So many great choices. At this point because I know they won't be trading the #3 down, I don’t care which way the Jets go just as long as it’s the right decision. I personally wouldn’t want to be the GM because if he gets this wrong it’s going to be hell on wheels for him. I think if Allen is still available you can’t go wrong but if Q. Williams or Bosa is there also then what do you do? Perfect scenario would be if both of those other guys went 1 and 2, then the choice is easy but it will never be that easy will it!
If Q and Allen are on the board and Bosa is gone, I have to take Allen because he's a better scheme fit if we want to remain in a base 3-4. IMO you are limiting Q to a degree if you stick him in the 3-4. In the 4-3 he can do his thing and really get after the QB with an inside rush. Could be the next Aaron Donald, or close, in the 4-3.
But if we want to stay in a 3-4 the most important position, the one you CANNOT have a dominant defense without, is 3-4 RUSH OLB and IMO that is Allen's ideal position.
Now if it's Bosa and Allen, I know most fans would prefer Bosa, but IMO Bosa would be a better 4-3 DE than Allen and Allen would be a better 3-4 OLB than Bosa.
That said, I'd do everything in my power to leak that the Jets love Bosa, not Allen, because the Raiders play a base 4-3 and I believe they agree that Bosa is a better fit than Allen at 4-3 DE, more of a sure thing in the trenches because he's more powerful than Allen, while Allen is more athletic.
Anyway if I can convince the Raiders we're taking Bosa, I'd tell them we're wiling to swap picks, 3 and 4, provided they cough-up their 2nd RD Pick. With three 1's they might bite, because I believe Bosa is the player they would take if they had the #1 overall pick, he's that close to a sure thing to be a dominant 4-3 DE and they're still getting killed for trading Khalil Mack. If they bite, I'm confident they will take Bosa, then we take Allen at #4 and recoup that early 2 we lost for Darnold.
PS. If the Raiders don't bite then I have to take Allen, which will not be well received by a number of Jets fans with Bosa on the board, but again, I think Bosa is more of a sure thing at 4-3 DE and may not be quite as dominant at 3-4 OLB, while I believe the reverse is true of Allen ... but I'm not letting the Raiders know I feel that way. :global (42):
