Corey Davis retires from NFL

So with Rodgers in the mix now, what are we going to do with Davis? I thought he was going to be a cap casualty, but seems like they got creative with Rodgers contract and converted a roster bonus to a signing bonus and freed up $40M+ in cap space.

Do we really keep him on the roster? I was hoping his dropsies were a thing of the past :ROFLMAO:

It’ll be interesting to see how much better the WR/TE groups are with AR at QB. Although it will be tough to get the playing time, I am hoping Mims finally gets a chance to reach potential. May be a pipe dream, but the kid deserves a break after a tough 3 seasons. JMHO.

I was hoping Davis was part of the trade too. Would love to see Mims get a chance and play up to potential, but we need to get rid of Davis for that to happen.

Obviously he is staying this season (and there is a lot of talk of him being WR #2). What is confusing to me is, JD hasn't restructured his contract yet. We still have needs at Oline & LB, and I was expecting Davis to be cut.

Seems like he would be a good rework to free up some cash.

From ESPN

“7. Tough cuts: Paring the roster from 90 to 53 will be a difficult chore, especially at running back, wide receiver and defensive line. One intriguing player is Corey Davis, who has missed several practices with an illness and personal leave. When he does practice, he doesn't stand out as one of the top receivers. The coaches value his experience and unselfish approach, but the NFL is a business and his $10.5 million salary (non-guaranteed) is a lot for a backup.”

WOW, he probably wouldn’t have been to productive for the Jets anyway but this a surprise! Wish him well in his next journey.

Does this mean his contract is void and the money is available to go after any tackles that may shake free next week?

Well that leaves the door wide open for some of these young WR's and Cobb is going to play a much larger role than previously thought.

So the contract situation doesn't look favorable

"Any money a team pays a player must be accounted for against the salary cap. If there is dead money in a player's contract and he is released or retires, that charge will accelerate onto the team's salary cap for the current year."
