The Jets fan QB pendulum

This is an inexact theory, as I have done no true scientific research. However, I have noticed a trend in many Jets fans that there are bypassing double helixes (is that the plural of helix?) about QBs. It seems a good portion of the fan base fall into one of two groups, based entirely on alternating trends.

If you like the current QB, you can't like the next one, and vice versa. Zach fans largely cannot support White, and White fans cannot support Zach. Again, not universal, but a trend. Similarly Darnold fans did not support Zach, but Zach's biggest core of fans came from Darnold haters. I feel this goes back as far as Sanchez. It's as if large segments of the fan base cannot like two consecutive QBs.

Why is this? Is it hubris? Is this about being right about a QB rather than supporting the team? I don't know, but it's a trend I have noticed with this fan base for more than a decade.

The human element I guess plays a part in the divide. We tend to glorify the player when the stats are in his favor and want to yank release or bury (no pun intended) when their play is poor. The same can be considered for coaches, GM's and owners. Typical behavior for all teams but especially NY teams. For example, I don't hate other NY teams, unless they're playing my favorites that week. I was raised in Brooklyn. So my teams were the Jets, Mets, Knicks and Rangers because they were geographically closer to attend. Plus I worked at the Garden as a teen. That's the only reason.

My teams are Jets, Yankees, Rangers and Knicks. I chose the Yankees over the Mets because I didn’t want to go through therapy for years and years . Needed at least one winner . Funny thing was the Yanks started losing and when baseball went on that strike back then, I kinda lost interest in baseball.

I am a Mets/Jets/Rangers fan, and have as such seen two titles in my 48 years on this planet.

Though he is a bit more pick-prone than Chad was. So that may even out.
perhaps.. seems white is still getting a lot of mileage out of the 4 pick game vs buffalo..

even this week some pundits are commenting on the 2 picks with zero context.. the 1st INT was essentially a drop & the other was giving your guys a chance & letting it fly..

Based on this theory I guess that means I'm just a grumpy old fart that's hard to please because I have been critical of all of our recent QBs. I guess that means when they put in a starter at that position that I can't find anything to criticize him for we will have finally found our franchise QB. I am so looking forward to that. ;)

HA! The grumpy, perpetually dissatisfied Jets fan. How well we know you.

I consider myself to be in a third category:

Support whoever’s out there trying to win Jets games. But also not throwing Wilson in the garbage can because he’s only 23 and can still be a good QB if we exercise a little patience.

Go Mike White and Zach Wilson.

Definitely not throwing Wilson away. There is still talent there. But there needs to be some major maturing, both on and off the field.

That’s a lot of big words in that post. I’m confused?

for me, every time a Jet Qb steps behind center, I hope the officials let him play under the Brady rules so he can be great. I don’t hate any of them, but when they stink I let it be known. Hopefully someday one of them, I don’t care who, can camp in the pocket for the next 30 years and win some rings

This wouldn’t be me but I get it. I was a die hard Darnold fan and wanted them to draft him. I gave up on him pretty much at the end of the 2nd season. As far as Zach is concerned, I wanted nothing to do with him but not because of Darnold. It was because I didn’t know anything about him and didn’t think he was worth the 2nd overall pick. I wanted Justin Fields. He was ALOT more proven with all the talent and potential in the world. Seemed like a no brainer to me!!!

Being that they drafted Zach anyway, I supported Zach and the new regime after because I figured why not! Plus I did see true talent and potential in him. So I stuck with him through thick and thin up until that second Patriots game. Especially the post game press conference! Now I’m pretty much done with him and hoping MFW is our guy. If MW isn’t and Zach gets back on the field, I will be as hard on him as it gets. Until he shows me otherwise which I have no confidence that he will at this point!
