Two-way street. The Jets can offer the money, but the players have to take it.
It doesn't help that the media perpetuate the LOLJets, SOJ, and Circus motifs every chance they get, even with new administrations. Any new signing knows they will be the victim of media character assassinations the moment they become Jets.
Thank goodness Revis doesn't care about that stuff, or we could get completely shutout, but with Revis only one thing matters ... show me the money.
That helps. I do worry that the front office, as directed by Woody, are putting all their eggs in the Revis basket, in part to offset the negative press they got over last year's Revis signing.

Well according to the tweets the Jets FA search is on pause pending the outcome of the Revis drama. Tune in tomorrow at 4pm DST.

well except for the whole free agency hasn't technically started and unless you are sure we will exit FA with the equivalent of dmitri paterson, then i think you are being a bit hyperbolic in your panic.
we can't force players to sign here. other teams have money, players have options, and i hate to tell you, but the jets aren't the most attractive option.
i guess one thing we got from this newly merged board is a new collection of sky-is-falling posts.

, but I was universally panned for saying last week that we should sign Suh and create a super unit on the D-line, and get some real bang for the money we are mandated to spend, and again universally panned yesterday when I said we should do the same thing with Julius Thomas and create a super unit at the skill positions, and get some real bang for our free agent loot. Then I predicted that in three days guys will be wishing to God we had spent this money on Julius Thomas.

Well it hasn't technically started but that's hardly the point. Free agents are flying off the board and the corners remaining, except Revis, are hardly overwhelming. Now Johnson has made it clear he wants Revis back but he shouldn't be making those calls. He's looking at it from a marketing perspective not a football perspective.
Meanwhile Jackson, Maxwell, Flowers and McCourty are all off the board. Who cares that most signed with their original teams??? Free agency levels that playing field. That's why they are called FREE agents.
You're right, the Jets are not an easy sell. But if youre going to blame the media then that's just silly. Other teams succeed in New York (see New York Giants). The problem is with the owner and his meddling ways.
As for the new sky is falling posters, well they're offset by the lets show patience mindset in the fast paced world of free agency. I remember lots of posters ridiculing the impatient and critical fans of Mr. Idzik exactly one year ago.
