6 positions only
1. TE: Lost faith in the durability of Herndon, granted he is a good possession receiver but not an all around true #1 at his position. Could he be, only if he would stay healthy and on the field... Ryan Griffin is what he is a stable all around aging #2 option... So starting with this position we need that true all around #1 Tight End a security blanket for any QB...
2. LT: When healthy Kelvin Beachum can be that guy, but it also depends if he has that interior Guard next to him that is capable of holding down his own job... Beachum seems always to be banged up every year never to the point of injured reserve but his age and injury concern is the concern, he could be a solid backup or swing moving forward... But protecting long term the blindside of any young QB should be the main goal...
3. OC: Like left tackle any relationship starts with man snapping the ball to any QB... The ability and trust that a QB has starts with that man not only setting the protection but is capable of snapping the ball and blocking... Jonnothan Harrison has Darnold's trust and he has done a good job to this point also under contract for next season would be a nice backup not only for the center position but the guard as well... Time to find that partner for Darnold to continue his develop as a QB...
4. WR: Demaryius Thomas is a nice possession option at receiver too bad he is up there in age... We thought we had someone that would be comparable to this type of relationship for Darnold his former college teammate and former Jet Deontay Burnett... He looked like he had Sam's confidence and looked to be a solid target but for whatever reason he was let go... The Jets need to find a young talent that can give that confidence like at DT moving forward, also expect DT to re-sign with the team after this season but still need another option to join this group...
5. CB: Bless Austin may be that gem of a prospect, with an injury laden past one would be worried but that is why any team would build depth... Blessaun has the athleticism needed for this position which makes him worthy of one spot... In the nickel we may have found exactly who we need for the next few years albeit if the team decides to sign Brian Poole to an extension... This leaves a door open for the other outside corner position... Nate Hairston is under contract and will be with the team next season but he is a spot starter not a full time guy... We need to be looking in free agency or the draft for that other guy... Someone to keep an eye out is Kendall Fuller who is 24 and will be a UFA this off season upcoming...
6: FB/H Back: Quincy Enunwa although he is a receiver had in the past played a role as a split end type option... Not always the sexiest of options but to stabilize any good rushing attack need a bruiser that can block and is capable of catching the ball... Trevon Wesco a good run blocking tight end is not the right fit for this job... Need someone a bit more dynamic to pull it off... Funny always thought maybe they would use Bilal Powell or Ty Montgomery in this role as both are capable not only blocking but rushing and receiving... There is a couple of options in free agency and a couple of solid prospects in this year's draft, if we want to stabilize the run game while help develop Sam, this is an option that has to be had...
