MOBILE, Ala. — The Jets on Tuesday made it official: Chan Gailey has been hired as the team's offensive coordinator.
Gailey, the former Cowboys, Georgia Tech, and Bills head coach, had been pegged several days ago as the guy head coach Todd Bowles wanted for the job. On Monday, word trickled out that Gailey's hire was not a certainty. But then Gailey told NJ Advance Media's Darryl Slater he wanted the job but that the two sides were still negotiating.
Now it's a done deal.
Gailey also told Slater he didn't have much to say about quarterback Geno Smith, though he added he would "do what's best for the personnel that we have." Gailey's also been out of coaching since being fired by the Bills after the 2012 season, but he doesn't think that will hamper his ability to succeed as a coordinator.
Bowles was hired last week along with general manager Mike Maccagnan. The two are expected to meet the media on Wednesday. Bowles is also targeting former Dolphins defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers as his defensive coordinator.
Here are 10 things you need to know about Chan Gailey.
