Zach compared to the other young star/superstar QBs

1. The 2nd overall pick should be pro ready and Wilson clearly wasn't.

This was the major reason why I didn’t want Zach Wilson . The way the season played out, I believed that I may have been a bit wrong in my analysis.

IMO, no first year QB is ready to be a starter, but some flourish right away. there are many factors that go into that...

1.) a good to great OLine... before the Dr. got here, ours was a piece of swiss cheese, and GVT was routinely not covering assigned gaps.
2.) a good to great running game... this goes back to #1, and also the RB's all being new to the system.
3.) good to great production at WR... our corps led the league in drop percentage & none caught anything not placed in their hands.
4.) safety blanket at TE... their woes speak for themselves.
5.) a D that gets off of the field on 3rd down to get extra possessions... they were ok but not elite at this.
6.) a D that gets turnovers... not good at all.
7.) a seasoned OC with know how to get the rookie off to a quick start... ML really came on at the end of the year, but he as a rook struggled at the start.

i completely get why Zach "wait and see'ers" feel the way they do... we've all been waiting for a FQB for a very long time who can overcome these obstacles. obviously, he didn't.

having said that, i got more and more impressed by him as he tried to be more of a system QB. 1-4 & 7 need the QB to play within the O for consistency & continuity. all of the special stuff will come in time, but the entire team needs to operate inside the box so we aren't reliant on outside the box magic.

3 of his final 5 games weren't of below 70 QB Rating...

Saints = 59.8.
Miami = 80.0.
Jax = 89.6.
Tampa = 89.7.
Buffalo = 66.0.

And it's insane to blame that 1-4 final 5 game record on Zach Wilson when A.) He had Tom Brady and the Buccaneers beat until our Defense wet the bed and how did he have a prayer vs. Buffalo when he was sacked 7-8x?

But speaking of QB Rating, 4 of his final 6 games were of at least 80+.

Philly = 83.9.
Miami = 80.0.
Jax = 89.6.
Tampa = 89.7.

4 out of his final 6 games were of QBRs of 80+ and he played good enough to end the season 4-2 but unfortunately his Defense, didn't.

ZW isn't innocent but it's not fair to blame Zach Wilson for Loses when it's a team game and our D ranked dead last in almost every statistical category known to mankind + all of his starters on Offense who missed a crazy amount of games. We went 2-14 in 2020 so pointing the finger @ a Rookie QB for loses is a little nuts.

Ok, 2 out of 5 games he was below a 70 qb rating. But his qb rating in the last 5 games was 82.5 with a completion percentage of 51.4% and only 3 touchdown passes. A 2021 and probably 2022, a QB rating in the 80s just doesn't cut it. The top 19 starters were at least 90 last season.

I'm not blaming Wilson for anything and I know the Jets have a lot of things to fix. But I expect Wilson to be a guy who can take over a game. And down the stretch, he wasn't even close to being that guy. But he's only played one season. So maybe he'll start being that guy next season. Like I said earlier, it's too early to write him off.

If that were the case you wouldn't have literally jumped down my throat and all because I was fired up about about and considered Zach Wilson's TD run (which became the longest QB run in Franchise history) as being "electric". You immediately began to mock me and correct me in order to prove just how wrong I truly was (for enjoying his playmaking play) and you rained on my parade (which really, pissed me off dude).

And then weeks later during his 2021 highlights video thread you immediately ignored and overlooked his awesome plays but instead asked how long would his crappy lowlight videos of been.

How are these examples of being equally as hopeful as you were with Sam Darnold?



So basically you're saying that you're taking Sam Darnold for busting out on Zach Wilson? That's not fair to Zach Wilson or any of our fan base man.



Why? Sam Darnold is your #1 reason for being critical of Zach Wilson but yet you now find it wrong for others to talk about Sam Darnold going 4-7 overall, 243/406 (59.9%), 9 TDs/13 INTs, 9 Fumbles (4 lost), 17 Turnovers (despite only 12 games) and a QB Rating of only 71.9 and as a 4th year QB too?

I was once a fan of Sam Darnold too but I'll never let that make me cloud my judgment on how special Zach Wilson's talentes truly are. I see Josh Allen 2.0. And this is coming from someone who wanted nothing to do with him after losing out on Trevor Lawrence. I was pissed at him for holding out too. But then came the preseason and 2021's regular season and I immediately became a big time fan and longterm believer in him.

And Sam Darnold (like Jamal Adams) will always be apart of Jets Football talk moving forward. And why wouldn't they be? Joe Douglas getting two 1st round picks, a 2nd round pick and a 4th round pick for Jamal Adams/Sam Darnold could become Franchise Altering and a testament to how great of an NFL GM Joe Douglas could truly be becoming.

Because with those 4 picks? One has already turned into an All-Rookie LG (Alijah Vera-Tucker) and he's still got another 3 picks remaining (1st, 2nd, 4th);

Which is abdolute proof that JD hasn't even began to scratch the surface of his longterm plan to rebuild and Re-Vamp his roster.

I like you TCT. I really do. I even had to take you off of ignore because I found it stupid of me for not wanting to talk Football with you anymore and all because of "Sam Darnold vs. Zach Wilson". That's stupid to me. Because I can tell that you're a good person, a longtime suffering but yet passionate Jets fan and also a true Football student of this game (the kids you've coached out in Texas is impressive to me) and more importantly; you're a big part of JFUs small community which is full of more quality than quantity and therefore I hope that the both of us get to one day celebrate the Jets winning while also enjoying other topics of discussion outside of "Zach Wilson vs. Sam Darnold". I think you have taken things way too seriously. People on this site have known me as being the pessimistic one. I will find faults in every single player on the Jets. You somehow think I'm attacking you when I say things about Wilson. I still don't think his run was electric. I liked how he lulled some very lazy quitters into thinking he was going out of bounds.

As far as Joe Douglas goes, he better hit home runs on this draft. I believe he has the ability to change the franchise.

• Jamison Crowder = 5 games missed @ WR.
• Keelan Cole = 2 games missed @ WR.
• Michael Carter = 3 games missed @ RB.
• Telvin Coleman = 6 games missed @ RB.
• Braxton Berrios = 1 game missed @ WR.
• Tyler Kroft = 8 games missed @ TE.
• Daniel Brown = 5 games missed @ TE.
• Trevon Wesco = 5 games missed @ TE.
• Denzel Mims = 6 games missed/DNPs @ WR.

And unlike Sam Darnold, Zach Wilson faced the NFLs toughest Defensive schedule of any QB in the league.

I'm not seeing the resources that Zach Wilson was provided with but Sam Darnold wasn't?

Because they were both provided with crap.

Just because they were injured doesn't mean they weren't resources. Drafted AVT. Drafted Moore. Drafted Carter. Added Cole and Davis. All for Wilson. Darnold was given a washed up and over priced Bell. Lets not forget all the failed OL choices. He was given Adam fucking Gase. They drafted Becton and Mims for Darnold. Possibly two wasted picks. At the very least one. Who the two played doesn't matter since that had nothing to do with the what the Jets provided either of them. And in year two, they are giving Wilson all the toys needed to sink or swim. That was never done for Darnold. How can you even argue this?

BTW, I was just responding yto your post and said something in response about Darnold which was a fact.

I don't know man. In Carolina Sam Darnold had a healthy Christian McCaffrey for 7 games who destroyed our Jets, an electric Rookie RB Chuba Hubbard who's just as talented and good as Michael Carter, two pretty awesome WRs in Robby Anderson and D.J. Moore who both played all 17 games while behind a much better Carolina Defense than Zach Wilson's in NY but yet Sam Darnold still played atrocious (for a 4th year player with a boat load of experience).

Like I said. I don't know man. I think our boy Sam Darnold just stinks (and Carolina already knows it too).

Zach Wilson as a Rookie out played Sam Darnold as a 4th year veteran (statistically speaking).

I'm only speaking of his time with the Jets. What happened in Carolina doesn't matter when comparing Wilson to Darnold. My point is the Jets are all in with Wilson and they didn't do that with Darnold. Mainly because of ineptitude of the Jets organization. My hope is they give Wilson everything he needs to grow. Like I have always said Darnold got a raw deal while in NY. It would have been impossible for any QB to succeed. Lets just concentrate on what they do for Wilson. I'm tired of the Jets fucking up QB's.

• Drafted into a crap 2-14 team.

• Brand new coaching staff with Rookie HC/OC.

• Supposed Franchise LT missed the entire season.

• Played QB behind a makeshift O-Line.

• One too many key Offensive Starters missed (multiple games).

• #1 and most difficult Defensive Schedule of any QB in the league.

• Provided with the same potential Bust WR Denzel Mims who Sam got.

He shouldn't have even played to begin with. It was criminal to throw him into that type of deadly fire. They should've Joe Montana, Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes'd him and let him learn and develop from the sidelines as a Rookie.

Mims was drafted for Darnold. Mims was replaced for Wilson. Wilson got a rookie HC/OC, but damn he didn't get Adam Gase. The injuries are actually when Wilson played the best. And yes he was drafted into a crap 2-14 team, but from day 1 JD went all in for Wilson. This is a good thing. Wilson had a makeshift OL, but Fant stepped in and played better than he did the year before at RT for Darnold. They drafted a stud LG. Kept a center that was in year two with the Jets. Darnold had 3 different centers. They replaced GVR. Wilson has been given more. Thats not a bad thing. Its just a fact and I'm glad JD is doing that for Wilson. Its about damn time a Jets QB gets some support. I'm glad Wilson played. Now we know where we are starting from this year.
