working with a qb guru to overhaul his throwing motion. smh. I can’t beliebe how much we’ve mismanaged him. Not saying he’s good but to have his entire first year be a waste where no one on the staff can work with him is a disgrace. I’m still disgusted by Bowles/gailey.

I'm not sure why you think nobody worked with him. To be honest, I think this is more a case of him out of desperation looking to throw something against the wall and hoping it sticks.

What ever happened to the throwing motion he had as an underclassman when he was touted to be a "Possible #1 pick"?
Remember?
It was those "college coaching changes" and "talent level around him" that "caused him to alter his style because he was constantly under pressure".
And remember all the "We're working with him to correct the bad habits he had gotten into" articles?

Friends, he was WORKED WITH!!!

This is BS.
Either Mac and the Jets have been feeding us BS since the day Mac drafted Hack or
He never had talent to begin with, and Mac blew a #2 round pick and has been blowing smoke up our collectae rectae (you have my permission to use that) ever since.

I'm guessing, he was bad, they have been working with him, and it has been useless.
You can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit.
And I feel our intelligence has been insulted by this ongoing charade.

I recall reading that he has been working with 'Jordan Palmer' type QB gurus on footwork, etc. in the past two off-seasons. I have a feeling that is all about what is between the ears. I'm not saying he is dumb, but maybe he is one of these guys who get so beat up that they can't function in the heat of battle. Foot work is bad (accuracy issues) and decision making is bad. He certainly looks the part and probably when throwing in a controlled environment looks fine as well. In retrospect, he looks like a miserable pick a bust if you prefer. However, I don't completely blame MM for taking a shot. I think he saw what everyone else saw in Hack's freshman year, and figured with the right coaching that production could get coaxed back out of him again. Well either the coaching couldn't do it, or he is broken and perhaps unfixable. Remember, he did get the ever-living crap knocked out of him his last two years at PSU. He was clearly a bad fit for Franklin's scheme and the supporting cast was pretty bad. Excuses, perhaps, or maybe just context.

So you are saying the Jets drafted Hackenburg with a second rounder, and then nobody worked with him on his mechanics? I find that almost impossible to believe.

Crock of shit put out by Mac and Jets.
Just trying to save face that they wasted a second round pick.
i maybe stupid for purchasing season tickets for 48 years, but I'm not an idiot.
Well maybe my wife may disagree .

maybe so but here we are.. something clearly went horribly wrong with hackenberg's development or lack off it under the jets watch..

look, i was intrigued with the pick at the time.. but we are going into year 3 still waiting for his 1st regular NFL season snap that will never come in a jet uniform, even if he ever gets one period??

this has to be put on someone.. if the kid was this much of a trainwreck, this would still be on maccagnan.. what is, is..

I think they worked on the “mental” part of the game. I may be wrong. I’ll try to find the articles but I remember being pissed about. I think that may have been one of the first things I posted about on this board when I first started it lol

You are right, Elias. I distinctly remember posting about an article along these lines. The article quoted a member of the staff saying that the 1st year would focus on the mental side and the 2nd year on his mechanics. I felt then and now that this was an indictment of the coaching staff.

Please take a look at this article. http://www.espn.com/blog/new-york-j...ackenberg-cant-change-golfers-swing-in-season

It was written in his first year. the staff is quoted as saying that they wouldn’t work on his mechanics until his second year. “Can’t change a golfers swing mid season”

Is there not a worse coaching staff to develop a young qb than these incompetent fools that are on our staff? Smh.

Thank god Darnold is a little more polished than Hackenberg.

i remember hearing "we won't work on his "mechanics " until off season, year two stuff..

honestly i'm no longer worried about this regime, good or bad.. they either get in where they fit in, or they will inevitably GTFO shortly..

As I recall the quote being discussed came from an anonymous source on the staff. Let's hope that it,along with the "He can't throw the ball in the ocean" quote came from Gailey, not Bates.

It happened before the Jets' watch. He should never have been drafted that high. Franklin killed his career.

So that was before Bates. Gailey was OC and Patullo was QB coach. Neither of them are still around, so I do not see the correlation.

franklin should be ashamed of himself for what he did to the kids career..
but he didn't draft him in the 2nd round..
