Strategy: Playing to Win or Laying Down for The Draft

"I want to see the Jets win, but for the sake of the draft selection, i wouldn't cry if we lost"...seems to be the sentiment of most here, and we are most likely a microcosm of Jet Nation, so it would seem that sentiment is widely supported for those who bleed green and white.

I could be way off, and the charts might direct coaches to call what they call, but after a few 4th downs in which we went for it, be it a score or a first, it dawned on me that at the same time we could have been going for a Blowout Win, we might have been allowing JAX to "earn a win".

i am pretty certain we passed up at least 2 field goals, and given the tumultuous kicking game we have had this year, i can see why.

* if we make the 4th down conversions, they likely lead to a blowout.
* by forgoing the field goals, and not making the conversions, we allow JAX to stay within 1 score.

if intended, it is a very shrewd strategy: Nobody can say we laid down...we went for it all, and let the players go for the gusto giving it everything they had to win in convincing fashion . But if we came up short, and they took advantage, well, a higher pick isn't the end of the world either; is it?

I wish we lost only because Wilson did what he needed to. Carter looked great. A loss would have helped our position and gave us way more options. Especially staying close to the Lions since they might win one more and I don't think we will. I don't know if any player is a generational talent so it probably didnt matter. If we were going to win a game I wanted it to be TB or Bills not a HS team that has clearly quit. #2 pick looks way better to me than saying we barely beat the Jags.

I’m entirely grateful that I don’t have to make the picks in this up coming draft . There are too many players at the top of this 1st round that have the possibility of being perennial all pros or straight up bust . The vast majority of them happened to be at positions of need for our Jets .
what we need to do is examine the tapes and identify the prospects who enjoy playing football and give that extra effort .

I for one enjoyed the living daylights out of that win.......be damned draft position. that being said, a collapse at the end would've hurt a little less but to just go to 3 instead of 4.....meh

me too...i was cheering as if a playoff berth depended on it, and admittedly frustrated for not "taking the points"- 2 chip shots, and it's an 11 point game.

that's when i started thinking they are playing to win by "going for" the firsts or scores "but" also leaving the door open to a single score game that could have led to a loss.

which, if planned, was a clever strategy.

I was pleasantly surprised to see not only the Jets win, but we remained at the moment still drafting at #4. Is that so, because we moved down with Seattle's pick due to their loss yesterday.
We finish the season with Tampa Bay and Buffalo I believe. Let Wilson play good no matter the outcome. We got some developing ballers in that backfield!!

Win always, no question, no doubt. No player or coach that made it to this level could even think otherwise despite what Jacksonville looked like it did at the end of yesterday's match.

So, who's glad to have rooted for all those losses to get Darnold?

Sure I wanted Jax to win. I was happy the way Berrios played (103 yd KO return). QB Wilson No interceptions, 52 yd scamper score, 92 yds rushing. RB Carter 118 yds rushing. It was only Jax, but certain players got the PUSH they needed.

I didn't want to start a new thread about Berrios, but what is the general consensus on him? I think he is a great KR, but not a WR you want being your starter. In today's game having a guy that can flip field position is almost non existent, but still something that I feel is a weapon. Whats he worth paying since he basically plays 3 position part time?

i didn't say "I miss Crowder" once yesterday. (a.) why does he have to be part time as a WR when his QB feels comfortable with him in the game? (b.) i am fairly certain that he knows or will come to a realistic figure he will accept as a "you got me" figure.

20 million for 5 years isn't breaking our bank, and it's more than he ever thought possible for himself.

Let’s not get it twisted. I want another receiver( Jameson Williams) to pair with Moore with Davis and Berrios and maybe Mims if he ever gets it out of his butt . I would like to see Davis finish out his contract here so we don’t end up with dead money on our cap and have to pay another receiver.

A...FREAKIN'...MEN.

if nothing else, finish the contract as a contributing part of our offense to stop the bleeding of high priced FA's who do not live up to the hype.

i am pulling for Davis; i really am. He seems like a good guy who gives it his all. i never bring up $$$ when a player gives that; it's not his fault we overpaid, but when a player is a dead weight and dead money, that is a double stab in the back!

I believe Crowder is done here also. I also like Davis as a #2 and Moore in the slot. A lot of folks see Moore as a 1, but I don’t. Plus, in the Lafluer scheme, the slot is really your number 1 guy. I see Moore being used like Edelman was in NE. Hell, I didn’t event know who their other receivers were ….. (except Gronk at TE)

different beast
Jameson is not polished like Dotson and Jahan with Elijah would give LaFleur a trio of specific game plans to make with those three...

I see Berrios as our possible Edelman...he got jacked to fit the part of that WR and also as a returner.
I see an ensemble cast at WR in LaFleur's design so a #1 cannot be taken away.
I see a favorable comparison for Moore to Brandin Cooks...way more dynamic than Edelman or Welker.

Jameson Williams, Jahan Dotson and Moore would not be a bad WR Corp. Davis, Berrios, Mims bringing up the rear.

Corey Davis is going to start, he brings height to the position, along with a receiving tight end...
Elijah Moore brings flexibility, if they draft a guy they need him to be comparable to Moore...

Bring back Berrios with Denzel Mims they will be able to go with DJ Montgomery or a FA with the three starters...
