The unofficial roster is set prior to the draft and nothing is cemented in stone but the roster looks to be competitive in many positions, take a look at what seems to be a better offensive line and if any additions for development should be addressed this draft or via trades...

Center: Jon Toth or Jonathan Harrison <<< Harrison played well when asked to step in as a starter but the contract he signed is no where what a salary for a starter would get in the open market, simply stating he has a chance but more than likely he will be the backup... As for Toth the jury is still out where he fits, but his pedigree gives him a slightly higher shot to earn the starting role unless the team is focusing on the draft or still seeking a free agent signing or possible trade at this point in time...

Tackle: Last season had to open many peoples eyes that Beachum can be a quality left tackle but his age is against him... After Carpenter was placed on IR and Long was moved to guard showed that with a capable option at guard Beachum was capable of manning that left tackle position... But with that said his age and slight deterioration due to injuries over his career he may have two to three solid year left even tho he is currently in his contract year... Depth behind him is minimal based on talent margin, and there is no developmental option currently on the roster... As for his counterpart Brandon Shell looks to earned the respect and deserves to remain the starter for the foreseeable future...

Guard: With the cut bait cap casualty move of Spencer Long, Brian Winter and his new found counterpart Osemele will be intricate interior presence for our line and sophomore QB Sam Darnold... The free agency move to bring in veteran Tom Compton should be a plus...

We have no 2nd Rd pick and that puts us in a bind. If we can package D. Lee and the Saints #3 pick we acquired to move into the early part of Rd 2, we may be able to pick up a Center there.

Hi there gmf. Good to see you on line. I am in high hopes that they will add another center and left tackle in the draft. There isn't much available in free agency now that would be an upgrade over what we have right now. I have no idea about what kind of skill Jon Toth has as I have never seen him play but the fact that they didn't use him to replace Long makes me suspect that Harrison is considered better.

Toth is a tough, and was a four-year starter. Will appeal to teams looking for centers who can operate in a power-based rushing scheme (which the Jets just switched too)... While he's better in a phone booth than on the move, he understands his limitations and does a good job of staying within himself... He's not the best athlete at the position but his size, arm length, strength and consistency should outweigh that on the next level... Toth has the traits and ability to be an eventual starter in the NFL...

C: Toth is a project, and that project may eventually prove fruitful. Need to see more to view him as more than a project. Harrison is, in my view, best suited as a depth guy. I just don't know if he is what I want in front of such a valuable asset. I'd consider either drafting a C with one of the third rounders or, if the Jets were to deal down with the Redskins, trying to land Roullier in place of one of the draft picks. More needs to be done there.

G: I think the Jets are set. The depth was important because Winters is good when he's healthy, but he is seldom 100%. I wouldn't necessarily think any major moves or investment need to be made at guard for this year.

T: Beachum is absolutely fine as a blindside protector. He won't be there forever at his age, so the organization has a couple options. It can either bank on investing a first round LT in a couple years from now, or it could bring in a tackle with less than a first, but more like a second (which they don't have this year) or third this year or next, landing a project who can start immediately at RT but develop into a franchise LT. Shell is decent at RT. Still could solidify his spot a bit more. He'll never be a LT, but he could be the RT for several years. With that in mind, the first option may be preferable, using draft capital in a couple years to bring in a permanent LT answer for Sam's blindside.

Center: No option. Need to draft a quality Center.
Guard: Osemele coming off an injury and Winters always seems to be hurt.
LT: Beachum: Okay for now, Need to start looking for his replacement SOON.
RT: Shell can hold the fort if he too stays healthy.

I'd feel more confident about Osemele than Winters. Osemele just received a thorough physical before the trade was finalized.

G is back! I'm a little excited about Osemele. Hope we use our 3rd rounders to draft some more o line help. Hopefully some 2nd round talent that slips through to us

I don’t think Maccagnan is done addressing the Center position. I predict one will be drafted this year, as there are several of them in those 2-4 rounds worth the pick.

Guard looks set with Osemele and Winters, although not sure about depth. Dozier has moved on, and Ben Braden is an unknown.

We’re ok for another year of Beach/Shell. But I agree that the LT position is eventually going to need a more long term player. Not sure that happens in this draft, though. More likely next year. LT isn’t particularly strong in this draft.

Osemele and Center are my 2 biggest question marks. I don't consider Winters a question mark as I considered already that he will be hurt most of the season.I do agree that LT will or should be addressed next year.

If Andree Dillard is available to the Jets after 1st pick and they don't take him they should hide their heads in shame. He is the best LT to come out of college in the last 2 years, not because I say so, but because it's the opinion of evey scout out there. He's rated around 15 or 16 among all players in this years draft and is considered the #1 LT. Sam could write home to Mom before he throws the ball. If he's available to us we should by all means fill that position THIS YEAR.

Would he be able to eat a hotdog while writing home to mom? :)

I don’t doubt that Dillard is a good prospect, and a good young LT is definitely something the Jets should be thinking about. But you can put your entire life savings down on the fact that he will not be taken #3 by the Jets.

It’s about value. Assuming Maccagnan loves Dilliard as much as you do, he would need to trade down at least 5-6 spots to even consider that pick. You don’t pass on the players at the top of this draft (Q.Williams, Bosa, Allen) to take a player who’s not near that level. I have yet to see anyone put Dilliard in the same stratosphere as the top players in this draft.

I believe that you're correct, Brick, the Jets wouldn't take him at three and I wouldn't want them to pass up that edge guy if they stay at 3. What I'm saying is that if they trade down or find him still available after that first pick and they pass on him they should have their heads examined. I don't believe there is any chance, other than a trade down of 7 or less spots, that the Jets will even have a shot at him. I predict that he will go early in that first round sometime before the 15th pick.
