Ok so I'm trying my best to "NOT" to have the Same Ole Jets mentality and overreact to every single loss with doom and gloom. To be fair for the second week in a row, we lost a game BUT and it's a huge BUT, our offense wasn't on and we still had a chance to win both games in the end. A couple of plays here and there and we are 4-1 instead of 2-3, and we are only 1 game out of the division lead with 12 more games to play.
I always expected the offense to start out slow and start to find their groove and comfort around mid-season as this a new group that has never played together. Some early success gave some false hope for a faster start, but in my opinion the offense is right where it should be at this point (we are on at times and way off at times, that should have always been expected).
The defense was getting gashed in the first half, but settled in nicely in the 2nd half (sans for the 12th man on the field, gifting Jefferson so many non-calls that even the Minnesota fans were chiming in about how the refs were bailing them out!). The problem with the defense is we still can't stop the run and now we can't rush the passer either. Will has been having a breakout season, but he is now seeing double teams and teams have adjusted to his speed. Get Reddick in and IMO that isn't going to help much, as just like Will he is a speed guy off the edge and cannot play the run, so having them both on the field will get us exposed. If JJ was still healthy it would be a perfect pairing, but with Clemons out there we are just hurting! As strong as Clemons is, he can't get to the QB, and he is just clueless in the run game (constantly finding himself out of position and over running the play).
So the same can be said for the Offense. We started slow and looked just putrid (that's on the Coaching Staff). That being said, they found a groove in the second half and made a game of it (thank you Aaron Rodgers!). Credit to the Vikings, coming into the game they were #1 in the league for AYPC, so they have a very stingy secondary and I wasn't expecting Garrett to have a breakout game yesterday with that defense. But look what happened, AaRod and Garrett found a way to get it going. No he didn't have the explosive plays, but he was getting the ball and making things happen!!!! That was HUGE! It wasn't efficient, but 13 catches for 101 yards and a TD was HUGE!
Our inability to run the football falls square on the coaching staff! They have to do a better job and scheming to get these guys running lanes, and the offense needs to nut up and impose their will on other teams!!! Running game is about mentality and will, and we're playing soft out there!! Add to that, I have ZERO faith in the CS ability to evaluate talent and use it accordingly (it's like they are playing Madden and just calling plays, with ZERO comprehension of the personnel and their abilities). Breece may call himself a beast, but since his rookie season I've been screaming at the top of my lungs that the guy is worthless in short yardage situations!! He is not a smash back, he is a HB and should be used as such. I don't care what his size says he should be able to do, the fucking guy goes down if an eyelash hits him!!!! He is only a threat in the open field, the only thing he's capable of grinding is his finger nails!!!!
Now all that said, I think we're really on pace to turn this around and start winning consistently. JD needs to go get Shaq Lawson or trade for a solid DE to pair with the speed, because that will be our Achilles if he doesn't fix it. Hackett needs to move his ass up into the sky box and stop playing buddy buddy on the sidelines with Rodgers. Time to earn your paycheck, stop asking the team to go win on talent and find ways to scheme guys open (I'm sick of watching other teams having receivers running wide open all game long, while every throw Rodgers has to make is a tight window throw). The Viking ran a ton of bunch formations and crisscrossed our defenders to death (even having blind ass Quincy run Sauce completely over and concuss him). Use some imagination already!!!
Let's go Jets!! The season is young and we definitely have the talent to get this going!
