Did the Jets make a mistake by hiring Adam Gase?

If we start 0-6 or worse then I would fire him and let Williams finish the season and then go get Kellen Moore from Dallas.

This discussion is more about whether or not it was a mistake to hire Gase to begin with...not so much about weather he should be fired. The Jets made their bed, now they must sleep in it, good or bad, at least for a while. If the team shows improvement throughout the season, then Gase may be forgiven for his slow start.

However, if there is no improvement and no wins...then yes, the F word is perfectly acceptable in this case given the fact that Adam Gase doesn't really have a whole lot of positive head coaching experience behind him.

The team will win more in the second half of the season than they did in the first. I'm not sure that will be a matter of improvement as much as it is circumstances. Herndon's suspension, Darnold's illness, Mosley missing time, and a brutal first 6 games of the season made sure of that.

I'd argue that we don't do it that way. We kept both Rex and Bowles for years past when they should have been shit canned.
& if we extend this to GMs i would put maccagnan on the list as well..

i believe the real/unfixable problem is woody & woody's brother have almost no idea what the **** they're doing..

I think Christopher has been pretty solid. Woody is iffy, but the brother has been pretty solid.

Good point. I agree. Let me add Mike Tannenbaum, Dick Steinberg and Terry Bradway to your list.

pretty nice gap between iffy & pretty solid.. aside from not being stilted like his brother, i don't see it.. woody's brother would have shown me something if he got rid smartest guy in the room power structure that has never worked here.. not other places, BTW.. here..

i know you disagree, we have this mini debate about the johnsons every year & a half or so..

I have said for years that the culture of the team will never change until we have a new owner. Chris may be better than Woody as an owner, but the spirit of losing that permeates the organization will never be purged until the Johnsons are gone.
Unfortunately, that will probably not happen in my lifetime unless one of them dies before I do. They are 2 trust fund billionaires who love having a team since it raises their profile. They won't give that up any time soon...

I will go a step further and assert that if the new owners really wanted to put a stake in the heart of the malevolent spirit that seems to control the fate of the team, they would be advised to change the team's name as well... And yes, I really do mean that.

Great post. I have thought for many years that the best thing for the Jets would be to move the franchise to another city, ideally on the West Coast. That would also give me a great out as a Jet fan and allow me to follow another club. I can dream.

You have absolutely gone to far now. Someone else buying the team is fine by me but changing the name and moving out the city is to much. They just can do that, I hope not anyway!

Don't worry. It'll never happen. Just a demented fantasy of mine. I'm big talk, but would most likely still follow the team if they moved out. Guess I'm a masochist at heart.

I do agree that any reporting chain in which the head coach reports directly to the owner and not the GM is a flawed one. I still dislike that setup.

Well that’s the thing for me, if the Jets ever left NY-NJ, I don’t know if I could root for them anymore. I’d be so hurt I’d probably stop watching football all together or continue to watch football but just not have a team.

You could argue that for the last 50 years we have all not really been watching football. :Banane22:

Funny cause of you watch 2 other teams play a game and then you watch a Jet game, they really don't look the same at all. It always even seems like they use shitty video cameras for Jet games to match the shitty play like HD vs.SD

Yup. And historically we've always had the worst commentators covering our games. Not even the B team. More like D minus. I remember when Paul Maguire was the color guy for most of our games. The guy was the absolute biggest Jet hater on the planet.

LOLz yes he really was!!

remember during the 86 season when he predicted the jets would lose every week when they were on that huge winning streak??

truly one of the pioneers of national media hate/ridicule agenda of our jets..

I don't recall that specific time, but it does not surprise me at all. I friggin hated that POS. Took a shot at the team no matter how well we played. Probably some incident when he punted for the Bills. Hopefully, when he is no longer with us, Maguire will spend the entirety of his afterlife getting creamed on punts by Jet special teamers.
