Six games ago, one Nate Herbig quietly was inserted into the Jets’ starting lineup at right guard, after injuries caused them to rearrange their front five.
This is how Herbig, a 24-year-old from Hawaii, does things.
Quietly.
His impact as a Jet has been anything but.

Love Herbig. Read a good evaluation on him when JD signed him earlier this season. It said this guy is a starter in this league. Looks like that evaluation was correct. He deserves to be a long term starter. I think AVT will be a tackle for the Jets in the future.

AVT at LT would solve a huge problem. Mitchell at RT. Herbig at RG. Tomlinson at LG. Draft a center, but extend McGovern. Thats a pretty good OL.

Gotta go with this. This works for me. Being that Becton can’t seem to stay healthy. We need to move on from him.

Becton is not a back up. He’s a out right starter and a impact player. A superstar in fact, just like AVT. Becton just can’t stay healthy. That’s his problem!
Once upon a time the Panthers drafted a linebacker outta Georgia who had suffered a major knee injury in college . During his first few seasons, he suffered multiple knee injuries to both his knees . The Panthers kept that player around and when he retired he was a borderline HOFer .

I say all that to say this, I’m not ready to give up on Becton.

No need to give up on him, but he can not be in the plans going forward.

When Becton was drafted. Adam Gase was the head coach. And since, Gase was replaced with Saleh who has a zone blocking scheme. Becton at 363 lbs does not fit into a zone scheme anywhere. Becton needs to be around 330 lbs IMO.

During the last off-season, reporters and beat writers were reporting that he was pushing 400 lbs only to be rebuked by many including @gmf1369. After seeing his first camp practice pictures, including the one in the parking lot where he enters the facility looking slim but looking like he's wearing either a girdle or spanx, I believe the reports that he was pushing 400 pounds. If he has a similar off-season, he will eat himself off of the Jets and possibly out of the NFL. In fact, he might've been in the 370s on day one of last year's camp.

Next off-season, he needs to come into camp at 350 and maybe he can get down to 340 by season start. If he doesn't show progress by the end of the season or perhaps around the time of the draft, the Jets would have to look for his long-term replacement. This doesn't mean the Jets are giving up on him but his role will no longer be safe.

Bottom line, the Jets have changed since Becton was drafted. And Becton did the opposite of trying to fit in to what the team is doing.

I defended Becton until this last injury. The guy is made of toothpicks. He’s unreliable. If he can somehow break through next season and come to camp in shape and ready to go, great.

But I’m not counting on it.

Joe Douglas is not going to give up on Becton but expect them to try to kick him inside especially how well AVT played at tackle!!!

The road grader type player he is, also is capable of moving on the run. So a pulling guard next to AVT on the right side is possible option. Re-sign Herbig and play him at Center is an option moving forward. Is Laken here long term who knows but expect them to use a 3rd round pick on an IOL to be his heir apparent. Mitchell will spend the off season gaining muscle mass, especially in his girth and with his athleticism get a real shot to be our starting left tackle next year.

AVT back at LG. Tomlinson has been up and down this year. Either sign an elite LT and Center in FA or Draft both . We're stuck with Tomlinson contract for another year.

He's 6'7". Maybe at center he would have difficulty maintaining pad level?
