Zach Wilson Benched: Jets QB Mike White Will Start Against Bears

Well, Mike White surprised me. I wasn’t optimistic about him, even facing a bad Bears team with their backup QB.

Credit where credit’s due. Kid had a day today. I’ll gladly be wrong in exchange for that performance, and a Jets win. He earned another start for sure.

White definitely surprised me as well. He looked like what they expected Zach to be. Not necessarily Zach but a QB that is a consistent game manager. Doesn’t mess it up and makes the easy reads and throws to keep the chains moving and put a few points on the board. Zach for whatever reason couldn’t do this and he may not get a chance to prove himself otherwise, if White keeps this up!

Lets face it. These players suck and so does the coaching staff. Let's fire the coaches and the GM and draft 53 new players. Oh wait I didn't just dream this win. Damn, maybe, just maybe, this rebuild, which is, I believe, about a year or two ahead of where I expected them to be right now is really coming to fruition. I'm quite pleased actually with their progress so far. Today's win was enjoyable even though I thought the defense and special teams was not quite up to snuff. Still missing some key tackles and the missed kick. Over all a good performance but they will need to be better from here on out.

At the end of the day Mike White beat a bad Bears defense. He made very few mistakes. His teammates love him. Zach Wilson might have a better arm, but he doesn't throw a better ball and thats more important. Zach Wilson can scramble better, but can't play from the pocket at all. I've watched Mike White play in 3 games. He had a single bad game, but still moved the offense. He got hurt vs the Colts but looked good in that game too. I think this offense is suited for Mike White's style and we have so many weapons this year vs last year. A few of us have doubted Wilson from day one. I have more confidence in Mike White than any young QB since Pennington. He is a true leader and that is something I doubted about Zach Wilson. Red flag was he wasn't a captain in college. His teammates didn't give a shit that someone took a cheap shot at him last year. Banging his best friends mom. That speaks volumes to me. Lets ride this wave and enjoy whatever happens.

Interesting stat, Mike White completed more passes to different players (10) than Zach Wilson completed passes (9) in total last week. That’s just absolutely insane! I hope White can keep this going also. Like I stated in the game day post, I won’t give a full opinion on White until after these next two games. So we’ll see where this goes! I’m hopeful but still very cautious at this point!

As for Darnold, he still plays too scared and cautious for me. Yet still erratic at the same time. Plus you can see it in his eyes he’s just not that confident in himself. He doesn’t appear to have that eye of the tiger in him. Like he still seeing ghost or something. Zach seems to have that eye of the tiger look in his eyes but I don’t know why. Guess he’s over confident in himself and that’s apart of his downfall!

Very interesting stat I read up on:

Amongst the 52 QBs who were pressured on at least 20 dropbacks last season, White had the sixth-best completion percentage at 56.1%. I probably don’t need to tell you who was ranked 52nd out of 52 with a completion percentage of 29.3% (if you couldn’t guess, it was Zach Wilson).

Perfectly said! Seems like Zach has all the talent and potential in the world but he does not have the basics/instincts QB feel for the game down. The basic feel or instincts for the game which allows you to use the basics always. However; Zach seems to get rattled by pressure in the pocket and instantly wants to flee back 15 yards and run around like this is back yard football.

That basic feel or instinct for the game that allows him for the most part to move up in the pocket and make that pass or 2-3 steps to the left or right and make that pass. That’s something that can’t be taught. You just have to have a feel for that naturally. To be able to see the pressure coming without truly seeing it but keep your eyes down field to still make that pass.

Zach has a real issue with that, Mike White seems to do pretty well with it. Let’s see where this goes!

You and a ton of other folks. I think that if given a fair chance, Mike White can do for the Jets what that kid Heinickie is doing for the Washington Commanders and probably do it just a little better. .

I’m happy for having White as backup. After 4 years he has learned to do the easy plays. Zach doesn’t get 4 years but 21 games and team and fans crapping all over him. I’d like to see Raiders get Zach ! Come on Jets trade Zach to Raiders!!

You can see why I didn’t want Zach to start until this year hoping Jets had O Line fixed and vet WR. Zach can’t play here for Jets. It’s unfair how team and fans treated him. Even if he stays once contract up I wouldn’t sign with Jets no matter what and go elsewhere to be a top QB in NFL like Raiders or Pats. All because we don’t know how to draft QBs and if we do a high risk QB we crap on him
