2018 draft debacle???

So I’m sitting here thinking about the 2018 draft and wondering should that be called another Jets draft day debacle and let’s be honest here. Did the Jets screw up by drafting Sam Darnold over drafting Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson. Mainly Josh Allen? Now we can go through about 15 to 20 of the Jets draft day screw ups but let’s just stick with their latest or maybe not latest, 2018.

It’s just frustrated to me as I am looking at Josh Allen get better and better and better. From where he started to where he is now. Mainly his progression from year-3 to now, where he’s pretty much the best player in the league. I personally don’t think the Jets screwed that draft up by drafting Darnold. I mean he was the QB probably 99% of the football world thought would do great.

Darnold had the size, arm strength, played for a big time school and pretty much seemed to have it all. So IMO, the Jets did the right thing and they drafted the right guy. They just didn’t bring him up into the system the right way to make him the best quarterback he can be then and now. I mean, look at Sam Donald now. A Super-bowl champion and the best version of himself.

Which is nothing compared to what Josh Allen is, but still Darnold is an excellent quarterback and he’s been that way for the past 3-4 years I’d say. So what’s everybody’s opinion here, did the Jets screw the 2018 draft up? We’re not talking about the obvious screw ups like the 1983 draft when they clearly should have drafted Dan Marino over Ken O’Brien. That was blatant!

Unfortunately, I can’t argue that statement AT ALL! Hopefully this time they will do the right thing by Klubnik or whomever they draft in 27. From this point on really.

For me the bigger problem was that the team was not in a position to draft a franchise QB. There were too many questions on offense to consider plugging in a rookie QB and expecting him to succeed.

Would they have had more success drafting Allen over Darnold? Yes. But Allen wouldn't be the Allen that he's become if he was put in that situation, and Darnold would have blossomed earlier if he had been put in the right situation.

I just watched the game, have had a rough week so Im way behind .
I know it's a tough loss but I think most are really over reacting. The group who wants glen fired are being things in a very interesting light. It's human nature to see things in a way to support your narrative though. Same with Geno.
Glen coached a good game today. So did Reich, and Geno was stellar. If Klubnik played the Jets would have lost by over 40 it's. Having a DB slip and a WR wide open is not on the play caller. Having Braleon Allen completely miss his assignment leading to a free rusher getting the strip sack on the final play for the Jets isn't on Reich, nor Geno.
The O line is bad, geno was pressured on nearly every play. The tackles have been poor as have C and RG in all 3 games. Unfortunately the only player who has been a plus Parham went out injured. This team is missing key players and is in every game until the final seconds. Last year the would have lost to the Titans and been embarrassed in the last 2. They have improved tremendously. Go back and look at the Bills and lions before they became playoff teams both lost regularly by 1 possession. Remember that you guys wanting firings, Geno out ,all predicted blowout losses for the past 3 games...
Bad news is Parham is likely to be out a while with the knee injury. Hall is also likely to miss some time. He said he felt something in his leg prior to the tackle then felt something else happen in his leg after the hit.
Wilson reportedly passed concussion evaluation in the tent so hopefully he will be able to play next week.
This team is definitely trending in the right direction. Hopefully they get some players back healthy and can continue going toe to toe with the better teams as they have the last 2 weeks and beat some of the others.
If things change and the team isn't prepared to play, quits, etc I'll be calling for Glenn's head and Mougeys too. He left us paper thin at WR, O Line depth, QB ,CB and 3 of the 4 have bit him on the ass . If Geno goes down, the season is over...

Drafting Darnold was a mistake. He was way overhyped based on his first year at USC and his second season was completely overlooked. Even his pro day workout was a joke. He was not impressive throwing scripted passes vs air and his final few passes in the rain were terrible. Over throws, under throws and 3 out of bounds but the reports were He dazzled... His mechanics sucked.
Over the past 4 years he was a backup for 2, had a very good early regular season for the Vikings but was shakey down the stretch and bad in the playoffs.
Last year he was good, not very good but a sufficient game manager. This season is young but he missed most of game one, all of game 2 and threw the game losing pick 6 with an earlier pick costing game 3.
It took him 7 years to finally become a good QB and that was because Shanahan told him if he wanted to stay in the league, he had to fix his mechanics when releasing him. That was his biggest flaw and he refused to change it.
Jackson was probably the best passes in the draft but he ran so much in college that he was knocked as a diminutive RB. Allen worked on his throwing motion immediately and his accuracy improved every season until he became a great QB. Darnold should have sat but it would not have helped. He refused to change his mechanics and if you remember, his private QB coach even said he would not change anything. Jets even hired him to work with Darnold.
Passing on Jackson and Allen were costly mistakes. So was passing on Mahomes.
Not Monday morning QBing, I was adamant that Jackson was 1, Allen 2. Same with Mahomes, I was just as adamant that he was the pick,long before the pre draft hype began.

I am, as well. We should have a top 10 line, and they have played subpar in 2 of their 3 games. That needs to change, especially if the plan is to bring a young QB into this situation for next year.

The thing is, they are just now playing in close games. They have been getting blown out in games like the past 2 for years. Almost every one of today's top teams went through this before becoming playoff teams. Besides the bills and Lions, the Rams, KC,Seattle, Denver....
The Jets are finally building a quality roster. Unfortunately everything this happens, Woody goes hands on and makes stupid signings and when they ultimately fail, he fires everyone. Then it takes a couple of seasons to get the salary cap under control, and to start building up the roster and then he does it all again.
This regime has gotten the cap cleared, and put together a competitive roster in a year. Positioning the draft and salary cap in the most positive position this franchise has had in decades. 3-0 would be ideal but the vast improvement can't be denied.
Remember 3 weeks ago this team had zero expectations, they were supposed to be 0-3 right now, with 3 massive blowout losses by now. Salads revenge game, 40 plus point losses the past 2.... The are trending in the right direction. Hopefully the injuries stop piling up ,that's what will derail the improvement.

Better to keep the playoff drought going! This fan base would complain about a Super Bowl win. Fire everyone, we needed a last second Field Goal to win... Should have won by at least 2 TDs......
Now our draft pick is basically the first second round pick, just a day later!

Typical you can’t make people happy, not matter what you do and for fans (fanatics), it’s even worse. That includes me! So yeah, we probably would be in an uproar not realizing what we really have. The grass ain’t always greener!
