"I want to see the Jets win, but for the sake of the draft selection, i wouldn't cry if we lost"...seems to be the sentiment of most here, and we are most likely a microcosm of Jet Nation, so it would seem that sentiment is widely supported for those who bleed green and white.
I could be way off, and the charts might direct coaches to call what they call, but after a few 4th downs in which we went for it, be it a score or a first, it dawned on me that at the same time we could have been going for a Blowout Win, we might have been allowing JAX to "earn a win".
i am pretty certain we passed up at least 2 field goals, and given the tumultuous kicking game we have had this year, i can see why.
* if we make the 4th down conversions, they likely lead to a blowout.
* by forgoing the field goals, and not making the conversions, we allow JAX to stay within 1 score.
if intended, it is a very shrewd strategy: Nobody can say we laid down...we went for it all, and let the players go for the gusto giving it everything they had to win in convincing fashion . But if we came up short, and they took advantage, well, a higher pick isn't the end of the world either; is it?
