Between the WR’s already in house, our talented TE room and our pass catching backs, IMO we do not need to add anything. Davis’s experience and leadership is a loss but between Cobb and Rogers I think that can be compensated for.
Good luck Cory. Thanks for everything. Congrats on your great career and the beginning of the next stage of your life. 🙏
Barring injury to one of our WRs, we're fine. Being all in though, better to have the experienced vet and the kids for emergency.

This is not a surprise. You hadn't heard much about Davis, on the Field anyway.
I thought they were going to release Him with Final Cuts anyway. Good luck Corey. I hope you find what you're looking for

I’ve been saying it since pre-draft, we should have drafted Jaxon Smith-Njigba! Our WR spots would be set for the next decade and Davis retirement would be an afterthought

Honestly, I didn't like the guy for a first round pick. I forget why though. Were you adamant about drafting a WR in the first? Or did you just like JSN?

After watching some of the Press conferences of Saleh and some players. I cant help but feel Davis is going through something serious. All saying there hearts are with him and his family, that he always has a home and family in the organization, players saying they are going to go visit and spend time with him. Sounds like more than retirement. Hope I am wrong.... prayers for him and his family....🙏

Corey has been dealing with a battle of depression since his brother died (2020). He just can not get his mind right to play football anymore, reason why he was off last 2 seasons. Think the reason the last two seasons his catch stats have been less than stellar. (both in the 30s)

Going to say this we have a solid core of receivers and this latest news opens the door for Brownlee to make the roster.

Garrett Wilson
Allan Lazard
Mecole Hardman
Crippled Cobb
Irvin Charles
Jason Brownlee

Should be the 6 Wide-outs this year unless one of the other makes a huge splash against the G Men. Gipson is that person but believe both Charles and Brownlee lead the way to make the active 53.

Wasn't adamant on a WR, but felt JSN at 15 would have been a steal. I was high on JSN, not on just WR

Our agree, our WR room is solid and with Lazard and Hardman, I think we are really solid (we have several very good TE's to boot).

My push for JSN was to create the 1/1a scenario on offense which would make it foolish for defense to cheat and double. We really haven't had a solid pair of WR's since Marshall & Decker, and before that Coles & Moss (which was short lived) and Keyshawn & Chrebet.

At this point, I wish they didn't trade Moore (he was a 1a but a solid 2). We just don't seem to ever value the position and we're always good with going with second round or lower crap shoot and roll the dice!

Periodically there are great receivers available in the first round, and the Jets just never show any interest. We hit a home run with Garrett last year, but he was pick 2 of 3 in the first round. So again "wasn't the priority, but since we had the picks, hey why not".

@hatnlvr I hate to disagree with you BUT Lazard was Aaron Rodgers number 1 target in Green Bay and his emergency outlet in his twilight years was Cobb both on the roster. Add in offensive rookie of the year, AR has 3 dominate receivers to rely on. Can we be inline to trade for a wide out, yes but with both Charles and Brownlee they both will show that they are worth paying mind too.

Why did I leave out Hardman is bc he is that screen and end reverse hand offs to keep the defense honest. What people don't realize Mecole can run all the short routes with precision something that Cobb was known for.

There are 11 receivers at the college level that in house scouts have been told to oversee this year. As for the list I only have 3:

Marvin Harrison Jr. Ohio State (NFL Bloodlines)
Moose Muhammed Texas A&M (NFL Bloodlines)
Antwane "Juice" Wells Jr. South Carolina

Believe these 3 are in the top 8 of next year's class. Which makes it legit to seek after this season now with Davis, likely Cobb both out and off the books. Wilson becomes stable force with Lazard then we can figure out if Charles or Brownlee are a part of the future but will be in need of new blood.

Lazard as the #1 option last year finish with under 800 yards (788) in 15 games. The rumblings out of GB last year was they didn't have talent at WR, so even though I feel he is interchangeable with David, he is a 2nd/3rd option (which works fine on this roster with Wilson being the clear #1).

But that being said, we don't have a 1/1a. We have a clear cut #1 and a few other solid options.

If these guys will be in the first round and at the top of the draft, you can already scratch them off of the Jets list. This was kinda my point, that the position has just never been a priority in the organization.

I agree with you on Cobb as well. He already acknowledged that he was contemplating retirement before signing with the Jets. So he may be one and done.

Lazard is dealing with an AC sprain and is at best a 3rd option WR if that. Cobb is a shell of his former self. Brown Lee is a roster bubble WR. Same as Charles .This team is a legit Super Bowl contender this year. I have to disagree with you. Douglas should add a proven quality WR to the roster. There are options available. Cards are going into tank mode. Throw the second or third pick for Hollywood Brown. Just 1 example.

IMO if we are trading away any of our draft capital it needs to be on the O-line. Aaron with time to stand back there will make any WR group look good and we already have a very good group even without Davis.

Lazard maybe your option as 3rd best on the team, but to Aaron Rodgers it is his mid to deep outlet is one of his go to guys. Garrett Wilson is known from last year to climb the ladder at every level add in Mecole Hardman's underneath routes, and after burners after the catch those three give Rodgers three solid options. For anyone who thinks we are passing the ball more because Aaron is here is clueless. You do not draft Breece Hall yes coming off his injury and sign someone like Dalvin Cook to pair with Mike Carter to pass the ball...

Rodgers and Brownlee (one name) have been working well together. The coaches have nothing but good things to say about Charles and Brownlee, now if either or make the roster they will have a quarterback that knows how to throw them open, how to coach them on the field and work with them on the sidelines to make sure they understand what they are suppose to be doing. Not to mention having a veteran in Randall Cobb to help them understand what Aaron Rodgers expects from them.

Make no mistake we have the ultimate receiving tight end in veteran CJ Uzomah which should alleviate the stress of what everyone thinks is a limited core group of receivers.

Alex Erickson a 7 year pro is also on the roster right now but have not heard anything about his importance this camp and if he has made any splash or definitive plays to open the door for him making the active 53.

Like I said the team has reached out to several teams about some potential low end moves but nothing substantial to this point. There has been no news about Davante Adams outside the media trying to stir the pot.

These are low end options the team could kick the can for:

Anthony Schwartz, Browns
Greg Ward, Eagles
Hunter Renfrow, Raiders
Mike Evans, Buccaneers
Michael Gallup, Cowboys

And I again do not believe even though we have the cap space for a Davante Adams contract, the trade would be expensive because the Raiders would want to redeem all those draft picks they gave to Green Bay for him. Same goes for any 1a type receiver out on the market which there has been some noise about players like Van Jefferson, Rams and Jerry Jeudy, Broncos.

Believe the Broncos want a 2nd round pick for Jerry Jeudy? This might be the move that would solve most qualms from some arm chaired quarterbacks to bolster the receiving room. Being Jeudy's contract is hefty maybe JD can swing it to be a 3rd and a player like a Bryce Hall or even Carl Lawson (entering into his contract year). Only reason Lawson would be in play is because if the coaches have faith in JFM, Jermaine Johnson, Bryce Huff and rookie Will McDonald IV to be more than enough to carry the load from the EDGE DE role. Add in Clemons who plays more inside but can play at DE as well.
