I am just reading the tea leaves, folks. If you look at the roster you can assume who is going to produce and where. Jordan Whitehead plays in the box off the line about seven yards traditionally still in the box. He plays in the seam against slot receivers and tight ends but patrols up to the line of scrimmage defending the screen passes and outside runs. He shoots the gaps as a linebacker would helping defending the 'B' gap. This role was once Kam Chancellor's role. One thing Jordan Whitehead brings is championship caliber, is he leader, yes and no. He is still young and still gaining experience but he did play for our former Head Coach and became a vocal leader on the Buccaneers roster, does he need to be a leader here, no. He just needs to be the glue.
As for Quincy Williams like he said he talked to Saleh about his finishing technique where last year he looked to lay the boom rather than tackle wrap up and finish the play. Quincy understands he has missed tackles which hurt the team. Q W also knows he has the range to be that coverage or rush linebacker. He cleans up his technique skies the limit. CJ Mosley like Quincy has holes in his game when it comes to pass coverage as he lost a step against many tight ends last year. Reasons why they offered GTD to DQ Thomas because he is a traditional coverage linebacker in the size of a safety. Nasirildeen should see more role snaps on defense this year. Sherwood should eventually be healthy and contribute. Marcell Harris will be a key at linebacker either outside roles. Questions remain does Del'Shawn Philips see the active roster or practice squad? Kai Nauca and Javin White are both DB/LB can play safety or linebacker.
Safety room is deep, we have potential. They want a leader which this year will be Joyner if he stays healthy. No. 2 behind Joyner is Whitehead reason why I said he is the glue. After those two, Jason Pinnock, Ashtyn Davis, & Will Parks looks like locks. Question about Tony Adams role, but also see Elijah Riley making the practice squad. With our top three corners locked in, could see Michael Carter II taking snaps at safety. Javelin Guidry is in a fight for his role on the active 53 could land on the practice squad which means another team could poach him. Rachad Wildgoose, Isaiah Dunn are both also fighting for a chance at the practice squad. We have talent, but not enough active roster spots available to keep all of them.
So the question begs this who is Active 53, who gets practice squad spots and who gets their papers to free agency?
