Is it at all possible that Geno Smith has developed this year to being a real QB this year?

Question : could you trade him, Hell no...If we released him today ,would any team pick him up
Flat at no, maybe practice squad
Just because he wears a geen and white jersey some jet fans continue to hope for some sort of reclamation project
Forget it, ain't happening
I'm tired of throwin away seasons, this is the new NFL where teams go from last to first in a year
Bye bye Geno

i'm not necessarily on the geno bandwagon, but absolutely, if geno were released today, someone else would sign him. heck, philly just brought in tim tebow for a look. i'd bet chip kelly would snatch geno in a second if he were a free agent.

Fans can be so delusional sometimes. We always blame the coaches for players not developing. Rex was a bad coach, the Jets QB coach was terrible, etc. It's the Stephen Hill syndrome. He had all the tools but our coaches were just lousy. He would be great if he was drafted by another team. We can't cut him it will come back to haunt us...

BS, where is Stephen Hill now? Rotting on some teams practice squad last I heard. Coaches aren't magicians and usually when a player stinks it's the players fault. Stop blaming the coaches. They are professionals. They weren't hired for no reason. They tend to know what they are doing...

I hear you but we'll just agree to disagree here because there are lots of examples going the other way where a player goes to another team or gets a new regime to deal with and they blossom. Players like Brett Farve, Drew Breez, Mark Brunell and both the WRs he threw the ball to. Forsett was a journeymen RB for years but blow up with the Ravens last year. Hopefully it never takes Geno or any Jets player 7-8 years before they show some worth. Hell, Vinny Testervarde blow up with the Jets when he played under Parcells. Before that, he was a turn over machine no one appears to want to deal with.

There are more examples obviously but these are a few to counter your argument. Now I will admit, I am not a Geno homer or rooting for him to be our QB. I'm ready to move on from Geno myself but he was with garbage coaches and under garbage management and played with garbage offensive players. For two straight years and can't no one argue this fact. It appears were stuck with him for one more year anyway so why can't he drastically improve this year? I'm not saying all-pro numbers but numbers where he is holding his own and showing everyone he can be our QB. Geno showed flashes over the past two years of being a very good QB, why can't he become more consistent now with a much better team and MUCH BETTER COACHING and MANAGEMENT?

And even Blaine Gabbert was re-signed. I'm sure a lot of posters here can't imagine worse than Geno, but it's possible. And it seems like decades ago when he finished his rookie season as 8-8. A lot has happened since then.

Rex bad, Idzik bad, GeNOT screwed.
People tend to forget that OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR Mike Mornhinweg coordinated a pair of consecutive NFCC games & a Super Bowl, another NFCC game, and a (6-6) record in 6 playoff seasons of the 10 years he was in Philly, (only 2 losing seasons), before coming to the Jets.
GeNOT was NOT screwed on the coaching end, he got some of the best available.
Mornhinweg was NOT Brian Shitteninhispants.
Brian Shottenheimer stunk in NJ, he still stunk in St. Louis and finally got hisself demoted to NCAA ball OC/QB coach at Georgia this season.
How much you wanna bet he stinks there too?

Geno would be picked up in a day..with multiple options... not saying he is good..but to think if the jets cut him and no one would pick him up is stupid

But alas hes definitely here one more year....

Did Elway and Brees regress from mediocre to embarrassingly awful in their second season?

Were Elway and Brees able to remember the playbook, figure out timezones, find secondary receivers, step up in the pocket and throw the ball away to avoid big losses.....five things our bust from WVU has no clue how to do?

Unless I'm missing something here, Elway's numbers are the worst of them all and we all know how he turned out. Don't remember if there was a change of coaches or GM that helped or was that just all him learning and finding his way. Breez started out a little slow but we all see how Breez is and will turn out as well. Why can't Geno become successful if they did it? I hope its not a racial thing!

As I replied to the other poster, Elway numbers weren't lights out either and he is a HOFer now. One of the best ever. Breeze started out a little slow and he will be first ballet HOF. Don't see why Geno can't become at least a very good QB but you see it differently. I WONDER WHY!

NOTE: Guess we'll agree to disagree on this one.

Since it is clear you have decided to insult other posters by trying to play the race card against any posters who have eyes and have seen two full seasons of Smith's inadequate and awful QB play in 2013 and 2014,. let me clear things up for you...

It's not a race thing at all.

It's a STINK thing

So please stop the race inferences. They are beneath you and way beneath the quality and tone set by Elias and the other three mods here at NYJF

We are NOT white Jet fans or black Jet fans or Asian Jet fans. We are Jet fans united in wanting a winning championship football team in Green and White

Very well put and this I can go with and respect 110%. If you guys honestly feel this way as Jets fans then you will get no more arguments from me. Problem is not all Jets fans feel this way but I'll leave that alone. Anyway, I'm not a Geno homer and I'm ready to turn the page myself. Problem is, unless we somehow by some miracle from God draft Winston we may very well be stuck with Geno for another year at least.

IMOO, Winston is the only rookie who will outright beat Geno and be the game one starter. Mariota (maybe) able to but I doubt it. The rest of the rookies I don't think can either. According to all or most of the NFL pundits, experts or whatever you want to call them, they feel Winston will be the only rookie game one starter unless Mariota goes to the Eagles. If this is truly the case we are stuck with Geno because I honestly don't think Fitzgerald will beat out Geno for starter either.

Lets all remember that Geno is in his third year and shown some signs here and there of being pretty good. Has it ever crossed anyone's mind that unless we can get Winston, the new regime will want to give Geno this one last to see if he can do something because they wouldn't have faith in the other rookies (including Mariota) and Fitzgerald is just a insurance plan just incase all else fails? Maybe I'm thinking way to deep here but it is a possibility.

Just my opinion but Petty and Grayson are also both better than Smith.

Time to face the facts, close the books on Geno and move on with Fitz, mid round draft pick and Simms in 15**

**unless by some miracle the Duck falls in our lap at 6

BTW, thanks WRECKS for the two meaningless wins in December garbage time including a fake punt, that took us out of 2...MORON

LOL, we can agree on Rex killing us period but especially last year with those two dumb ass wins that amounted to nothing but hurting our draft position. Killed us with getting Winston! I see a lot of people have a lot of faith in Fitz, guess we'll see if he can beat out Geno because I just don't see it. As for the other rookies you mentioned, if a rookie other than Winston (definitely) or Mariota (maybe) can beat out Geno then great but I don't see that either.

There is a lot of animosity towards geno, and people making statements with their emotions instead of their head. There is a good chance Fitzpatrick will beat Geno, and vice versa; however, for those that remember Fitzpatrick on the Bills, He always made that 1-2 big INTs that broke their back. Even when they were playing well with gaily, he always seemed to make that back breaking play that kept them out of the play-off hunt.

My point, is Fitzpatrick had 17 TDs and 8 INTs last year...but the Texans were still only 6-6 when he got hurt; im guessing, because those mission critical INTs we saw on the Bills still happened for the Texans...or QB guru Bill O'Brien wouldn't be okay with dumping him for a 7th and going with Hoyer and Mallet. Normally, teams would be excited about a QB rated #9 with a 17-8 TD:INT ratio...the texans were not. Remember the analogy one man's trash is another's man's gold? Well, Fitzpatrick has been on the Rams, Titans, Texans, Bills, and now the Jets for a reason...he wasnt the answer there (trash) and wont be gold here.

It doesnt mean Geno will be any better, but as Jim Miller and Pat Kirwin said yesterday, if the Jets go with Fitzpatrick week 1, they already gave up on the season...there's a reason he's never been a QB of a winning team (Bills records while there, 6-10, 4-12, 6-10, 6-10)...
