So lets say we could pick six positions to make the Jets as good team ..... as they say most teams are five

butterscotch

Jets/Cards

to six players away from being good....so since we are the Jets we need the six (these lists don't count depth except where we need more then one to make a position(s) good.)

1) LT
2) Guard
3) Center
4) CB
5 ) WR
6) Edge rusher

Ok to add to this list (As we need more to be a [playoff team)

7) CB
8) Another edge Rusher
9) Kicker
10) Another WR

Ok to be one of the best

11) RT
12) Inside rusher
13) OLB
14) K/p Returner

So we are close to being a good team (could do it in one year)

A playoff team looks like two years

A great team could be three years

This is thinking the D-man, Adams & bell will grow & return to form.

Now you can play around with the positions & guys like Austin etc could change the order but this is how I see it as of today.

I know I know I know A new HC

Now it does no take much to drop also.....I think we have seen it over the last 50 years...If Bell got old, Darnold keeps friends with the ghosts & Adams wants a new family all bets are off. If Ray Milland gets a raise & five more years....we could be in deep dog S____.

I guess I could have skipped my list & just said one thing......A New F________ Owner

Problem with the team is we need oline, edge, CB's, WR's....but we also have very little depth. Good teams can have guys go down and things look seamless in the transition to the #2. We dont have that in areas outside dline and ILB.

Let's face facts. Most of our oline would not be starters on another team. Other than Crowder (who is awesome in the slot) we dont have a WR 1 or WR 2. We seem to have depth at TE....CB's is a joke (bless may be good - time will tell) but we have no real starters and no depth on top of that.

To be real we need:
1. LT
2. RT
3. RG
4. LG
5. Center
6. 2 solid backups on oline that can play both the right and left sides
7. CB1
8. CB2
9. 2 CB's that are halfway decent backups
10. WR 1
11 WR 2
12 2 WR's that can be backups that are decent

When you add that up - to be a real contender we need 15 players added to this team. Take this to heart, if you look at the depth chart for the Patriots, Green Bay, 49r's, NO, Seatle, Pitt, Ravens....and you look at PFF grades across the team verse our current team the drop off is huge. If we are lucky this is a 2 year rebuild. And if Joe is smart next year the 8 pieces to focus on should be the following to maximize Sam's development.

1. 5 pieces on the oline draft/free agency
2. WR 1 - draft
3. WR 2 - FA
4. CB 1 - draft or FA

Then Year 2:
1. 2 backup oline
2. CB 2 & backups (2)
3. WR backups (2)
4. OLB (Tradeup in 2021 for this)

We can then be competitive in 2020 maybe make playoffs and certainly give Sam everything he needs to be successful - and in 2021 we can make a real run.

Wouldn't it make more sense to get the #1 WRs in Year 2? We can 't go out in Year 2 using our top picks to try to get backups. And what happened to the pass rusher that everyone wants?

We can play around with the positions because you never know when it is your time to pick who is there for the plucking. As faras back ups the 68 jets did not have what I call great backups due to 17 knee surgeries in 67. Talamini next to Namath, Snell, Herman & turner won us the SB. Without him we would have not won as a back up. Bake Turner, Mathis, & craine were the only solid backups on the team

6 positions only :worried:

1. TE: Lost faith in the durability of Herndon, granted he is a good possession receiver but not an all around true #1 at his position. Could he be, only if he would stay healthy and on the field... Ryan Griffin is what he is a stable all around aging #2 option... So starting with this position we need that true all around #1 Tight End a security blanket for any QB...

2. LT: When healthy Kelvin Beachum can be that guy, but it also depends if he has that interior Guard next to him that is capable of holding down his own job... Beachum seems always to be banged up every year never to the point of injured reserve but his age and injury concern is the concern, he could be a solid backup or swing moving forward... But protecting long term the blindside of any young QB should be the main goal...

3. OC: Like left tackle any relationship starts with man snapping the ball to any QB... The ability and trust that a QB has starts with that man not only setting the protection but is capable of snapping the ball and blocking... Jonnothan Harrison has Darnold's trust and he has done a good job to this point also under contract for next season would be a nice backup not only for the center position but the guard as well... Time to find that partner for Darnold to continue his develop as a QB...

4. WR: Demaryius Thomas is a nice possession option at receiver too bad he is up there in age... We thought we had someone that would be comparable to this type of relationship for Darnold his former college teammate and former Jet Deontay Burnett... He looked like he had Sam's confidence and looked to be a solid target but for whatever reason he was let go... The Jets need to find a young talent that can give that confidence like at DT moving forward, also expect DT to re-sign with the team after this season but still need another option to join this group...

5. CB: Bless Austin may be that gem of a prospect, with an injury laden past one would be worried but that is why any team would build depth... Blessaun has the athleticism needed for this position which makes him worthy of one spot... In the nickel we may have found exactly who we need for the next few years albeit if the team decides to sign Brian Poole to an extension... This leaves a door open for the other outside corner position... Nate Hairston is under contract and will be with the team next season but he is a spot starter not a full time guy... We need to be looking in free agency or the draft for that other guy... Someone to keep an eye out is Kendall Fuller who is 24 and will be a UFA this off season upcoming...

6: FB/H Back: Quincy Enunwa although he is a receiver had in the past played a role as a split end type option... Not always the sexiest of options but to stabilize any good rushing attack need a bruiser that can block and is capable of catching the ball... Trevon Wesco a good run blocking tight end is not the right fit for this job... Need someone a bit more dynamic to pull it off... Funny always thought maybe they would use Bilal Powell or Ty Montgomery in this role as both are capable not only blocking but rushing and receiving... There is a couple of options in free agency and a couple of solid prospects in this year's draft, if we want to stabilize the run game while help develop Sam, this is an option that has to be had...

As linc Hayes would say...…"Right On Man" The not so funny thing is most of the people you wrote about are often injured or old......what this shows us is we have the wrong guys on this team now in key positions......I know, I know The record shows this too. So we are fragile at best. This team really rests in the hands of our GM now & his team. we need like a 85 grade on our draft & FA pickups. Not going to be easy

That is putting it mildly butter. Joe has his work cut out for him, especially in this first draft. He wasn't left with a very solid frame to build this new ship on.

we need like a 85 grade on our draft

well it depends does the team go after a guy like Kristian Fulton from LSU in the 2nd round or Dane Jackson from Pittsburgh in the 5th round to be that other outside corner? so far we have scouted both, but scouts have taken three looks at Dane Jackson and only two on Fulton... Here is an eye opening stat for Dane Jackson (89.8 run-defense grade), nowadays can not find that type of run defender from the corner position, now it is better than his coverage grade (81.4 pass-defense grade)... Fulton excels in pass defense but is an average run defender... So why is Fulton a 2nd round pick and Dane only a 5th round? Perspective or hindsight is not 20/20 when it comes to talent it is about the divisions they play in college...

I would take Dane with our 5th round, why because he is fearless and like Bless Austin could be another gem of sleeper pick...

It is looking like we our putting ourselves out of the Andrew Thomas race for Left Tackle, thats okay though there are plenty of options in this draft like another USC OT in Austin Jackson (High Character Person/Player) (3rd/4th Round Prospect)...

If we miss out on the top three Centers in the draft maybe we go with a local guy in Matt Hennessy out of Temple, bringing in players that could conform to our pressing needs and solidify areas... If not mistaken Hennessy is a 4th round option...

Don't care on the grades of our awesome media cohorts but how they translate to the team...

I would be ecstatic to have a competitive roster rather than have the team spend on what ifs with the top picks...

1. EDGE Yetur Gross-Matos, Penn State
2. TE Jared Pinkney, Vanderbilt
3. LT Austin Jackson, USC
3. WR Antonio Gandy-Golden, Liberty
4. OC Matt Hennessy Temple
5. CB Dane Jackson Pitt
6. WR Jauan Jennings, Tennessee
7. PK Jet Toner, Stanford

Would be happy with this type of draft filling needs and elevating the overall of the team we have now...

TE that high as I don't follow college I will take your word on this pick but he must be a gronk?

So you would take the great Dane & let the Fish have the Fulton Market.. I just hope the great Dane is not the type of player that will dog it....we have enough of those already.

No one talks about the PK but we really do need one

That's a decent list G but it's possible that Andrew Thomas might be available to us and I'd prefer that. It all depends on what the teams before us are shopping for.

the point is on that occasion that a RB runs to the outside or a wide receiver screen is the play rather have a corner willing and able to tackle then try to pretend to trip the offensive player... Dane Jackson has stood out in pass defense but excels in run defense, that is the type of player we need here in New York...

I wasn't thinking that G necessarily meant in that order but if so, he'll clear this up for us I'm sure, I would take the LT first. I only saw Pinkney in a couple of games. He;s big, has good hands, and uses his body some to keep defenders away from the ball. The only negative I remember was that YAC was quite low. I could be wrong as I haven't scouted as much as usual this year.
