have but in truth there usually isn't someone better out there that is available or would come here. Once belichick quits or is fired then there is someone, but right now there is not. I just hope we tell him he can't cheat. I don't want to be the cheatah2.0

hey, don't leave out gibbs.. he as well, once upon a time, said super nice things about our HC as well!!

thing is, none of them have any skin in this game.. not one of them.. so at the end of the day, they are just talking up one of their guys.. how much bowles may or may not continues to shit the bed, is no real reflection on them..

I disagree a bit Jetgreen. Parcells in particular is not one to offer praise very often.

Arians and Bowles are close so I would expect he would have good things to say about him. But I believe his praise for his acumen is sincere. When Bowles had talented players in Arizona that defense was dominant. And, even when they battled injuries and he had to mix and match lineups, they were still very tough. I know Gibbs said good things about him too, but I don't recall the specifics.

They may not have skin in the game, but I believe they would fairly assess his capabilities to be a head coach in the league.

Bowles has dealt with a lot here. I wish this fanbase could just exercise some patience. I understand everyone's frustrations and share them. But it takes time for a coordinator to become a really good head coach. Even legendary coaches like Belichick, Parcells, and Bill Walsh all struggled early in their careers. Look up their records. It's not pretty. It takes time to build a team. That's why I believe Chris Johnson wants to keep him on board.

Listen, if this team doesn't improve this season (barring significant injuries because that's an unknown - see the Texans), then I'll be the first to say, the clock is running out. But for now, I'm willing to be patient and let this season play out.

Everyone agrees that it takes time to build a team, what's not clear is how much time should a HC be given. That argument seems to vary widely anywhere from 1-10 years depending on individual opinion.

BTW...only one of those guys you mentioned qualifies as struggling early in his career. Parcells went to the play-offs in his 2nd season and won the SB in his 4th season. Walsh was a super bowl champion in his 3rd season.

Belichick had to wait for Brady to come along and teach him how to cheat.

i don't care about the other HCs either..

bowles will never, ever, be pass happy.. hell, he's not even aggressive on his side of the ball with almost all of the teams top draft picks & talent..

but at the end of the day, this is on the johnson's.. why hire & extend an unimaginative, uninspired, stubborn, cowardly, emotion detached defensive HC in a league that's been pass happy 15+ years running??

Im with you JetGreen. I just wonder if he;s that way because we lack passrushers? I remember his first year, he was aggressive and blitzed more than any team for a while. his blitzes werent working but that could be an issue. At least I hope so. One of the best times was in 2010 when all of Rex's blitzes work. Now, we're lucky if we can put a hand on a qb

We know Boles didn't take notice. He couldn't see the game. His head is so far up his arse that his eyes were blocked. Even unblocked, I'm not sure he would break from his ultra conservative shell and recognize innovative coaching.

how would you describe what a lot of jet fans feel about him after 3 seasons as our HC??

& how many years does bowles gets to get "players," when his side of the ball continues to get 1st rounders??

& what chance, if any, that bowles didn't campaigned for williams, lee & adams??

& how many years does bowles gets to get "players," when his side of the ball continues to get 1st rounders?? His side of the ball????? I thought he was the HC not the GM or DC??? Look at the QB's he has had to work with? Plus he had to put up with Marshall...that would drive me to drink:global (7):

I don't know for some reason they did not invite me:global (37):

Look I am not saying he has done as well as I have thought he would by now. I would fire him after this year If If If If he has the talent to do better & fails. He needs time to grow also. The last three years have given him time for that. Many AZ fans witch jet games I get the feeling that they feel the team is to blame as they want him back. That being said a very good DC does not mean that he will be a good or great HC.

As far as the SB this year..... that is the way I would coach but let's go back to Weeb. They went against a top O & with a ball control type of game & won. I know it is a another date & time but there are more than one way to skin a cat..................

The new Cardinals coach looks great in the showroom.....he may need a year or two for a test drive before we know for sure but they also have a very good GM & Owner plus Larry (I hope). Time will tell

The Jets do put a hand on the QB, it's called a pat on the back coupled with a congratulatory handshake after the game. When our HC and QB tell him what a great game they had in beating us.
Brady just shakes hands when he wins.

i know why scotch has gone to bat for bowles, that's his guy..

what baffles me is when folks say we need to wait for bowles to get some players.. under bowles' watch, we've drafted three defensive players in the first round & one in the 2nd.. yet in year three, a ragtag group on offense soundly outplays the defense.. oh yeah, we're on our third OC (so much for #continuity) & not only does rogers still have his job, we signed his kid who just so happens to be a safety of all things?! maybe i've just been missing those same people calling for maccagnan's firing?? it's certainly possible but unlikely.. this is a small but active group.. but i do post & read full threads at JFU often..
