Start Bridgewater or Darnold?

Two thoughts about the OL. Darnold is more likely to be able to make plays when the OL fails. Bridgewater got hurt when nobody touched him. I would guess Darnold is more durable. Second thought if you want to keep Teddy B so Darnold doesn't get killed, I would be all for letting Bridgewater be the sacrificial lamb.

So far Bridgewater looks pretty good on the run. Anybody can have a fluke injury too but you're right Darnold has more of a build that looks like he could take a beating. I'm assuming the 4 extra years of life make Teddy a little smarter for playing behind a cruddy line but that's just an assumption, I don't know its true

I can name a quarterback who I'd like to see get killed behind a lousy offensive line but his name isn't Sam or Teddy and he's not on our team either????

Yes, but Brady has enough time to make occasional deep throws. That's an important part of making the short game work.

He does. The thing is, the Pats haven't always had the most talented OL. They have an amazing OL coach who came back to them, and that has made a big difference.

Brady hates being hit. Loathes having pressure. That's how teams have beaten them in the past. When he is protected, he can pick apart a defense, mostly by making the right reads and progressions, and then putting the ball on the money.

and the line went down hill fast the 2 years scarnechia retired. That's why belichick brought him back. probably threatened his family or something;) Even then, though, he still had private work outs with the new lineman that were drafted while he was retired. watch what he does this year. bradys left tackle is on the Giants and the kid that was going to replace him, their first round pick just went out for the season. scarnechia will turn some unknown into a star and not miss a beat. I hope I eat these words

Just because someone questions someone does not mean that you dislike that person. I want to see the D man prove himself plus of Teddy is our answer lets not let him get away.

I get what you are saying. It seems like no one else does. Ct. Jet fans think alike:)

I was saying Baaaaa d in reference to the goat.
im in the same camp as you. I want Darnold to succeed, but I have to see alot more from him .
I don't get the urge to trade Teddy so fast either, IMO He is currently the best QB on the roster.

Brady also gets the ball out faster than any QB in the league. 2.49 seconds per play.
His avg time to sack was 16th at 3.26 seconds.

That is huge. He makes reads ridiculously fast, and he almost always makes the right read. Physically, his release is quick, but even more impressive is his mental quickness.

I really hate the man, but have to credit the player. I keep reading how he has all day to throw, he's just good because he plays for Belichick but he deserves more credit. He is , as much as I hate to say it, one of the best QBs of all time

So if we DON'T trade Teddy and start him, at the end of the season he signs for the Patriots to coincide with Brady's retirement. And the guy who was Jets HC for a few hours stiffs us for the next 12 years with the guy who the Jets gave up a season to rehabilitate. How do you like THEM green tomatoes?

Or perhaps he crosses locker rooms to replace Eli and we spend the next ten years hearing about Bridgewater, Barkley and Beckham.

You'd have to pay me a shedload of money to make me sign a contract with the Jets when I could choose a Superbowl contender at the end of the season.

Even if we trade Teddy, he's a FA next season.
I'd be very surprised if he doesn't end up in Miami. His home town, former teammates from Louisville on the roster and Tannerhill is no lock to be there next year. It really seems like the most likely landing spot for him. In fact, the Dolphins are rumored to be one of the teams interested in trading for him.

If we trade him in the division it has to be for twice as many picks or twice as many players.

No chance we trade him in the Division. Unless Mac knows something about his knee no one else knows that won't show up during his physcial. Lol
But no matter who we trade him too. He is still a FA at the end of this season and Free to sigh wherever he's wanted, be it AFC, NFC, AFC EAST. Thanks was the point of my post.
Tannerhill wasn't very good Pre Injury, a long layoff , 21 months , isn't going to make him a better QB. Next year's draft class doesn't currently have any QBs being hyped. Teddy is a Miami native, has friends on the Team and several former teammates. No state income tax all make Miami Teddys logical choice and teddy would likely be the Dolphins first choice at QB.

Getting back to the question at hand, whether to start Darnold or Teddy. I think Teddy could probably win more games right away, so if you care about whether the team is around .500 or competing for a wild card this season, go with him. If you're more looking toward being ready to seriously compete in 2019 and beyond, let Darnold have his growing pains now.

There is one other factor to be considered. With a healthy, productive preseason, Teddy's value will be as high as it's going to get. Every regular season game you play him is a chance for something to happen to that bad knee.

It comes down to this for me: if we start Teddy, we might be a little better in the wins/losses category. This is presuming that Darnold will have the usual rookie moments. But anyone who’s honest about this roster has to admit that we’re not a serious playoff team. We could sneak into the playoffs if a lot of things go right, but nothing more than that.

If we go 7-9, 8-8, or 9-7 what’s the real benefit of that? We lose Bridgewater to FA when it’s clear that the future is all about Darnold. We probably miss the playoffs. Darnold doesn’t get valuable game experience. And we get the #15 overall draft pick instead of a top 7 pick.

I couldn’t have put this any better myself. I posted something very similar to this but this nails it. It’s all about what you or we want for this team as fans who’s opinion doesn’t matter. It only matters what the team (owner, GM and CS) sees the future for this franchise. It appears they may be headed towards Darnold.

Yeah because their opinions/visions have been so successful in the past.
