Reliable Source: Joe Douglas to the Jets is in a bag

Bruce Murray seems to hate the Jets, no idea why. Dominik is usually pretty insightful. He might just have been making a point about how important it is to have control of the 53. There's no evidence at all that Douglas isn't interviewing or withdrew. Same for the guy from Chicago. The Minnesota guy declined the interview, but that was yesterday.

Bruce Murray is admittedly a lifeling Giants fan, so...

Just went back and re-listened, it's right before they go to the 2p break. Hes not saying that Douglas has withdrawn officially. Hes mentioned guys that hes familiar with that are going to turn it down, then says Joe Douglas is hard to get a handle on but hes going to turn it down. He was sort of stuttering and mumbling through that part and it came about unannounced and surprised me, so I took it to be more concrete than it is, but hes definitely saying that in his opinion hes going to turn it down, and mentions that he'll get a GM job after saying it's not worth taking if you don't have control over the 53 as if that's a given.

It's his opinion. I'm sure if the Jets want him, they'll get him.
I really do think it's going to come down to convincing him he'll have real control. From what I've been hearing it's going to be a tough sell, flying in the face of decades of NFL experiences.

I think this is a good thing though - if reports are true, and if Douglas is hired, than hopefully he does have control and Gase can focus on Darnold and the O. Because if Gase has control, and can't focus on the QB/O, I think we're in trouble.

Yeah, I don't think this will be an issue, especially because he and Gase have worked together in the past.

Your such a PARTY POPPER TCT!!! Thanks Ham for the insight and hopefully this is the case!
Can't quote multiple posts anymore, but J82 it's all good, TCT likes to take a few good natured jabs every so often but it's not malicious, so I don't even mind it in the least, but thanks for the backup although in this case it wasn't needed. Me and TCT are cool and for sure me and you are cool too. :global (45):

Here's the clip, you can see how he was stuttering around it. Sorry to set off the alarms over 1 guy's opinion...

I never believe any radio personalities on topics like this, they are just professional gossips with big egos. They report whatever will grab a headline and get ratings, not necessarily verified sources.

Since Joe is in nj now getting ready for dinner, he's not withdrawn. I doubt he's just trying to get a free dinner.

The Sunday interview for Douglas is still on. Dominik must have got his wires crossed. Also how would Douglas know for sure that he won't have control of the 53 man roster, which he will have by the way, until they sit down at the interview and discuss everything ? Also I have heard from several sources that Douglas wants out of Philly. And lastly if he had withdrawn from consideration it would be all over the internet because reporters love it when the Jets get shafted. Look how long it took for them to jump on the Patton saying no to an interview. Lastly the Eagles have already hired his replacement, Andrew Berry.

this entire process to date seems unusual and odd - and even more so going forward with the coach & GM individually reporting to Chris Johnson - and while his unorthodox approach may surprise, he appears to be in a bit over his head and learning on the fly.

We know because the individual powers have to be listed when any nfl team requests to interview another team's employee. Depending on the authority being offered, a team may or may not be allowed to refuse the request.

Gase has already said that the GM will have control over the 53 man roster and he will stick to the coaching. That's why he accepted the interview. He doesn't know if the Jets will try to add stipulations to that power. But the real question yet to be determined, at the interview, is what the deal being offered actually is. What.will the contact be and all of those things that need to be hashed out in a meeting before he has enough info to make a decision on taking or refusing the offer. The fact that he accepted the interview tells us that he is interested and wants to see the deal being offered. And even though the powers are listed they are still negotiable as to the extent of the powers. So yes, he knows basically what authorities he will have which is why both he and the Eagles were good with the interview but he doesn't know yet what the package being offered actually is. That's why he is in NY today and will meet with the Jets tomorrow. I'm sure the Jets want him. I just hope they don't turn him off with some stupid contract expectations. Many of us think it's a done deal but the truth of the matter is it's not until the Jets lay their cards on the table and do it without unreasonable demands or expectations.

Unfortunately, many of us justifiably have little faith that Jets ownership will do the smart thing. In my opinion, often expressed on the Scout forum, the fan base has been tortured by inept ownership since Sonny Werblin left us. Also, I can see that the organizational structure would be a turn-off. Would love to be proven wrong.

Nah, I'm pretty happy with Gase and the attitude he brings. I think he will change the culture which might fail, but I think he will turn this around soon. We might still be 8-8, but I think we will take steps finally to turn this around.

I still think we suck. Fuck positivity!

Well the Douglas interview is over. Lets hope the Jets didn't muck it up. One to go and then we should get the results this week hopefully.
