AVT at LT would solve a huge problem. Mitchell at RT. Herbig at RG. Tomlinson at LG. Draft a center, but extend McGovern. Thats a pretty good OL.Love Herbig. Read a good evaluation on him when JD signed him earlier this season. It said this guy is a starter in this league. Looks like that evaluation was correct. He deserves to be a long term starter. I think AVT will be a tackle for the Jets in the future.
Gotta go with this. This works for me. Being that Becton can’t seem to stay healthy. We need to move on from him.AVT at LT would solve a huge problem. Mitchell at RT. Herbig at RG. Tomlinson at LG. Draft a center, but extend McGovern. Thats a pretty good OL.
This season alone should tell you that capable backups are a necessityAVT at LT would solve a huge problem. Mitchell at RT. Herbig at RG. Tomlinson at LG. Draft a center, but extend McGovern. Thats a pretty good OL.
Becton as a backup. Brown as a backup. This season alone should tell you that capable backups are a necessity
Becton is not a back up. He’s a out right starter and a impact player. A superstar in fact, just like AVT. Becton just can’t stay healthy. That’s his problem!Becton as a backup. Brown as a backup.
Once upon a time the Panthers drafted a linebacker outta Georgia who had suffered a major knee injury in college . During his first few seasons, he suffered multiple knee injuries to both his knees . The Panthers kept that player around and when he retired he was a borderline HOFer .Becton is not a back up. He’s a out right starter and a impact player. A superstar in fact, just like AVT. No need to give up on him, but he can not be in the plans going forward.Once upon a time the Panthers drafted a linebacker outta Georgia who had suffered a major knee injury in college . I say all that to say this, I’m not ready to give up on Becton.
When Becton was drafted. Adam Gase was the head coach. And since, Gase was replaced with Saleh who has a zone blocking scheme. Becton at 363 lbs does not fit into a zone scheme anywhere. Becton needs to be around 330 lbs IMO.Once upon a time the Panthers drafted a linebacker outta Georgia who had suffered a major knee injury in college . As starter is better if they are certain he can stay healthy but at least as a back up. He's just too damn good when he plays to let him go.Becton as a backup. Brown as a backup.
He's 6'7". Maybe at center he would have difficulty maintaining pad level?Joe Douglas is not going to give up on Becton but expect them to try to kick him inside especially how well AVT played at tackle!!!
The road grader type player he is, also is capable of moving on the run. So a pulling guard next to AVT on the right side is possible option. Re-sign Herbig and play him at Center is an option moving forward. Is Laken here long term who knows but expect them to use a 3rd round pick on an IOL to be his heir apparent. Mitchell will spend the off season gaining muscle mass, especially in his girth and with his athleticism get a real shot to be our starting left tackle next year.
& in this locker room (thankfully) that makes you stand out big time..When Becton was drafted. Adam Gase was the head coach. And since, Gase was replaced with Saleh who has a zone blocking scheme. Becton at 363 lbs does not fit into a zone scheme anywhere. Becton needs to be around 330 lbs IMO.
During the last off-season, reporters and beat writers were reporting that he was pushing 400 lbs only to be rebuked by many including @gmf1369. After seeing his first camp practice pictures, including the one in the parking lot where he enters the facility looking slim but looking like he's wearing either a girdle or spanx, I believe the reports that he was pushing 400 pounds. If he has a similar off-season, he will eat himself off of the Jets and possibly out of the NFL. In fact, he might've been in the 370s on day one of last year's camp.
Next off-season, he needs to come into camp at 350 and maybe he can get down to 340 by season start. If he doesn't show progress by the end of the season or perhaps around the time of the draft, the Jets would have to look for his long-term replacement. This doesn't mean the Jets are giving up on him but his role will no longer be safe.
Bottom line, the Jets have changed since Becton was drafted. And Becton did the opposite of trying to fit in to what the team is doing.
